I first brought my Audi for a service to him because the dealer was about to charge me an arm and a leg for a routine, simple service. They were trying to get me to schedule it with them by saying they were the only ones that could reset the computer. I went on Yelp and looked for an auto shop near me and saw the glowing reviews...and I'm here to add another one! Gary was not only able to do the service the car needed, but also had the tools to reset the computer in the car. I had worked an overnight shift and he was even so thoughtful to let me sleep through the day and call me later in the afternoon to pick up the car. The whole experience was so pleasant and Gary is truly a pleasure to work with. Not once did I feel pressure to add all these extra services that most dealers/mechanics try to scam you with as a woman. Fast forward a couple months, I was driving home and my left rear tire pressure light went on. The first person I thought of was to go to Gary in the morning. I dropped by and he had a garage full of cars, but still took the time to help me find this massive bolt in my tire and was able to patch my tire then and there. It is clear he cares so much about his customers and it's far beyond someone just trying to get your money. I am so thankful and appreciative for Gary being in our neighborhood. I just left the shop and I'm so impressed by how genuine Gary is and have decided he is my go to person from now on. I know nothing about cars so going to auto shop has always been a nightmare. I'm always skeptical on how people just always try to sell me things my car might not needed. I called Gary last week about my car's AC and he asked me to come in today so he could take a look on the issue. Just from the conversation alone I felt like I didn't neef to look any further. This review has been a month and a half or so overdue - Gary helped my husband and I when we were visiting family over the holidays and our bumper got stuck on a curb & got torn half off. Of course we panicked, because these repairs (Audi) can be expensive and not being from the area we did not immediately know where we should take the car. On top of that, we had only a few days left in town and needed to return back home in time for the new quarter of classes to start! (we are both teachers) Long story short, we could not have taken our business to a better place. If you are in a similar situation, scanning yelp right now hoping to find a trustworthy mechanic - no need to look further. You found him. Gary was able to fix our car in time for us to stay on schedule and for the most amazing price. He quickly assessed the situation and only replaced parts that absolutely needed replacing (and keep in mind that this could easily have been sold to us as a big/expensive replacement), and got the car back in working order considering both our limited budget and our safety. We are now planning to bring back our car to Gary for check ups or any other jobs that may be needed in the future, and have those coincide with family visits. I am sorry it's taken some time to share my experience through this medium. I have been taking my car to Gary @ Canbeq for almost 3 years now. Gary, undoubtedly is the best mechanic one would find. But besides that, he's one of the most reliable, trustworthy people I have come across. Not only is he technically competent, his humility, honesty is what sets him apart from others. I had to take my car (Merc) to another mechanic just one time (It was a Sunday and I was in a rush to get somewhere) to replace my brake pads. Guess what, they charged me double the amount. I got the front wheels fixed and got back to Gary for the rear wheels for half the price. Another point that I'd like to add is about how sensitive he is to his customers' needs. He has recommended fixing something only when he thought was an absolute necessity. There are a few things that I need to take care at some point but am holding it off to make sure I have enough to spend on things I have to. Thanks to Gary's honest opinion / recommendations ... This is another rare trait that I truly appreciate. Man this place is the best. Took my 2009 Honda Civic si for multiple reason and everything he told me was 100% accurate from suspension issues to brake problems and even fuel issues. Gary is not one of those mechanic that just talks to you about what's wrong with your vehicle he explains everything detailed on how they work and what problems will happen if you don't replace them. I brought my 1997 Toyota Corolla into Canbeq when my transmission seemed to be acting up. Gary checked it, declared it safe, and suggested that I drive it a bit more before doing anything else. It's been fine ever since, and I truly appreciated that he didn't try to get any money out of me. (In fact, I'm pretty sure he didn't even charge me for his time.) When I returned for an oil change and safety check, Gary was easygoing about scheduling me on short notice, finished quickly even though I was willing to leave my car for the day, and charged me $25. And he remembered me four months after my initial visit and was super friendly. Since then I've stuck with Gary for *everything*, and he's seen me through it all--new tires, new brakes, you name it. If my little Corolla makes it to 300,000 miles (25,000 to go!), it will be because of Gary.
