I am SO thankful for Dr. Hoang after an absolutely HORRIBLE experience at Prospect Heights Dental (which you can read all about at their Yelp page). After a practice that didn't take covid seriously, did an unnecessary and COSTLY dental procedure that I am still healing from weeks later, hurting my lip, and being just a complete disorganized disaster, I'm really lucky that my second shot at dentistry was so much better. I prefaced in my last review that I made the mistake of not going to the dentist for a long time - granted, I didn't have insurance for 6 months and then the moment I got insurance, covid happened and I got scared. But still, it's reasonable I had a ton of build up/tartar/gum disease and definitely a wake up call for me. At the last dentist, I was told immediately I needed a root and scaling/deep clean without them even doing the measurement thing on my gums, just x-rays. They did the root and scale on my right side but not my left (only one is done at a time), which has left me weeks later with angry miserable gums, gaps in my teeth I didn't prior have, and cost me $500 out of pocket. When I got to Dr. Hoang, she actually took her time examining my x-rays, my gums, and my mouth to find that 1) the deep clean didn't even deep clean, as I still had a bunch of tartar making my gums even more unhappy and 2) my gums weren't as bad as I had thought, and I didn't even need to do a root and scaling/deep clean on the left side. If I had gone to Dr. Hoang in the first place, I wouldn't be still miserable, with ugly and uncomfortable gaps in my teeth that I literally struggle to talk and eat with, and wouldn't be out $500 as all she did was a regular cleaning for me on the left. My biggest disappointment is I didn't go to her first. On top of that she's super sweet, lets you ask questions, doesn't make you feel bad about your obvious mistakes, and makes sure you fully feel comfortable before she does anything. Thank you so much for restoring my faith in dentistry. The practice is also great!!! Sallie from reception was very pleasant over the phone and email, and I'm not sure if it was her or a different receptionist at the front today, but she was great too. Everyone is wearing masks and taking Covid very seriously. They sent out a covid form the night before and took my temperature when I arrived. And...... last thing, they were playing Death Cab for Cutie when I walked in. As a born and raised Seattleite, this made me so happy :) read more

I have a long history (about 40 years' worth) with this dental practice, first with Larry and Skippy and now with Kevin - uhh, I mean Dr. Hansen - and his associates, and I can't imagine anyone else getting their hands in my mouth. Everyone, from Drs. Hansen and Hoang, to Alice and the front desk staff, to the hygienists, are always so nice and friendly and professional. I've been taking my kids to this office long before Dr Hansen became a partner. This practice is wonderful! The front desk folks, especially Alice, whom I've known for years, are just the best! Curiosity was getting to me about a sudden tooth irritation, and I had to get it checked out. I called Alice in the morning, and she was able to fit me in last second after lunch. She warned me ahead of time that it would be tight. However, Dr. Kevin was anything but rushed and pushy. He evulated my teeth along with oral cavity. He answered questions and I felt no rush. Even though I came in to check for a cavity, he went above and beyond to recommended treatment for another issue. He even gave me a quote on the spot with the detailed procedures. After the appointment was done, Alice took her time to help explain and recommend the best type of dental insurance to purchase. As my plan was up, she answered all questions I had and gave her honest opinions. The office has a family vibe, and the personal touch from both the staff, and Dr. Hansen can't be beat. read more

I have been going to Dr Hansen's dental practice for several years now for cleanings and exams. I recently met a Dr, who works at Dr. Hansens practice, and who is great!! I am in my 50's and have had a baby tooth my whole life that has never fallen out. I have asked many dentists in the past if something can be done about it, at least cosmetically. Every dentist I asked said I should just leave it as it was more trouble than it was worth, with little guarantee of good results. Dr Hoang immediately spotted it last time I had a cleaning and exam and offered to do a cosmetic solution for me while I came in to get a filling as well. Awesome. She was super enthusiastic, totally creative and effective in her solutions, and she did a fantastic job! I now have a full sized "adult tooth" that looks normal. I feel very fortunate to have come across her. She is excellent! I literally have a whole new smile as well as a just the filling I was getting done! :) read more

I have seen hygienists in Dr. Hansen's office for two years, and Dr. Hansen once--all with no complaints. At my last cleaning, Dr. Hansen's associate (another dentist) examined my teeth for about a minute, which added $75 to the bill. When checking out, I said that I had only wanted a cleaning, not a cursory exam. I was told that that Dr. Hansen now requires the look-over exam at each cleaning. OK, I replied, but what about letting patients know of this change in procedure? Even if before I go in the room for the cleaning? I reluctantly paid. I wrote Dr. Hansen to complain. He wrote back in a few days, explaining why his insurance company now requires this and apologized that I was missed in the communication process. He seemed concerned. I appreciate the apology and explanation, and do know that mistakes happen. read more

