Absolutely fantastic dental practice for the entire family. My kids have been coming to Brownstone for years, and I was excited to find out recently that despite their name, they see adults as well. Unlike other dental practices out there, Brownstone doesn't try to upsell their patients on costly and unnecessary work. When they're seeing you, it feels like they're there for your oral health and not looking at your mouth like it's a bag of money. In an industry unfortunately full of untrustworthy and greedy dental providers, Brownstone really stands out in the best way. Plus, their dentists and staff are all great with kids. Beware! Here is my experience with Brownstone. I went in 2014 and my son had a cavity filled. Dr Cormac was knowledgable and great with kids but their accounting practice is extremely suspect. Perhaps they sent the bill to process through insurance at that time, but I never received any communication from the dentist, except for a couple of notices that my son was "due for his checkup" in 2015. I have been at the same address, phone number, and email address since then, and the other day I received a bill, FIVE YEARS LATER, for $2,138 for the filling / checkup. When I called, they said they changed their computer system, and that's what the filling and checkup cost. This is not an okay way to run a business, Dr Cormac. My husband and I BOTH arranged to leave work early to take our 3-year old to a dentist's appointment today at Brownstone Pediatric Dentistry. When I made the appointment over a month ago, the woman who took the appointment on the phone asked what insurance I have (Cigna), and I told her. She said that they took that insurance and to come on in. Fast forward to ten minutes ago when I'm told that they do NOT take the type of insurance I have (it's some PPO vs. HMO discrepancy). So we got our 3 year old early from school to come down here and basically be turned away because the person who makes appointments either doesn't know what they are doing or doesn't care. When I asked the women at the desk why I wasn't told this before making the appointment, they had no good answer. I left and called back to discuss it further with someone hopefully in charge and was speaking to someone who said, "Uh, hold on," placed me on hold, and no one ever came to the phone. Hence the angry Yelp review. Parents--please make sure you have everything in order and REALLY can go to this dentist before taking off work and getting your little ones here. This was my six year old's first visit to a dentist and we are glad to have found Dr. Cormac after reading reviews online. My son's six year molars were erupting and starting to make their way up, the process was causing discomfort for him, including mild pain, we wanted to make sure all was well. Like many parents, there was much trepidation taking a child to the dentist for the first time. My son was more concerned about whether or not he will experience any pain, I was not quite sure how to address his concerns. It was a sigh of relief when Dr. Cormac first spoke to us. He was truly made for working with little kids, he was easily able to gain trust from my son. He was able to explain the process in a way that did not cause anxiety in both of us. The entire checkup, which included cleaning teeth and addressing our concerns was smooth and painless. He was able to explain to mom how teeth eruption works and was able to relate his explanation to x-ray pictures. Our concerns were fully addressed. When you first walk into the office, you will notice that it is bright and inviting, exactly what kids need. The reception area looks a little like a kids playroom, there is a television as well, which at the time of our visit played a kids animated movie. When you make your way to the examination rooms, you will notice the ambiance is maintained throughout. The place is splashed with kids' art on their walls. I noted 3 examination rooms, each named after a color. My son was in the 'purple' room for his exam and he loved it. In the room, right above the reclining examination chair/bed, there is a television screen. I thought this was a great addition, my child enjoyed watching a movie while they were busy with his teeth. The space is very clean. They had their target client in mind when they designed the interior of this place, very appealing to kids I would imagine. The staff was very friendly when we walked in. The paperwork was easy to complete and the wait time was short as well. The staff were able to relate well to my son, assuring him that the process will be seamless and it was. I highly recommend this place, we will definitely be staying with them. My son left looking forward to his next dentist's appointment. read more

Dr. MacDermott was HORRIBLE with my daughter. My daughter loves going to her regular dentist, but her regular dentist referred us to Dr. MacDermott for a specific cavity fill. He was rough and rude to my daughter, and tried to get us to force us to make him our primary dentist. We will never go back there. The front desk is a total disaster. I've been trying to collect back the overcharged amount for 2 months, and they continue to give me the runaround. read more

Got a referral from my pediatrician and called to make an emergency visit for my child who seemed to have a compacted tooth and was in pain. Wasn't able to get a same day appointment, but later in the week. Extremely nice and patient staff, clean office and really child-centric. The dentist came in and diagnosed all of my child's teeth issues after a quick but thorough exam and X-rays and came up with a plan of action. I wish he saw adults- lol! The only issues I have is scheduling, and that's because they are so good that they are booked and the location isn't good for parking. We love Dr. Cormac and his staff. Every time my kids have an appointment, Dr. Cormac makes a point of saying hello to all of us. He is kind and patient. He makes my kids feel special, safe and dare I say, happy. Pretty great for a dentist! During their visit, Dr. Cormac explains everything he's doing clearly so they always know what's coming next. I first found this practice last year and I couldn't be more pleased. It was both of my children's (then 5 and 2) first time at the dentist. Both the hygienist and dentist (not Dr. MacDermott for that appointment) explained what they were doing as they went along. We got to finally meet Dr MacDermott at their second appointment and he was very warm and friendly. I like that they are able to take emergencies same-day; my son knocked out an already loose baby tooth back in May and we were told to come in to make sure the whole tooth came out. They also are able to deal with kids with disabilities/disorders with gentleness and kindness (my oldest has ASD) The entire staff is knowledgeable and non judgemental. The only downside is the waiting area is rather small. Gets pretty cramped if they have several patients and parents waiting. The kids never mind though, what with the toys, books and chalkboard to keep them occupied. This place is a gem. I wish it was around when I was a child. P.S. Don't forget to ask the receptionist to run the train! All the kids love it. read more

