My daughter has autism and she has sensory issues. She hates going to doctors and never sits still. She will cry and scream. I was wondering if there is an option to put the child to sleep for when getting a procedure done?

I imagine this dentist is totally fine, great even, for routine things like 6 month cleanings…read more However, my experience with them when my 2 year old chipped his tooth was less than ideal. My kiddo fell and chipped one of his front teeth. It is a small chip, but it did expose a tiny bit of nerve. The dentist at BiteSize examined him (he cried throughout the entire exam) and told us he would lose the tooth, full stop. She told us she could pull it that day, or in a few weeks, but that there was no hope for the tooth. We decided to wait a bit before having it pulled. We were devastated (our baby!!). After leaving the office, I felt unsettled and decided it was worth getting a second opinion. The dentist at the second practice (also in Park Slope) went above and beyond to care for my toddler and for us as parents. When I first contacted her, she was on vacation, but she responded to my voicemail within an hour and asked me to text her photos of the tooth so she could gauge how serious it was from afar. After looking at the photos, she told us there was hope, and to hold off on any intervention until she could examine him. She also connected us to an emergency pediatric dentist in town, in case our kid stopped eating during the week she was away. He continued eating like normal and didn't exhibit pain that was out-of-the-ordinary directly after a fall. We saw our new dentist the day she was back from vacation. She examined the tooth and had our kid GIGGLING in the dentist chair! He didn't shed a single tear. She talked with him directly and let him use her dentist tools to give me an "exam". She was so patient and made him feel comfortable and at ease through the entire visit. At the end, she told us to wait it out, and that kids have an incredible ability to heal themselves. And here we are...5 months and one follow-up visit later....with a smile full of teeth! He didn't need to get it pulled in the end. We can no longer see the nerve, and his tooth didn't even discolor as the dentist at BiteSize explained it would. I would seriously caution against BiteSize if you are searching for a low-intervention approach to dentistry. If we had stuck with them, he would have had yet another traumatic visit to the dentist and would have lost his front tooth for years. Always trust your gut and get a second opinion.

Imagine a pediatric dental office that cares more about policy and profits than their young…read morepatients. Apparently, that's Bitesize Pediatric Dentistry. I was referred here by my family dentist who, after examining my 5-year-old daughter and finding a cavity, referred me here since they don't have pediatric anesthetics. According to their website, Bitesize is open on Saturdays from 9am-2pm; but when I called to make an appointment last Saturday I got a recording that says it's only open Monday - Friday. Aside from posting inaccurate information, when I finally get through this morning and explain the situation, I'm told my daughter would need a "consultation" first, and that they couldn't guarantee they'd be able to treat her the same day. I explained that my daughter is very anxious about going to the doctor, so I was hoping to avoid making two visits to spare her (and me) the stressful experience. The gentleman who answered put me on hold to inquire only to come back several minutes later and convey that it was their "policy" to have a consultation first since she was a new patient. It went from not being able to guarantee treatment on the same day as a consultation to refusing to treat her without this futile consultation. My daughter was seen by a board certified dentist who determined she had a cavity. It's not like I called with a subjective belief that she might have a cavity, nor is this major dental surgery. Bitesize could've just as easily requested the doctor's scans or a written referral detailing the findings just like with any other referral, which is pretty common practice in the medical field; but I guess not at Bitesize who likely has this "policy" so it can double bill me and/or my insurance rather than accommodate a little girl who's terrified of doctors. I'll be sure to let my dentist know they should think twice before referring anyone else there!