This review is long overdue! I found Dr. Hansen in 2010, having had to bite the bullet and deal with several issues that were the result of being uninsured for a very long time. I was super nervous and had poor experiences with dentists in the past, so I did my research. Everyone noted how gentle and chill Dr. Hansen was, so I gave it a shot, and they were absolutely right. He's very patient and nice, explains everything he's doing, and is great at communicating and answering questions. That has not always been my experience with medical professionals, unfortunately. Everyone on his team is lovely as well. His dental assistant Bernadette is very friendly and gentle as well, and I've been shooting the breeze with Alice and Christina at the front desk for so many years they feel like family. And I've only heard great things about Dr. Lipman, their newest addition. When I first visited Dr. Hansen I was working toward a confident smile for my sister's wedding. Six years later I've been continuing my dental wellness journey and gearing up for my own wedding, where I won't be hiding my smile. I switched from an average dentist in park slope to Dr. Hansen at the recommendation of an oral surgeon. From the first time I called, Alice spent the time to get to know my dental situation and explained my insurance options thoroughly. She then scheduled me for an appointment a week later at 8am. That's right, 8 am. They start work early on thursdays to accommodate those who cannot miss work. They also do a late day with hours into the night. On top of that, they work Saturdays. Alice called me the next day To tell me about a cancellation the following morning. Dr. Hansen is very personable and clearly very good at what he does. He took double the time ANY dentist I have ever been to has. This is not a bad thing. He wanted to make sure that the color of my filling was perfect, so he went back and added a slightly brighter tone of white. Past Dentists have done the work, and shoved me out of the chair to get to the next wallet... I mean patient...with mixed results. The extra time and care that was taken on my front teeth fillings only makes me more confident in his skill and consideration. I don't write reviews. Ever. So far, so great! I made an appointment for my entire family today. Alice went over and above her duties (in my humble opinion) and for that reason alone, I'm giving this place 5 stars. That's right, I haven't even been there and they're already amazing. Seriously, they fought for my business and that's about as good as it gets. Judging by every else's rating on yelp.com, I will be back with another 5 star review after the visit. Only CON: Appointments booked 4 weeks in advance BUT they will call with cancelations. UPDATE: Toddler went to see Dr. Hansen. It was quick and the tech was able to make him fell comfortable (after some coercing) Either way, they are just as friendly in person and well worth the wait. Normally I could never say I had a nice time at the dentist but I did. The office is wonderful and very easy to get to from Fort Greene. Alice, the blonde haired lady in the office is lovely. Dr. Hansen has a wonderful personality and Rachel, my hygienist was sweet and friendly. X-rays and cleaning were not painful. There truly isn't a better dentist out there! I was having an extremely sensitive tooth problem and the staff at the front desk was efficiently able to make me an appointment to see Dr. Hansen within the week that I called. I was taken in on time and asked what was going on with my tooth. Dr. Hansen did a few different tests to gauge the sensitivity of my tooth and an X-ray to see around the tooth. Each step he informed me what he was doing and why he was doing it. He even took it a step further and put a seal around my gums for the sensitivity. Before I left I was provided with all the tools and information I needed to care for my sensitive tooth. Absolutely love this place! The receptionists down to all of the hygienists are so pleasant. I can't remember the last time I went to the dentist and didn't watch the clock. Dr. Hansen is very nice and isn't one of those dentists that try to convince you to get a large operation for a small problem (hate that). My hygienist was so nice and gentle. I told her where my tender spots were in my mouth and she made sure to take it easy when operating on that side. When I came out, my teeth were sparkly and clean!! No pain! JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT The office is very cozy and the rooms have high ceilings so it's very aesthetically pleasing. You forget that sharp things have to go in your mouth in a couple seconds...at least I did. If you're looking for a new dentist, definitely try here. If you're driving, come early because the office is right near Prospect Park and you may need to park a little farther down but at least afterward you can take a stroll on the park! I've been seeing Dr. Hansen since 2016. I get regular cleanings. I've chatted with him during those and at the door. I wasn't able to talk to him at my last cleaning a few weeks ago. So I followed up with the new receptionist, Sally, to see if I could get him on the phone. I could not. I left a message. Today I called back and Sally had no idea what message I'd left. The lady works running off an internal script. Like a chat bot. She kept suggesting a new appointment, and said that due to COVID the doctor is busy. Initially, she just came off as inexperienced. Today she was just cold and maybe angry. I asked about Alice but where Alice calls me at will, Sally prevented me from talking to her and also didn't take a message. Not that Alice would have gotten my note. Very strange. We've all been under duress. I get it. Maybe the office doesn't know what Sally is saying to their patients. Just had to update this review after I had a small emergency. On Tuesday my puppy enthusiastically jumped up to play and we collided. My front tooth was chipped into an M shape with a jagged piece. I called the office the next morning and they were able to fit me in at 4 o'clock with Dr. Lipman. After explaining what happened to everyone (because its a bizarre story and I had to laugh at my luck) they had me in the chair and everything was sorted out and now my tooth no longer has a widows peak. Kevin took over my former dentist's practice a few years ago. I have to admit, I was worried at first, because of my loyalty to my former dentist but Kevin is a really a terrific dentist. He's caring, a perfectionist, a hard worker, and as gentle as they come. He's a very sweet guy and I find that endearing in a dentist. He also has a great office staff from Alice, his receptionist, to Teresa, his hygenist, to Bernadette, his dental assistant. Also, for those who insist on gas (and I do), Kevin uses gas, thank goodness. And he plays nice music. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Hansen's for about 6 years now. In fact, my entire family is seen by him-- my husband, our 7 year old, our 4 year old, and soon our 2 year old will be as well. I have never had a more pleasant experience with a doctor's office in my life. Punctual, courteous, familial-- the whole package. It starts with Alice and Christina (an aunt/niece pair) who are the most competent, friendly front desk women you'll ever know. They will navigate the insurance with you, squeeze you in for a last minute appointment, agree to a payment plan when finances are tough, and even hold your infant while you are in the dentist chair! They cannot be beat. Then to the hygienists Theresa and Alison-- thorough, gentle, excellent with children and adults and they'll even squeal over your children's photos and tell you where they got their fashionable boots from. Then the main event-- Dr. Hansen-- my son calls him Dr. Handsome which is adorable. He is through, competent, will tell you if he can see you you, or if a specialist is better, and all the while with excellent bedside manner and taste in music. I have had one recent experience wtih Dr. Lipman and loved her-- a perfect addition to the team! You will never dread a dentist's visit again if you go to this place! Enjoy! read more