The dentist and the staff are great, but what annoyed me was when i received a bill for "uncovered expenses." We were charged for "nutritional counseling" which was the dentist asking us if our son has a balanced diet? Also charged for "Hygiene instruction" which was the hygienist doing her job and explaining the proper way to brush teeth. For the life of me i don't understand why this is not part of basic office visit. The kicker was we were charged $37 for someone in the office to take a photo of my sons smile with a regular camera, you have got be kidding me. If they dont change their ways of "nickel and diming" we will not be back. read more

We were referred to Dr. Cormac by Tribeca Pediatric Dentistry because my 3 YO son had more cavities than you can count on 2 hands. Because of the number of cavities that needed to be fixed and considering his young age, it was recommended that he be sedated/anesthetized. As you can imagine, I had feelings of trepidation and unease. Fortunately, we were in good hands with Dr. Cormac and his team. He is a consummate professional. He's an expert in his field, kind, approachable, and transparent. More importantly, he doesn't bite off more than he can chew. By this I mean, he uses the services of Dr. Jason Joseph, an anesthesiologist. Dr. Joseph is great with kids, puts them at ease before the procedure, and does his job right - which is to keep the patient alive! Excellent teamwork by Dr. Cormac and Dr. Joseph! read more

There are things and people in life that you would never change. You feel so strongly about these things/people that one day you might be compelled to write a review on Yielp and let the world know how you feel about them. This is how I feel about Dr Cormac. My three year old daughter had very bad teeth (the condition was not inherited as her dad and I do not share this condition). When she was two years old, we walked into the office of Tribeca Pediatrics for the first time and she had to have two cavities worked on. Dr Roula Tsolis, whom was pregnant at the time, treated each cavity on two separate appointments and went on maternity leave a few months later. In the interim, not knowing whom would replace Dr Tsolis, we looked for another dentist. We stumbled upon Dr Zamani in Battery Park City -closer to our home. It was like I was stabbed in the heart every time our daughter had to get a tooth worked on in the Battery Park City dental office. The screaming, the lengthy process, the unadapted chairs, having her restrained and sedated every time: it all felt wrong. In fact, I was getting stressed hours prior to our dental visits and I was still shaking hours after the procedure was over - I came out of the dental practice on our last visit saying that I could no longer endure it. Needless to say, I moved on from this situation pretty fast. Eventually, Elea and I came back to Tribeca Pediatric Dentistry and made an appointment with Doctor Cormac: it was the best move we could have ever made. After this first appointment with Dr Cormac, I knew I would never look for a pediatric dentist again: all three of the teeth that now needed working on, were treated in one go (not one at a time). I was so purely grateful, that I gave doctor Cormac a heartfelt "Thank you" which put me on the verge of tears. Dr Cormac's skills are far superior to his competition. He has worked with the Red Cross in Africa with limited means and will not hesitate to sit face to face with me, put a pillow on his lap and have my daughter straddle me while she lays her head back on the pillow, and he will be done with treating three cavities in less than 15 minutes. I wish I felt so strongly and so positively about every professional that I am finding myself having to work with. Unfortunately, even my pediatrician is not that good. Dr Cormac is a gift. A gift of professionalism, a gift of lightened worries and a gift of pure gratitude. PS: I never went to the Brownstone location that Dr Cormac usually works out of but since he is the main dentist there, I believe this review does apply. It really is not about the offices that he works out of but about him as a truly exceptional dentist. read more

Hands down the best pediatric dentist and practice not only in Brooklyn, but likely the whole city! In 2.5 short years, "Dr. Mac" has filled 6 cavities for my skeptical 4.5 year old daughter (who has some enamel issues); advised us on a torn ligament in one of her front teeth (we called and Heather immediately made room in the schedule that same day); and taken on my just-barely-two year old very precocious younger daughter for her first cleaning. We are moving to Los Angeles in a few months and he photocopied 2 pages of pediatric dentist listings out there for us. We will miss having such a fantastic dentist, staff and overall experience. read more

We love Dr Cormac and the team at Brownstone! We first went there for an emergency visit two years ago. They were recommended by a coworker and, with my crying son in the background, mouth still bleeding, I frantically called the office at 6pm. Dr Cormac agreed to stay late to see us! He and the staff are very welcoming. He is a very calming presence and explains everything in detail and in a way you understand. He is thorough, making sure you know the prognosis, timeline, next steps, everything. Because if the type of injury, we ended up back at the office several times over the course of a few months and eventually Dr Cormac had to pull one tooth and fix the other. As nervous as we were as parents, Dr Cormac really set our minds at ease and made the process as smooth as possible. The work on the tooth we were able to save is beautiful. I literally almost cried tears of joy!! I made an appointment with Dr. Cormac to get a second opinion on how to treat my 3 year old son's cavities after being told he would need oral sedation by the previous dentist. Dr. Cormac was so gentle and soft spoken and immediately established a good rapport with my shy 3 year old. He gave me 5 options, as a parent I felt a huge sigh of relief. I am happy I followed my gut and did not go through with the previous dentist's recommendation to sedate my son. Dr. Cormac advised us to treat the cavities with laughing gas only and the procedure could not have gone smoother. My husband and I were both in the room with him during the procedure. He picked a movie to watch while the doctor filled his cavities. My son did not flinch and remained calm and relaxed the entire time, which only took about 15 minutes! After the procedure the Dr. mentioned he may feel some discomfort but it will go away quickly. My son did not have any complaints and I am so relieved that we did not have to medicate him. read more
