I liked the variety and I found the customer service to be good. As I see the other reviews to be a year to nine months ago where there may have been a change to service or rudeness I did not experience that. I actually had my hands full and the owner or woman behind the counter today gave me a basket. Of course my rule to myself was "my hands are full so I can't buy more" but she changed that! Haha I got my son a bunch of silly candies that may have been over priced but that's what I kind of expect going into these kinds of places. It felt clean and the candies I bought have tasted fine. I didn't see their sign that said that so i went in and the owners saw my ice cream and got super mad and you'd think I brought in a gun the way they acted. Ridiculous. Great concept but beware of old candy. Stopped by about a month ago and bought 4 rolls of Regal Crown candy. I didn't realize that they had expiration dates. One was expired, another one was close to expiring. However, all four were old. The paper was stuck to the candy and if I could pull it off the candy was gummy. The people at the register were nice and patient, even let me make some changes to what candies I wanted to buy. The vibe was super chill as well with people just hanging out. Nostalgia can only carry you so far. The store is old and has that old tone candy store feel with barrels of taffy and other assorted sweets. There are imported candies, novelties, and a lot that will take you straight back to childhood. That's where the positive aspects of this place end. Every piece of candy we purchased was stale. The fact that the circus peanuts (those fluffy marshmallow candies shaped like big orange peanuts) were ROCK HARD and a dark orange, should have been our cue to not buy anything. We went with licorice, chocolate covered honeycomb, and nonpareil. I dug to find a bag of honeycomb that had chocolate that didn't already have a white dusting on it (you know the kind chocolate gets if it's too old, left out, etc). The licorice nearly removed a crown. The honeycomb is inedible....not sure we are gonna risk trying the nonpareil. Such a shame. Save your money. Support another small candy shop. read more

Candy Baron has been around for years, waayyyy before Yelp. Once one of the best for sweet candylovers, the day has come when I report the Baron has gone. Old candy with desperation kickin' in. The assortment is massive. I got a bag of taffy built from total excitement, all kinds of interesting flavors. It was a little pricey, but some things I don't really care and will pay premium for. Alas, some of the taffy was fairly fresh, others were very hard. Why? How do you possibly keep full containers without mixing fresh bags into the already existing? Nope. They have rows and rows of all kinds of candy including vintage types. If you want to go back to the sweet days of your childhood, come here. No pun intended :-) The hardest part is deciding which ones to get. I have never seen so many different flavors of saltwater taffy. Barrel after barrel. They even have maple bacon which was actually good but not my favorite. I seem to always lean towards the chocolate ones. They also have more flavors of licorice than any place I had seen. The place was crowded and it would be nice if the store was a little bigger. Perhaps they have too much in such a small space. I felt like everywhere you turned, you were bumping into someone. I grew up in Laguna Beach, and I remember when Candy Baron was new. As a kid, I thought it was absolutely the coolest store that had ever been conceived. Almost 30 years later, it's awesome to see that Candy Baron is still there! Truly remarkable offering of both bulk candy, and a wide variety of wrapped, branded candy as well. We were the only people there, maybe because it was the middle of the week during the corona virus hoax, I mean very real pandemic, but hopefully their business is doing ok. Fun little stop on a date night (which is what we did before dinner), there are some excellent restaurants on the same block. Come here for some awesome candy! read more

Omg so I have come here my whole life. I should have known something was off based on the fact that when I walked in the cashier was totally on the phone and ignored all the customers. Today I wanted to buy some taffy but I only had card and the cashier demanded cash. I understand that at least- card isn't great for businesses. When my boyfriend said he could pay with $100 bill the cashier said with an awful tone "come on guys are you kidding me?!" and proceeded to dismiss us. The men in the store were very nice and parking was easy to find because we went during the week. Sadly, almost all of the taffy we purchased was stuck to the wrapper making it impossible to eat.
