We popped into Candy Baron while waiting for our table at the restaurant across the street, and it ended up being a lot of fun. The second you walk in, it feels like candy heaven. They have such a huge selection of sweets, including plenty of nostalgic favorites. My friends and I had a great time looking around and laughing at all the different candy we hadn't seen in years. Even if you don't buy much, it's a fun place to browse. If you have kids, they'll absolutely love it. It's definitely worth stopping in if you're walking around downtown Laguna Beach. read more

Came into Candy Baron this week to get some taffy hubby has been craving. We were kids at a candy store! Grabbed a basket and started picking out taffy flavors that sounded appealing. Paid at the register and then through the taffy sections again to make sure we had gotten everything we wanted to try and paid for additional taffies we had missed the first time. I don't know if the cashier is the same one others have mentioned but I can see what is meant and agree she could be friendlier. Taffy candy is quite yummy. read more

I love candy, it's my weakness, my kryptonite especially gummy bears they have barrels and barrels full of candy but they're all sealed so you can't have any samples like in the olden days. They have every type of nostalgic candy as well. It's so much fun to come in here and take pictures and hover and then you can buy as much as you want! It's pretty reasonably priced for Laguna read more

Wonderful selection of candy within a stones throw of Laguna beach. Really appreciate the beach themed ambiance as well as the friendliness of the staff and the vast collection. It felt like a place that you can get lost in and the amount of both mainstream and unique candy that they had was very large. The wine barrels were a very nice touch as well as a Laguna Beach sign hanging from the ceiling that provides the perfect photo op for residents and tourists alike read more

Such a fun store from nostalgic candy from your childhood to the most popular candies of today. Definitely an eye full of sweets in barrels at every turn. Soda pops of unique candy flavors also available in the cooler. Best perk are the sugar free candies, if you dare breaking your diet. Pickle lovers you must try the pickle flavored sour belts. Grab a basket and follow the path carved out for you on both sides of the store and just enjoy your journey. read more

Outrageously wonderful! Take a step into time test when candy was a penny and a great variety of old-time candies! They have enlarged it to include the store next-door that moved out and there's even a larger variety of goodies and it makes a great gift basket to give her friend a walk down memory lane! Highly recommend! read more

My daughter loves to come here if we are in the OC area. It's a store full of candy of a million different kinds. How can you go wrong? After sawdust festival, we came through the town and I let her have the time to go through the candy store to take home some candy. The candy is always something she can't find elsewhere, but also the prices are a bit high for candy. It's a good thing we don't live near there. It's a treat to come here and will be back the next time we are in Laguna. read more

So this family owned Candy store has been a staple of Laguna Beach for over 33 years ! Almost 100 different flavors of taffy, and all your old-fashioned favorites: Pez dispensers, Gummy bacon candy from Oscar Meyer, it's just a fun place to look at and go in! read more

I thought this was a really cute shop. I feel it had what most candy stores strive for: novelty candies and the basics if you're looking for average every day sweets. I liked the variety and I found the customer service to be good. As I see the other reviews to be a year to nine months ago where there may have been a change to service or rudeness I did not experience that. I actually had my hands full and the owner or woman behind the counter today gave me a basket. Of course my rule to myself was "my hands are full so I can't buy more" but she changed that! Haha I got my son a bunch of silly candies that may have been over priced but that's what I kind of expect going into these kinds of places. It felt clean and the candies I bought have tasted fine. I would come again next time I am in the area. read more

Good Candy/ chocolate selection. Prices not always listed. there are some imported products that are similar with products from regular store. For instance pizza gummies and kinder for $9.99-$19.99. I was not aware that the prices were so high. I don't know how the price got calculated. He counted It very quickly, dumped everything to the scale and no breakdown off candies prices and told me the price was $96. Received was not given either. I just paid n left with no intention of coming back next time, at least the kids were happy read more

The customer service was awful. I'm never coming back here. I couldn't believe it. Never coming back. read more

Many options for retro candy. Friendly service with helpful personnel. I also like the location.

owners are super rude. ruins the entire vibe. They have a no ice cream rule which a lot of places have. No problem. I didn't see their sign that said that so i went in and the owners saw my ice cream and got super mad and you'd think I brought in a gun the way they acted. Ridiculous. All they had to say was "i'm sorry but we don't allow ice cream in the store if you'd like to eat outside then come in that'd be great." Instead they were just plain mean and over the top about it. I just wanted ice cream man. read more

Great concept but beware of old candy. Stopped by about a month ago and bought 4 rolls of Regal Crown candy. I didn't realize that they had expiration dates. One was expired, another one was close to expiring. However, all four were old. The paper was stuck to the candy and if I could pull it off the candy was gummy. I would have returned them but I live too far away read more

