We've dined in twice in the last few days and loved both meals. My wife got a half pound of boiled shrimp with mild garlic butter. I went with a small roast beef & gravy and a small 2 piece fried boudin balls....our second visit the following day involved us devouring a small bowl of mixed gumbo.....you can 3 different sizes.... and a bowl of crawfish etoufe and an amazing fried crawfish pie with remoulade sauce. Great food and service.

I had the grilled shrimp platter. It was really good. A couple of the shrimp were slightly overcooked, but not enough to be upset. The accompanying vegetables were awesome. The plain old slice of bread seemed kind of random--maybe try serving it as garlic butter toast?Overall good value for the price: the platter and a drink were around $16-17. I will definitely return here.

Regular Mixed Gumbo

Second time grabbing food from here. Always great. Portion sizes are good. First time I ordered 2pc fish and shrimp with mixed rice. Fish pieces were huge. My wife and I could have ate from one plate. The boudin egg rolls were also really great fried rice had shrimp, sausage, and crawfish in it This time around wife ordered a shrimp po-boy bread was crisp on the outside side and soft on the inside shrimp tasted great and the fries were crispy and airy. I ordered the regular sized po-boy and again portion size was big. Basically ordered two 6in subs. I ordered shrimp suicide box. Very flavorful cake with corn a potato and a boiled egg. The sauce for the boiled shrimp covered the rice. Making every bite flavorful and spicy. Last time I went they had ran out of gumbo but was able to lock some in this go around and it did not disappoint! Service has always been great. The lady that took my order both time was very friendly and very helpful

Shrimp poboy

As someone who is originally from New Orleans, I can happily say that Calliope's has some of the best, most authentic poboys that you will find in Houston! The fries are also pretty good. My friend tried the boudin balls and she said they were fresh and flavorful. The only reason why I give them 4 stars is because the daiquiri that I had was not the best. I would like to try something different the next time I go but the poboys are my favorite.

Seafood gumbo

This is my to go spot when I want a poboy and gumbo. The fried shrimp poboy and seafood gumbo are my favorite from the menu! I also like the seasoning options for the seafood boil. The service is always great and the food is always hot and delicious

Loaded gumbo

Not enough words to explain how delicious this poboy was today. I use to go to cafe dú mond for my poboys but after today, that's a no no. The sauce they put on it just took it to a whole new level (u have to request the sauce) I got it on the side to sample it and wound up putting it all over..so fresh and delicious. Generous amount of shrimp . Beyond satisfying.

Crawfish
Amber W.

So glad we tried this place. The food is hot and fresh! The gumbo is really good and the crawfish boil was perfectly seasoned.

Crawfish and Shrimp Etouffe
Tyson P.

Original Wings 3/5. Bland, no flavor. Surf & Turf Poboy 3/5. Average, shrimp + roastbeef. Seafood Gumbo 5/5 . Crawfish and Shrimp Etouffe 5/5 (Surprising this was best item) Crawfish Eggroll 4/5. Overall, was hoping poboy would be better. We could tell shrimp wasn't local and taste like imported shrimp. Only two items worth coming back for is Seafood Gumbo and Etouffe. Still think Sleepy's Poboy is more authentic New Orleans style.

Food was really good. Closest poboy to going back to New Orleans. Taking my uncle here today to get us a taste of home.

Very disappointing, definitely not real Louisiana food. Gumbo like stew. Seafood is not fresh, wish I had a better comment.

The food was good but my order was wrong. I ordered a crawfish poboy and I got a catfish poboy. It was good but not what I wanted.

Michael, the owner, greeted us and took care of us! We started with the Jumbo Crab Fingers which were really good - I'm honestly not huge on seafood, so I enjoyed these a lot more than I thought I would. Ironically, I'm not big on oysters either, so I ordered the Jumbo Golden Fried Shrimp which hit the spot real good. Large shrimp, well fried, flavored, and the tartar sauce was addicting. The fries that came with it were perfectly seasoned, carrying a bit more of a cajun flavor rather than just regularly salted. My parents definitely enjoy oysters, so they ordered the Charbroiled Oysters and really enjoyed it, as well as the Uni Oyster with Quail Egg. They also got the Cowboy Lobster Shrimp Roll that was gone before I even took a second look their way. We finished the meal with a yummy, dense basque cheesecake! Every customer that came in during our time there was personally greeted by Michael, and it seemed like they were all repeat customers. It was really cool to see that kind of connection, and it really showed how much Michael cares about his customers, and how much we like his food! Indoor seating is a bit limited - all bar stool seating. I rarely comment on the music that a restaurant plays, but I quite liked it! Made me feel like I was on the bay enjoying some fresh seafood at sunset. Heard they'll be opening up their newest location at POST soon!

