Fantastic program. Can't speak any higher of the teachers and director. Best school in town. My children love it.

She has dyslexia along with some other learning issues, which we made very clear to the school during our application. Her teacher, Amy Smith, seems both unwilling and unable to work with students who don't learn in the normal fashion. Amy has been very difficult to work with: she doesn't communicate well and she doesn't follow through on things she says she'll do. With the exception of one administrator, the school has been completely unsupportive of us and our issues. We will be withdrawing both our daughters from the school next year. I would recommend Thacher upper grades for students who are bright, quick, and self-motivated learners. If your child isn't all of those, I would highly discourage you from choosing Thacher. Certainly if you run into problems, you won't find support from the administration. We were warned by a family who had a very similar issue last year. Their daughter was also dyslexic, also had Amy Smith, and also had a horrible experience with the administration. They withdrew their daughter mid-year (forfeiting their tuition) because their daughter was so miserable.

What we didn't know is that The Village School would become the cornerstone of our family life and set the foundation for lasting friendships and connections for our kids and us too. The director and teachers are so devoted and dedicated to getting to know each individual child and meeting them on their unique educational continuum. Even when my daughters were in their first year programs I was blown away at conference time by how the teachers knew and understood their personalities and learning styles so well, despite only spending 2 or 3 mornings together each week. The Village School is truly such a special place, and we could not ask for a better first school experience for our daughters. We'll be sad to send our last off to kindergarten next year, but know that she has all of the tools she needs, socially, emotionally, and academically, to set her up for success!

Perceptions and…read morebehaviors of exclusivity and not inclusivity were rampant throughout the whole process - even more obvious when you look at the classrooms and the makeup of the students. We went to the info sessions, sat in the class and watched a class in progress, met with the director, did the parents night and were declined admission; with no explanation at all, even when asked - just ghosted. We spent a lot of time preparing forms and talking to teachers and felt the least they could do was provide some clarity. My only assumption can be they reached their quota of ethnic children in the classroom. In the end, it was truly for the best, we ended up at Bright Horizons and had a phenomenal educational experience that prepared my very bright child over and beyond what was needed for kindergarten.

I wanted to share a my experience " interviewing " for this school a couple years ago…read more I was really excited for my toddler to attend a Montessori school. I was pregnant with my second child and had a busy job. We were invited a first time for a school tour and to meet with the director. I am a black woman and she told me all about her " black " friend. At some point I had to cut short the discussion to go back to work. The second test was an evening with other parents to discuss more about the philosophy of the school and ask our questions. There were multiple evenings planned. I was surprised when I arrived to discover that 70-80% of the room was composed of black parents or people of color. It was a surprise because when I visited the school, there were not many black kids. And the evening seemed more like a quizz / an exam. Our level of participation would indicate who would get the golden ticket for their child to attend. We didn't get it and I reached out to understand why. I never got an answer despite a couple emails. It left a bitter taste and I really felt manipulated. All that to say, it is a private school and they can build their own rules. But I question the values of diversity and inclusion of this school.
