INTRODUCTION
It has taken me forever to sit down and write a review of CAMP Tampa, mainly for two reasons: 1) I wanted to FULLY experience CAMP inside and out so I could give a kick-ass review for a studio that has become a second (let's be honest... first) home to me. 2) I like to write... a lot... and I knew this review would most likely be verrrryyyy long and take me a few hours! But, here I am, 9 months later, writing up this review - so, if you truly want to know how amazingly wonderful CAMP is for the Tampa community, then get yo'self about 4 cups of coffee, 3 shots of espresso, some snacks, and cozy up to computer while simultaneously reading my review and browsing the CAMP website for your next class (#multitasking at its finest):
ABOUT CAMP
CAMP is basically the most magical place on Earth... but, if you must know, it's a studio that offers Cycle, Yoga, and Circuit classes. Seems simple, but these classes are so much more than just your typical yoga, cycle, or circuit classes. There are blends, triathlons, sculpting, cardio, and muscle-group specific classes. This, in my opinion, is the biggest thing that sets CAMP apart from other studios and keeps me coming back. They have several class package offers and your first class is always free - I would highly recommend a blend to take advantage of trying out two different workouts! See below to learn a bit more about each type of workout offered, the studio, the people, etc ... and try not to be impressed.
STUDIO VIBES
There are two buildings at CAMP. Your main building houses the Cycle and Circuit studios, while the second building is reserved for Yoga. Makes sense, right? Both buildings - which are steps away from each other - have the same smiling faces greeting you, as well as yummy goodies in the snack case, and retail - which in my opinion is mandatory to buy because their apparel in the absolute BEST studio apparel I've ever seen. Heading back towards the individual class rooms, there are lockers in both buildings to house your personal belongings while you sweat. No distractions. The Cycle and Circuit rooms are similar in the fact that they both have the lights turned down and the music turned up. As you ride, run, and lift, the lights can transform your workout, pumping to the beat of the music, or pushing you on that final sprint. Mirrors line each studio - which I am a huge fan of - form is everything and these mirrors will keep you in check - plus, everyone checks themselves out when hustlin', right? Right??
The Yoga studio, just across the way, in the complete opposite and during those blend classes, so needed! You walk in to the building to the smell of Palo Santo burning, hushed voices, and a warmth. After locking away your belongings, grabbing a mat and towel, you head in to the actual class - greeted with more heat, mason jar candles lining the large picture windows, cork flooring, and exposed wood ceiling beams. The epitome of tranquil. Don't expect the tranquility to last too long though, depending on what class you signed up for! Soon there will be powerful flows to heavy beats, working up an intense sweat as you challenge your mind and body before reaching Savasana. I highly suggest an early morning class as well as a sunset class - the experience is magical and it is what makes CAMP's yoga studio my absolute favorite.
CYCLE
Let's start with Cycle - their main classes are 45 minutes of beat based rides led by some kick-ass instructors (I'm looking at you Kim & Danielle!) - however if you want something less intimidating, they also have 30 minute express rides or 60 minute rides for the over-achiever. If you're like me and tend to get antsy in one class, they offer the exclusive "blends" which combines either 30 minutes of cycle and 30 minutes of yoga, or 30 minutes of circuit and 30 minutes of cycle. If you want to get really crazy, they have "triathlons" every once in a while and you DO NOT want to miss those - that's exactly what you think it is, 30 minutes of each class - cycle, circuit, and yoga. If all of this wasn't enough, they just introduced a Cycle Sculpt class - I haven't taken one yet, but it introduces more weighted work (which you use in the typical 45 minutes class - think 3 to 5 lb dumbbells for arm and shoulder work) as well as resistance bands to really amp up that burn! Do I really need to go on? Cycle shoes are available to rent if you aren't on an unlimited package, but towels are always free!
YOGA
Walking in to the yoga studio is an experience all on its own....
