A consistently great experience with Cambridge Dental. Dr. Alpheia Johnson is kind, caring, and gentle with my teeth when doing cleanings or any other procedures. The receptionist is always responsive and professional. The thing that really stands out to me is that Dr. Johnson doesn't upsell me or insist that I upgrade my fillings, get braces, or push aggressive gum procedures on me as my last two dentists have. I had a bad experience with my previous dentist and decided to give another dentist a chance. My preference was one of color. A friend mentioned this practice. My situation is that I don't need another exam per se for some time. I just had one in April. My insurance won't pay for deep cleaning until January 2018. They recommended that until that time, I do periodontal maintenance. This was all explained at the time that I made my appointment. Today I receive a phone call from the "office manager". Talk about being rude. She goes on to state that I have to pay for my examination. When I ask her why, she has no good answer. She further stated that because none of the doctors at this practice completed my exam, I needed a new one. It should be noted that this isn't a second opinion. It sounded like they were questioning the professional integrity and ability of a fellow dentist. She started off by saying that she would contact my insurance and further verify what I was covered for (she told me in the beginning that she did call). Then she ends by stating that she didn't think the practice would be for me because I am trying to get a free exam. I am not trying to get anything for free. Rather, I am trying to get everything that because I work am entitled for. I stressed to her that I was HIGHLY OFFENDED and inquired who I could speak to that was over her. She stated that there was no one over her. When I asked for her name again, she hung up. As a person with a phone call in health policy and administration this individual is not a person who should be charged with the day to day operation of any healthcare practice. Contrary to what people may think, ones office staff is just as important and the the care the health provider provides. While I still need work done on my teeth, this rude office staff member did me a huge favor. She showed me what type of service I would receive before I even received it. read more

Absolutely disrespectful place of business. It's unacceptable that I had to get a call from my mother, crying, that she was treated like absolute dirt. Told that she "wasn't getting anything" to treat her abscess, as well as having their dentist tell them, "i've had it with you." What kind of disgusting practice are you running that you have the gall to treat people like this? What's even worse is the fact that you couldn't even allow my brother--who happens to also take care of an Autistic, diabetic, adult--be in the room with her. "We're not a babysitting service." The other remarkable thing was that I tried to call, only to have my phone call rejected 8 times. I knew they were being rejected when attempt number 4, my call must have been accidentally picked up and I heard the receptionists chatting, only to be hung up on, with my subsequent call. When I used my office phone? They picked up right away. Apparently there wasn't any excuse except for "we're busy." You can find a better dentist elsewhere, with better staff, better booking policies, and better people who actually care about clients and not just their paycheck. read more

I have been to several dentists in my neighborhood, and I think I finally found one I like.

Ugh. It's always embarrassing when you know you've neglected to take care of yourself and you have to go to the doctor and admit it. My teeth were in terrible condition, but finally I forced myself to find a dentist and do something about it. Since apparently I can't choose anything that's more than 10 minutes from my apartment, I found Cambridge Dental and they took my insurance. Sold. I walked in about 5 min before my appt and filled out paper work, and was taken in within 15 minutes or so. The hygienist was a nice young man who was very personable while shoving those sharp pieces of plastic in my mouth to take xrays (seriously, there's no less painful way to do that?). After that, Dr. Johnson came in and assessed my disaster of a mouth and then cleaned and polished my teeth. I loved that she actually explained everything she was doing and asked me a lot of questions about my oral health. She was friendly and easy to talk to, and quite gentle with the cleaning process. I guess I shouldn't blame Dr. Johnson for my 2987028 cavities, so overall, she deserves 4 stars. I can't really think of anything negative about the experience, but I just don't see how going to the dentist could be a 5-star occasion. The good news is that I'm no longer terrified to go back for my follow-ups to get my cavities filled. read more

I thought it important to write a review after looking to Yelp to aid in my dentist selection. I need to start off by saying that dental visits have always been a little traumatic for me. Even a cleaning strikes fear in my heart. If I could be knocked out for everything from a cleaning to a root canal, I would be, even with the fuzzy, post-anesthesia glow. I've pretty much hated every dentist I've ever been to. Via some reviews and a presence on ZocDoc (because who doesn't love an Internet savvy dentist), I decided to try Cambridge Dental. My first visit I was taken right away, cleaned and x-rayed painlessly and told I needed a few fillings. The 2nd and 3rd visits required a little longer wait, but it's a dentists office so I expected it. The front desk staff was direct but polite and accommodating. The dentists (I've seen 2) were quick, careful, thorough and informative. Most appreciatively they were calm and used enough novacaine to keep the procedure quick and painless (my body has some weird aversion to Novacaine. Awesome huh?) Overall, I didn't have a severe panic attack when going back for my 2nd visit. And for me, that's saying something. read more

