It's hard to know what to rate when I'm choosing these stars for something other than a food…read moreestablishment. For Pure Barre, I tried it for the first time today and have to say that I was very impressed with the studio. It's clean, and the shop in the front has a lot of fun headbands, hair ties, and workout wear. I didn't shop around to check out the prices, as I'm not in the market for anything, but there were definitely a lot of option. The owner and staff are so friendly and helpful. I had made a reservation for the noon class, arrived a few minutes early, filled out my form, and it was time to step inside. The warmup is intense! One of my friends told me that the warmup is pretty serious, and she wasn't joking. It was the only time we really worked on arms or with the hand weights, though. All of the other parts of the 55 minutes were spent targeting tummy, seat (butt), and thighs. And that whole lift. tone. burn. motto? Yup! You do all of the above. I could feel the burn the entire time, and even with the teensy movements we were supposed to make it was amazing the amount I felt it in every part I was supposed to. The instructor knew what she was doing. She demonstrated every activity and made herself visible to everyone in the room. There was only one time in the class where I didn't understand what we were doing, but it wasn't because she wasn't showing us. Some of the movements on the ab section are so small when sitting against the wall that I just couldn't tell what I was supposed to be doing. I did learn after the class that there is an intro class offered to newbies to learn about the different terminology. To be honest though I'd rather just come to a few of these and pick it up as you go. My thighs and hips are already sore and I love it! I wore an HRM, and in one 55 minute class I burned 290 calories. That's not to take away from what it did for my muscles and starting the journey to being more lean. I definitely will continue to go back, and I can see myself becoming addicted. It isn't a cardio workout, though there were a few times where my heart rate did elevate to a medium difficulty cardio level. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the cost, but it's something that I'll just have to swallow. It's so hard for me to pay $20 for an individual class of anything. There are packages offered for introductory members and for group packages, but it doesn't go much lower than $15-$16/class. It's a little more expensive than going to yoga, but the benefits will also be greater I believe. If it weren't so much, I could see myself going on a much more regular basis. Boutique workout classes, though, tend to be costly. You do get what you pay for with individual attention and well educated instructors. I did learn too that every class each day will be the same, but that different days follow different formats and exercises. It makes me excited to continue seeing the different exercises that are options in Pure Barre!

I loved that I didn't have to miss my daily dose of Pure Barre. Plus, there tends to be discounted deals through the studio on holidays ;)

TLDR: Amazing prenatal yoga classes, wonderful tribe of moms in the Mommy and Me classes, and now I…read morecan add the perfect place to throw a birthday party! I've been going to Green Locus Yoga for close to two years now. I started when I first got pregnant and now my son is 13 months. Wow, does time fly. Most recently, we attended a one year old birthday here. It was perfect! Here was the set up. We ran in 15 minutes late (of course. Btw how were all the other moms on time? I honestly thought we would all be that late.) The class had already started and kids and moms were dancing on their yoga mats. I really respect places that are timely! We had about 30 minutes of yoga/body movement to music (about 45 minutes for everyone who was on time). Then we had some refreshments the mom brought. I thought it was over at this point, but no, we had more structured play with a giant parachute! I thought it was a fantastic way to structure the birthday for one year olds - they have the attention span of squirrels so that food break was a necessity. At the end of the party, Mallory, the owner, told everyone to stay as long as we liked, but of course being moms of toddlers, everyone ran for nap time. However, it is a good feeling knowing you are never rushed to leave. After throwing Yoshi's first birthday at my house this year, this seems like the perfect alternative for his next birthday. They have a cap of 12 parents/kids (so a total of about 25), which makes sense for the space. We had a blast and the class was perfectly suited for the age of the kids.

I also recommend the Bounce Barre class. The instructor is amazing and I love it better than Pure Barre. You don't feel as sore but you still can feel you worked your butt off! I will say the prices without the Groupon are a little pricey but it was a great experience.

They are locking you in for a weekly withdrawal of $65 for 3 months. As long as they succeed in their hustle they are polite but if you dispute anything they have been extremely rude, extremely dismissive. The manager of training today said something very unpleasant under his breath, a front desk manager had such a hostile energy about her . They are serious about hustling you for private training be on your awares.

DO NOT DO PT HERE…read more After a series of deaths in my life I went to my PT to cancel (after completing a 3 month contract you are forced into to do PT at all) because just eating was difficult let alone trying to work out. He convinced me to freeze instead of canceling, stating he would check in as we approach . Well what I didn't know is that to both freeze and cancel they require you to pay for two more sessions - by convincing me to freeze he guaranteed himself four more sessions with me I would be forced to complete or lose money. Hold on, it gets even better! He never followed up with me, I was then charged for a month of PT at the end of October, meaning now I have paid for 6 sessions I don't want and still do not have the capacity to follow through on. When I speak to Crunch I'm told that even though I have paid for SIX sessions I still have to pay for two more to cancel. Lovely. I speak to "management" about a refund for any of the sessions considering 1) PT did not disclose I would need to pay two more sessions to cancel after already doing that for a freeze. 2) PT never followed up and I wouldn't have agreed to that freeze without assurance of a follow up bc I was grieving and not on top of things outside of my job to survive. 3) what work / labor / expense justification can be made that I need to spend all this money to cancel when I already followed through with the contracted 3 months? We are now in December, the manager no longer returns my calls. No answer from corporate on their decision of my refund request (I'm assuming bc I have not been informed). My PT used my grief against me and had the audacity to lecture me about 'not answering his texts / follow up" when I went to speak to him about my disappointment in his professionalism. I'm so over accountable I believed him and apologized bc I didn't have my phone on me to check. Guess what - those text and follow up were non existent! There is not any missed communications between us but WAIT ! It gets better. I'm in Washington DC watching as my ex PT is booking and marking sessions complete. This insures that he gets paid from the sessions I have on my account I am trying to get refunded. Funny, I wasn't important enough to get a text / call 'hey girl your freeze is about to be done, are you ready to come back?' But he can remember to book sessions to pay himself. I highly doubt I am the only person to experience this. It breaks my heart to know elderly people, people where English is their second language; people with fixed incomes, and people who are battling insecurities with their bodies could experience what I am experiencing now. Please know the 'tour of the gym with a PT is a scam". Every opportunity they have to get you to sign a dotted line there is a way to hook you for more money. They also have a very unhealthy culture - I'll never forget the day my PT tried to bond with me by making fun of a sweet woman in her 40s dancing while she worked out. Nothing better than realizing the person you made responsible for helping your health has an unhealthy judgmental brain themselves. What happened to the space of 'No Judgements' ? The day we lost Lifestyles, a gym of integrity with a childcare area for families to this predatory, contract binding Crunch was a sad day for our community. Side note, this is not just a problem with our location. If you try to contact corporate or call any listed numbers you realize very quickly this is a business design. By creating an unreachable gap between individual gym and corporate, they guarantee a culture of no accountability. It's not unintentional, it's a business model. RUN AWAY