I am SO thankful for Dr. Hoang after an absolutely HORRIBLE experience at Prospect Heights Dental…read more(which you can read all about at their Yelp page). After a practice that didn't take covid seriously, did an unnecessary and COSTLY dental procedure that I am still healing from weeks later, hurting my lip, and being just a complete disorganized disaster, I'm really lucky that my second shot at dentistry was so much better. I prefaced in my last review that I made the mistake of not going to the dentist for a long time - granted, I didn't have insurance for 6 months and then the moment I got insurance, covid happened and I got scared. But still, it's reasonable I had a ton of build up/tartar/gum disease and definitely a wake up call for me. At the last dentist, I was told immediately I needed a root and scaling/deep clean without them even doing the measurement thing on my gums, just x-rays. They did the root and scale on my right side but not my left (only one is done at a time), which has left me weeks later with angry miserable gums, gaps in my teeth I didn't prior have, and cost me $500 out of pocket. When I got to Dr. Hoang, she actually took her time examining my x-rays, my gums, and my mouth to find that 1) the deep clean didn't even deep clean, as I still had a bunch of tartar making my gums even more unhappy and 2) my gums weren't as bad as I had thought, and I didn't even need to do a root and scaling/deep clean on the left side. If I had gone to Dr. Hoang in the first place, I wouldn't be still miserable, with ugly and uncomfortable gaps in my teeth that I literally struggle to talk and eat with, and wouldn't be out $500 as all she did was a regular cleaning for me on the left. My biggest disappointment is I didn't go to her first. On top of that she's super sweet, lets you ask questions, doesn't make you feel bad about your obvious mistakes, and makes sure you fully feel comfortable before she does anything. Thank you so much for restoring my faith in dentistry. The practice is also great!!! Sallie from reception was very pleasant over the phone and email, and I'm not sure if it was her or a different receptionist at the front today, but she was great too. Everyone is wearing masks and taking Covid very seriously. They sent out a covid form the night before and took my temperature when I arrived. And...... last thing, they were playing Death Cab for Cutie when I walked in. As a born and raised Seattleite, this made me so happy :)

When I followed up via email regarding my review below, Dr. Nasseh contacted me within an hour to discuss what happened with the other dentist. She calmly and empathetically listened to my concerns and the problem at hand. She made sure I received x-rays from my son's previous appointment, and offered for me to meet with her in person to discuss and review. During our meeting, she went over everything thoroughly. It's clear she cares immensely about her practice and services provided to the community. I saw a positive difference in how appointments were handled while I was there. If every appointment was like the one during our meeting, there never would have been an issue in the first place. Original post: Front staff are always friendly and helpful. However, I have an issue with the dentist in the Park Slope location who saw my son today. I contacted the office because my child had a tooth growing in on top of another top (see attached picture). I had to wait outside the exam room because there is no space for parents. The dentist told me he's extracting two teeth today, so I said "Well, I would like you to look at the teeth first before just assuming they need to be extracted." He became very rude and dismissive stating that's what the evaluation says (referring a picture I had to send with the Google form they requested I complete). Told him if they need to be extracted, that's fine and what I figured but wanted my son examined first. He spent two seconds looking at my son's teeth then confirmed the two teeth needed to be extracted. I said okay, and he proceeded. Afterwards, I asked about the teeth, thinking it was the tooth already there and the tooth growing in over it. He cut me off and said they were both baby teeth. I trusted what he said and we left. As we got home, my son said the dentist took a tooth from each side of his mouth. I was very confused because we never mentioned or sent pictures of anything but the two teeth on his left side. I called and spoke to the dentist directly, who continued to be rude and said we discussed two teeth being extracted. Told him I only discussed and sent a picture of the left side of his mouth, so why would I think anything other than the tooth already in place and the one growing over it was being removed. I wanted to confirm that the other side actually needed to be taken because my son said he never saw or felt an issue. The dentist was patronizing asking if I understood now and they can do better to communicate going forward. This is unacceptable. I cannot trust that this other tooth actually needed to be extracted because x-rays were not taken today. Nothing at the last routine appointment was mentioned from that visit about his teeth growing in over another tooth (x-rays were taken). He was seen within the last two months. I'm already frustrated with this office with canceling, last-minute, appointments scheduled months in advance. I do not require a dentist with a great "bedside manner", but I expect clear communication and respect.