I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo costing $5.25 for a cup to start. Following that was my entree of the stuffed snapper for $16. The cup of gumbo had large pieces of chicken, sausage and veggies in it. I thought it tasted good (3.5) and had it been a bowl of it could have made for a meal by itself. The snapper fillet had shrimp, crawfish and mushrooms bathed in a wine sauce and came with dirty rice and some sautéed vegetables. This plate was good tasting too (3.5). I am giving a 4 score here because while the food didn't wow me it was definitely acceptable and the menu prices are at 2010 levels making everything very, very affordable. I would be happy to return.

Their menu consists of apps (mostly fried), soups and salads, lobster dishes, steaks, vietnamese seafood dishes, shellfish entrees (clams, scallops, etc), an oyster section, stir fry dishes, rice creations, and fried seafood dishes. They serve beer and wine but have some Asian wine-based cocktails. This is truly a fusion restaurant since they have Vietnamese, American, Chinese, Thai, and Peruvian influences on their menu. They have boiled seafood, of course, including crawfish during the season. On every table is also a $12.95 lunch menu with soups, sandwiches and seafood dishes. This may be one of the better deals out there. We tried a few dishes: drunken lobster, surf and turf, crab fried rice, drunken tofu, and shrimp with salted egg. Two additional people in our group came a little later and actually ordered the lunch special (pork chop plate) and chicken wings. Their napkins are a little strange as they're tri-fold style like you would normally see in a restroom. The dishes were pretty good, but I ended up eating mostly noodles since their garlic noodles are pretty addicting. The sirloin that came on the steak dish was supposedly a little tough but that is typical of a basic sirloin steak. I didn't actually get to sample it since other people grabbed it before I could. They only had L and XL size lobster the day we came...so they said their prices were around $90 and $108...I think we selected the $90 size. The drunken lobster dish can be shared between 2 people as it's a big platter but just 1 cut up lobster. The garlic noodles beneath the lobster pieces on the drunken lobster are way better than the noodles beneath the shrimp and steak on the surf and turf since they are stir-fried with lots of onions, jalapeños and what seemed to be small ground pork/beef chunks.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same about dinner. We really enjoyed the beautiful voices and live music, but the volume was simply too loud for the size of the space, making it difficult to have a conversation. The dinner prices were on the higher side, but not unreasonable. However, the portions were relatively small and, in my opinion, didn't quite justify the price. As an example, $18 for 3 shrimps that were not even fresh.. Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere and entertainment. With a little adjustment to the music volume and more generous dinner portions and food quality, this could be an even better dining experience. Most importantly, I'd focusing more on the objective of creating customers and keep them...

I chose the all you can eat for $45 each person which includes most of the seafood you would include in a seafood boil except for the crab legs. SEAFOOD BOIL SEASONINGS You can choose your type of spicy flavor and level I chose the house sauce and medium and it was just perfect! Not too spicy or too mild just enough for you to enjoy. Also, note that the house special sauce is very saucy and covered all over so if you do not like saucy crawfish try the Nola flavor. There were two of us, and we waited over 20 minutes for a table. I counted six empty tables while we waited, which was about a third of the restaurant that was open for seating. I also felt really uncomfortable while we were waiting, almost like we weren't welcome. I can't explain exactly why, but it was a strange feeling. We actually considered leaving. The only reason we stayed was because I'd really been wanting to try this place. We were starving by the time we were sat so we tried the snack bar. Most of the food tasted okay, but since it was later in the evening, some of it didn't seem very fresh. One thing that surprised me was the sesame balls. Those were actually much better than I expected! We ordered a couple of appetizers and split the Snow Crab Combo B. Appetizers: Hush Puppies: I really liked these! They were seasoned well and fried perfectly. Cajun Edamame: This was edamame tossed in their homemade Cajun sauce. It was my first taste of their sauce, and while I wasn't a huge fan, I didn't hate it either. Snow Crab Combo B: The combo comes with two snow crab clusters, 1 lb of head-on shrimp, 1 lb of black mussels, two pieces of corn, two potatoes, two boiled eggs, and sausage. Snow Crab: Cooked really well, and the meat was easy to get out of the shell. Head-On Shrimp: My least favorite part of the combo. I don't like shrimp that hasn't been cleaned properly. I'm not sure if that's just how head-on shrimp is typically served, but if it is, it's just not for me. I only ate one and couldn't eat any more because it was so gritty. Black Mussels: My favorite thing in the entire combo! I ate more of these than anything else. Corn, Potatoes, and Eggs: The corn was good. I didn't try the potatoes or eggs, so I can't comment on those. Sausage: Nope! Didn't like it at all. Overall: If you've been wanting to try this place, it might still be worth a visit. Everyone's tastes are different, and it seems like a lot of people like it much better than I did. Between the sauce, the uncomfortable atmosphere, and waiting over 20 minutes while so many tables sat empty, I don't believe I'll go back, I'll stick with seafood boil restaurants where I know I like the sauce that they use.