While walking through the touristy part of Laguna Beach, I walked past the Candy Baron. shop. The door was open. The rows of wooden barrels topped with colorful taffy, visible from the open front door, stopped me in my tracks and lured me in. The taffy choices were plentiful. Check the prices before loading up, $ it will add up quickly. They have tiny baskets. We loaded up and savored our treats lasting over 5 days. Not one hard one in the bunch. The only notable thing was the taffy was a bit sticky to the paper. The place was packed with candy. Novelty. Old fashion. European. Asian. Taffy. Sure the prices are at a premium, it's a touristy shop. The shop keeper was polite, courteous, and kept to himself. read more

It's filled to the brim with candy and sweets! I found a whole bunch that I absolutely loved when I came here with my friends. The people at the register were nice and patient, even let me make some changes to what candies I wanted to buy. The vibe was super chill as well with people just hanging out. The reason I'm not gonna give a 5-star review though is the prices. It can get pretty expensive based on what you're trying to buy so always make sure to carry at least $20-30 if you want to buy something from here. read more

Nostalgia can only carry you so far. The store is old and has that old tone candy store feel with barrels of taffy and other assorted sweets. There are imported candies, novelties, and a lot that will take you straight back to childhood. That's where the positive aspects of this place end. Every piece of candy we purchased was stale. The fact that the circus peanuts (those fluffy marshmallow candies shaped like big orange peanuts) were ROCK HARD and a dark orange, should have been our cue to not buy anything. We went with licorice, chocolate covered honeycomb, and nonpareil. I dug to find a bag of honeycomb that had chocolate that didn't already have a white dusting on it (you know the kind chocolate gets if it's too old, left out, etc). The licorice nearly removed a crown. The honeycomb is inedible....not sure we are gonna risk trying the nonpareil. Such a shame. Save your money. Support another small candy shop. read more

The guy managing the store during December last year was so kind. He was gracious with letting us sample a few candies we were inquiring about, and we ended up purchasing a few containers as gifts. Def worth checking out - it's a cute stop to make while in Laguna. It's brings back nostalgic memories and there's cool finds here. It's just gonna cost you an arm and leg...maybe a kidney. read more

I tried to support local but the cashier was very rude and unpleasant.. on top of that, all the candy was stale. Do not recommend.

Candy Baron has been around for years, waayyyy before Yelp. Once one of the best for sweet candylovers, the day has come when I report the Baron has gone. Old candy with desperation kickin' in. The assortment is massive. I got a bag of taffy built from total excitement, all kinds of interesting flavors. It was a little pricey, but some things I don't really care and will pay premium for. Alas, some of the taffy was fairly fresh, others were very hard. Why? How do you possibly keep full containers without mixing fresh bags into the already existing? Nope. I won't be fooled twice, not even for candy. read more

If you have a sweet tooth you have to stop in here and give this place a try. This was one of the stops on our Flavors of Laguna tour. Candy candy everywhere. They have rows and rows of all kinds of candy including vintage types. If you want to go back to the sweet days of your childhood, come here. No pun intended :-) The hardest part is deciding which ones to get. I have never seen so many different flavors of saltwater taffy. Barrel after barrel. They even have maple bacon which was actually good but not my favorite. I seem to always lean towards the chocolate ones. They also have more flavors of licorice than any place I had seen. The place was crowded and it would be nice if the store was a little bigger. Perhaps they have too much in such a small space. I felt like everywhere you turned, you were bumping into someone. I also would like to see the cashiers handling the candy to wear gloves. You pay per pound and it is a bit pricey, however, sometimes you just need to treat yourself or someone you love. read more

sad because i came here for years as a kid but customer service is beyond bad at this point-- go to 711 for candy

I grew up in Laguna Beach, and I remember when Candy Baron was new. As a kid, I thought it was absolutely the coolest store that had ever been conceived. Almost 30 years later, it's awesome to see that Candy Baron is still there! Truly remarkable offering of both bulk candy, and a wide variety of wrapped, branded candy as well. We were the only people there, maybe because it was the middle of the week during the corona virus hoax, I mean very real pandemic, but hopefully their business is doing ok. Fun little stop on a date night (which is what we did before dinner), there are some excellent restaurants on the same block. Come here for some awesome candy! read more

Omg so I have come here my whole life. I should have known something was off based on the fact that when I walked in the cashier was totally on the phone and ignored all the customers. Today I wanted to buy some taffy but I only had card and the cashier demanded cash. I understand that at least- card isn't great for businesses. When my boyfriend said he could pay with $100 bill the cashier said with an awful tone "come on guys are you kidding me?!" and proceeded to dismiss us. I told the man I would be reporting the business for this awful behavior. What a terrible worker. They should be ashamed. This guy actually has anger problems and should not be working in a place that families and kids go to frequently. read more