I love going to Dr. Hansen's office. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. All of the hygienists do a great job at not only cleaning my teeth but keeping me relaxed while I'm in their care. The front desk staff are great at answering any of my questions and accommodating me if I need to change an appointment. I went to see doctor Hansen for a routine checkup. I had not been to the dentist in a long time and the dentist office is definitely a scary place for me. But from the moment I walked in I was made to feel so comfortable and at home. Dr.Hansen is one of the best dentist I have been to. I had to get 2 wisdom teeth extracted and he did it so swiftly and with no pain. He made me feel so comfortable during the whole procedure that I didn't even feel like I was at the dentist. I just finished 11 months of Invisalign with Dr. Hansen (he wants you to call him Kevin) and the whole experience was fantastic. (Well, I mean as fantastic as having plastic on your teeth for almost a year can be.) The staff are all friendly and sweet and they respect your time, running a punctual ship. I figured it was about time I get around to reviewing this dental office, since I'm in there so regularly (I'm nearly through with an Invisalign treatment)! I've been going to this practice for years, since before Kevin took it over, and like another reviewer, was a little bit worried when my old dentist started easing into retirement. I shouldn't have been. I had a horrible dentist as a kid, and have had dentist-phobia ever since. I told Kevin about it right off the bat, and he has been extremely gentle, patient, and kind from the outset. When I've gotten fillings, particularly a deep one, he checks in with me throughout the procedure to make sure I'm doing okay, even if I haven't indicated any discomfort. The rule in this dental office is that the patient should never be in any pain, and I am grateful for that. The Invisalign procedure has been great as well, and I almost have my straight smile back (my own fault for not wearing my retainers after I got my braces off in college...I'll do better this time). The office staff is also wonderful, and I feel as if I'm talking to friends when I call in to make an appointment. Probably the best recommendation I can give them is this: I am a city employee and do not have great dental insurance. Kevin's office is not on the list of providers my insurance wants me to use, and they reimburse me a pittance as a result (they once gave me $11 back for a filling-I'm not kidding). I'm not rich, but I would rather go to this office an pay out of pocket than risk another dentist who might be a participant in my dental plan. I am not the only one at my work who feels this way, either. read more

Kevin took over the practice from my former dentist and as someone very resistant to change I was reluctant to use him. I also was once "dental phobic" so I really needed someone who was patient, gentle, and understanding. Kevin more than fills the bill and is an excellent dentist. This office Rocks!!! From the moment you enter, you feel as if you are family with the staff. The welcoming atmosphere and the ladies at the front desk make sure you are comfortable. The hygienists are all very professional and make every effort to make your time with them as comfortable as possible. Let me say that my teeth are very sensitive. I experience pain easily during routine cleanings. The hygienist I use is always extra cautious and is very careful that I don't feel any discomfort while the cleaning process is going on. Dr. Hansen is a great dentist. He extracted a tooth and I did not feel any pain during the procedure. He only needed to administer one shot of local to the nerves in my jaw. I love coming to Dr. Hansen's office. Who would have ever thought I would say I love coming to the dentist. Dr. Hansen and his team are so great. He's gentle and explains everything he does as he's doing it. The staff know me by name and it really creates a welcoming environment. They know my availability is limited, and will always accommodate my schedule with late evening appointments. Moreover, if my co-pay is out of my budget, they'll allow me to do a payment plan over the course of a few months. I love coming here and hope I never have to change dentists. read more
