    Spanakopita Mezze Platter
    Laura I.

First thoughts- nice atmosphere. Seating is on the second floor. Was very surprised if there was only one waiter on a Saturday evening. He did do a great job. Restaurant was not very busy.. We ordered the Mezze platter and Spanakopita. VERY disappointed in the baba ganoush and hummus- both were flavorless and not good. Taziki was ok. There are no fresh figs on the platter (as stated on the menu), which I was looking forward to.. The top layer of the Spanakopita was cooked but the layers underneath were still doughy. If it was cooked correctly, this dish would've been very delicious. We decided to split the chef special which was a chicken breast with a tarragon, cream sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, and asparagus ($30). The dish itself was very good. However, the portion was VERY SMALL with only half of a small chicken breast pounded thin with no other accompaniments. My husband and I left there spending just under $90 and hungry. There's too many restaurants in Skippack to choose from and became of this experience we probably won't be back unless quality and quantity change. ***Note majority of the searing is up a large flight of stairs. Only a couple tables on the ground level. Would highly recommend reservations !!

It's a very cute place to sit inside and outside, but it took awhile for the food to come out and they weren't very busy. The food was good but nothing outstanding for the price they are charging. We also got the mezze appetizer which was good but again overpriced and I wish the pita was fluffier.

My fiancé and I had dinner here for the first time tonight to celebrate his birthday. He had the Bronzino and I had the Salmon and we were both very happy with our meals. The service was great and the restaurant was nice inside. Most tables are up on the second floor in what appears to be an old barn. We will definitely be back!

    Halibut!

This is a hidden BYOB gem in Skippack. We had 2 appetizers - falafel and grilled shrimp. They had a halibut special as an entree which was amazing. We finally finished the night with a great chocolate dessert. Highly recommend going to Calypso for dinner.

The food was out of this world! The hummus from the trio dip appetizer was my favorite- I think I'd get the all hummus appetizer instead. The feta chicken was so creamy and flavorful, I loved it! The orzo was seasoned so well, it was probably the best orzo I've eaten. And the chicken from the skewer was delicious! I couldn't choose which chicken I loved more! The service was super quick and friendly. I loved that the restaurant was BYOB. And the restaurant had a cute vibe, quiet and peaceful, and you could see the kitchen from where you enter...which I really like in a restaurant. I love transparency! The outdoor area is also very nice! Perfect for summer weather.

The lamb shank is my favorite dish there! The orzo side is seasoned perfectly. Nice place for a night out with friends.

The food was ok. The hummus appetizer wasn't worth it. The beef kababs were tough and bland. The service was ok.

I'm providing this honest review as a constructive feedback for improvement…read more We came across this place online but were only able to try it recently...I was honestly disappointed by many things: First, when a place advertises shawarma meat and posts videos of the famous Lebanese shawarma revolving cone that grills the marinated meat as the cone turns, you would expect that the shawarma plate you order is an authentic shawarma meat cut off the shawarma cone...unfortunately, this was not the case at cafe baladi. I respect the owner who's advertising authentic homemade Lebanese food but the shawarma meat we got was not an authentic shawarma meat...this was meat that was cooked either in a pan or in the oven and was not tender because it was not probably marinated and it's not grilled on the shawarma cone. Placed that have the famous shawarma cone you can usually see in the restaurant either behind the counter or through a window in the back - this was not the case. Second the plate included the choice of hummus or baba ghannouj and tabbouleh...we picked baba ghannouj and we got the tabbouleh...again, the baba ghannouj did not taste at all authentic nor homemade...it tasted like the baba ghannouj in a conserved can that you find in grocery stores. Authentic baba ghannouj is made from grilled eggplant tahini lemon juice and salt. Third, the Lebanese tabboule is made from finely chopped vegetables (parsley, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, and burgul). Unfortunately again this tabbouleh was not finely chopped and it lacked the burgul. We were really disappointed. The only positive thing was that the service was quick.

I was pleasantly surprised by this spot. It sits in a strip mall and from the outside doesn't look…read morelike much, but the inside is modern, warm, and inviting. I started off with their spinach pie. It was what I would describe as a roll studded with sauteed spinach and onions and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. When asking the waitress, I asked if it would be similar to spanakopita, she said it was, but the heavy doughy bread was not really what I had hoped for or expected. Was it good, yes. Would I order it again, no. For my main I went with the Lamb Kebab in Pita. Grilled lamb, lettuce, tomato, parsley, onions, and a light hummus spread. The lamb was a little chewy but the flavors of the fresh vegetables and the seasoned lamb blended well together. I am not always the biggest fan of hummus and find that it tends to be too gritty for my texture pallet. However, this spread was mixed with a creamy sauce of some kind that really brought out the flavor without that grittiness that you sometimes find in hummus. The food came out fast, from the time we sat down till we finished our food it was just under an hour. So overall a good experience. When it came time to pay, we never received an itemized bill, we were just given a total. Later on, doing the math, we found that for the two bills at our table, both were considerably different than the prices listed on the menu, even after adding on the standard 6% tax. Based on the differences, we can only assume that the prices listed on the menu and website are no longer the actual price of the meal. Or, both our bills just happened to be messed up. We can't really say. But that alone for me changed this from a 5 star experience to a 3. The Grill is listed as a 5.2 currently on my Beli, and again, for me I do not like transparency on pricing or total charges but the food itself and the ambiance is a really nice experience.
