YUMM!
Jim M.

Our Lions Club meets at the Kaufman House twice a month. Tonite for dessert we had Chocolate Chocolate Cake with mint icing (for St. Patricks Day) and a side of French vanilla ice cream , with a swirl of chocolate syrup. I took a picture before devouring!

Full Rack of ribs

Definitely a hidden gem! We have been here several times and the food exceeds our expectations every time. I had the ribs which were tender with excellent flavor while my wife had the stuffed chicken breast..yum!!!

These are the lunch bunch gals at the Francis Kaufman House in Sumneytown. We had a wonderful lunch with great conversation.

WOW! First visit this evening. Maize is a small very intimate venue. The mode is prix fixe. There…read moreis an open view of the kitchen and the small but highly skilled culinary team. The dining area seats no more than 24 and is expertly managed by Carl. Things started with a delightful amuse buoche. Ours was a bite of bison brisket on an herbed crema. Then came a hot from the oven biscuit. The fish course was roasted grouper perfectly prepared and plated. Next up was sautéed shrimp on a vanilla sweet corn sauce with roasted okra. Then came seared rare slices of NY strip with broccoli rabe, scalloped potatoes, and steamed albino beans. A scoop of watermelon sorbet to cleanse the palette was followed by a desert of peach bread pudding with blueberry compote and crème freche. Mauser is a fine example of the difference between merely eating and fine dining.

Service was friendly, professional, and attentive. The dining room was warm and comfortable. And the food? We loved the succession of bites and plates. Everything was delicious and nicely presented. The chef and his team are focused on and really care about the details. In terms of the overall experience, Maize was at least as good as fancy, super-pricey Philly restaurants like Lark. We'll definitely be back!

I was searching for a good happy hour special and came across Trouble's End Brewing. We headed…read moreupstairs to the second floor and were welcomed and seated quickly with our children. Everything was great from the atmosphere, food, service, and prices. We went for their half off wings. The wings were delicious! Fried perfectly and juicy inside with a great honey Sriracha sauce. A very underrated item is their delicious fries. They have a great selection of house drafts and specials every day for both happy hour and daily specials. I will definitely be returning for more of their specials. I have my eye on their burgers!

However the restaurant is tucked away on the second floor of a shopping center, and the seating is not ideal. The acoustics made it difficult to hear the server and my dinner companions, and this was before the live music began (which was setting up in the dining area as we ate). I was pleasantly surprised by the food, and everyone seemed cheerful and welcoming. But the restaurant was too chaotic to have any semblance of a meaningful conversation. I had to shout across the table to be heard. I may come back to enjoy a beverage and listen to a band, but I would never bring a date to this location if I had any expectation of enjoying each other's company. And that's really a shame: the food and location are excellent.

We really liked the atmosphere too. We ate the aracinis for an appetizer and for entrees we had the short rib pasta and the salmon. We would definitely come back. The one suggestion I have though is to have at least one high chair on hand. Our three year old could manage on the normal chairs but the table was a little high for her.

But then when I was looking up their burger week menu I came across the valentines menu and it looked good, so I figured I would give it try. My husband's dinner was alot better than mine so I was eating some of his, even though we always share anyway. He got the oysters with a dragonfruit sauce and they were good. I ordered crab and corn soup with grilled focaccia bread. The soup itself was fine , but it was only half a bowl and not much crab in it. I would have liked more soup instead of the bread. I gave the bread to my husband because we got a good amount of bread for the appetizer and I didn't want to fill up too much. I probably should have ordered the calamari instead , that looked pretty good. My husband's scallops with risotto was very good. Seared perfectly, creamy risotto, good flavor. Normally that is what I like to order, but I got the crab pasta because I love crab. I was disappointed In this dish. The crab tasted a little too fishy like it went bad or something. I also got a number of shells in the crab I had to spit out. I feel like they could have mixed the crab with some kind of seasoning or flavors. It seemed like they just dumped the crab right out of the can into the pasta and didn't even clean the shells out first. And they didn't even put the pasta in any kind of sauce. I would have liked maybe a creamy sauce with it. The pasta was just in like a watery garlic broth, and it broke apart and crab went all in the water and I didn't even have a spoon to pick it up. Dessert was ok. I'm glad we got the dragonfruit cheesecake instead of the chocolate cake, it was refreshing . The tiramisu wasn't bad but it was still somewhat frozen. I was kind of surprised because we are fans of the Pieri group restaurants. We have been to their sister restaurant Stonerose for burger week for a number of years now and love it. We also came to burger week at bar sera the one year and really enjoyed theirs too. I wish they did them separate weeks so we could go to both . Maybe it was just an off night tonite. Sometimes valentines menus aren't as good as their regular menu. Maybe we learned our lesson to go out the week before valentines instead for next year.