This is by far the best Dentist I have ever been to. The staff are amazing; from Dr. Johnson herself, the dental hygenist, the girls at reception and the dental assistants! They make you feel so welcomed and at ease. I've had an abcessed tooth which got really painful over the weekend and they did not turn me away because I didn't have an appointment. It actually seemed as if Dr. Johnson wished she was open over the weekend so she could've treated me sooner. I ultimately ended up getting a root canal and let me tell you, it was not painful at all. Not that day nor any day after. She really likes to make sure she treats you thoroughly. From making sure she can treat your root canal in one day if things get a little tricky, to making sure your crown fits extremely well and you're very satisfied with it. She wouldn't let you walk out the door if you say "I can deal with it." The compassion provided by her and her staff is real. And I must say she has one of the best dental assistants I have ever encountered. I've developed a relationship with Jazzi, throughout my last few visits. She really helps keep my anxiety at bay and makes my experience there so much better. I can converse with her and trust her assisting the dentist in my mouth. I can call the office and she will know me by name. I cannot tell you how important that makes me feel, let alone her caring demeanor. She is one of the best, and I'm so glad she's there, in the room with me, and really able to put me at ease. One of the main reasons I will continue to come to Cambridge Dental and cannot wait to return to dentist again! read more

This is the best experience I've had in 9 months. Dr. A. Johnson is an amazing dentist. She was very patient, kind, caring and nice. She got my teeth right the first time around. The other dentist that I was going to on Fulton near Bedford Ave was absolutely awful, I had to keep returning from 6/19 until 2/20 for the same teeth, so I decided to go to Dr. A. since my last check-up, i've gained two holes in my back teeth, a cracked tooth and a dead nerve. the treatment? two fillings, a crown and a root canal, respectively. yes, my dentist has confirmed that three out of the four are stress-related ... thank you previous job for the going-away gift you gave me! fuck ... me ... hard. (butttt, thanks to obama, i can afford my insurance! obamama for life!) granted i haven't had the work done yet - i can regale you with the lovely deets when completed - but dr johnson has made the situation go all the more smoother. she didn't chastise me for missing my last appointment - yup, i was working - and she even praised me for my excellent flossing skills. hey, i didn't suffer four years of braces, making for a painful adolescence, for nothing. call it a beauty trifecta ... i had the braces, glasses and acne. dr johnson is personable, thoughtful and a great person to talk to. i actually started going to her based on a reco from a former roomie/BFF from high school 2.5 years ago. she never fails to ask me how that friend is doing (she's now in dubai), how i'm faring in the 'hood and what i've been up to. we did hit it off from the beginning ... meaning, we got along so well that she offered me the possibility of subletting her sweet apartment. my taking over her place never panned out but in doing so, she garnered a fan for life. dr johnson rocks my socks. i'm glad she'll be holding my very sweaty hand when i get the root canal in 1.5 weeks. if her practice takes your insurance and you're in the 'hood, she's a great person to go to. read more

I have had a full set of dentures for about two years now and like most I hated them. I mentioned implants to my dentist at the time however he hated implants and talked me out of them. About a year into them I started looking into implants. Went to several oral surgeons and they either would not help do my age or were so expensive ($50,000+) I could not afford them. Finally found Cambridge Dental and Dr V... From the onset they were fantastic! They were professional and caring from the front office to the staff and told me they could give me implant assisted dentures. And here I sit today with dentures that are attached by implants. What can I say about Dr. Johnson that hadn't already been said, she is absolutely amazing! I had my first visit at Cambridge Dental about a month ago thanks to the reviews here on Yelp, & you guys once again did not disappoint. Dr. Johnson is very thorough and efficient. She was detailed in explaining the work I needed to get done on my initial visit which was a cleaning & X-rays. On the day of my first official appointment I was seated in the chair promptly. I had to get a few fillings done on this day and Dr. Johnson was extremely quick (20 mins for 2 fillings, how awesome is that). Overall going to the Dentist is a very daunting task but Dr. Johnson was pleasant and her demeanor was welcoming and trust worthy, a true professional. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Johnson. read more

Really nice little dentist office on the crazy street of Fulton. Pleasant receptionist and pretty easy with scheduling an appointment online or over the phone. The hygienist was very nice and polite, she has a soft touch, which left me very satisfied with my cleaning. It was my first time being there and the experience was pleasant. Their office is quaint, but they could probably renovate and clean a little more. Their equipment was fine, just the furnishings need an upgrade. Overall, very happy with the experience.
