I lived one block away from Calling All Pets for a year, and on each visit the staff was courteous and helpful, and I never really gave them the reason to go beyond the call of duty. Since most of the time I was going to get cheap doggy poo bags, this is to be understood. Sadly, as I was preparing to leave the Upper East Side is when I found out how awesome they really are. One of my dogs was stressed by the move, and to show her stress, started peeing in the apartment... constantly. While I hated to put her in a crate, I thought perhaps that would give her a place to be comfortable, and secure. I gave Calling All Pets a phone call to inquire about a small crate, and the lady went to check their stock. When she came back, she explained they didn't have a crate for my pug, but would gladly loan me one until I found one to buy, or didn't need it. No charge, no deposit, nothing. They just wanted to help me out! When I picked up the crate, I explained what was happening, and the staff immediately recognized the issue (stress) and started offering suggestions. They even helped me pick out a new doggy bed, and found one that was inexpensive and machine washable. I can only hope that I find a place this awesome in Chelsea, and that this review will help others find Calling All Pets. You won't be disappointed. read more

The two ladies in this store are 'too busy' to price the dog food cans so if I want to decide between several brands I have to ask them how much each is and they have to look it up in the computer. (Or I can bring the cans up to the register for purchase and get sticker shock.) I asked if this practice was because the holiday season 'is upon us' or if they never stamp prices on the product (my first time here) and they said the above. If a business owner doesn't have time to run the business with a nod to customer service than I don't have any business returning ... and I mentioned this when I bought the cans I did buy. read more

A nice store and very helpful people. Prices are lower than Petco on food so why buy from a chain store? They have a very good variety of natural foods too... probably a bigger selection then Petco. I feed my dogs Orijen and Natural Balance Duck. They have both. I have now changed Cheppie and Pitzie's food to Acana which is made by Champion foods (the makers of Orijen). Acana has less protein so it's easier for them to digest. It's rated a 5 star dog food by foodadvisors.com which is a great site to get reviews of the food that you are giving to your dogs. I give them Ranchlands which happens to be around $75 plus tax for 29.7lbs bag. Cheppie and Pitzie love it. read more

My cat got pretty sick all of a sudden after the manufacturer of his dry food changed the formula without clear enough warnings. I popped into Calling All Pets on my way to a nearby class to see if they happened to have a bag of the original formula still in stock. They didn't have it since it was discontinued 3 months ago but the woman I spoke with was so genuinely concerned about my cat that she took me over to the shelf and insisted I take some units of fiber and wet food for my cat to try. That's never happened to me at a big chain store like Petco/PetSmart! There are great people behind this business and that's a good enough reason for me to shop there next time. #shopsmall read more

the best place to get dog food ever!I I've been a loyal customer for a year now, and I must say every time I have a problem coming to pick up my prescription dog food, or an address delivery change, they are so understanding and very helpful. I call at least 10 times to change my mind about something, and they never get upset or frustrated. They have the best employees and are always sweet to my poodle when I get the chance to bring him in. They are very passionate about their jobs and know exactly what they are talking about. Cramped little space with a very sweet staff. Only issue I can see is simply that the space is limited so the amount of product is also limited. Staff is really helpful and great about giving tips on certain dog behaviors as well as little hacks/tips with items around the house to help with eating habits or chewing problems! I always used to shop at their 76th Street store, which was closer to my apartment, but I love them so much that it's no problem going to the York Avenue location. Very nice people and you can always call them to ask if they have something you need. They'll also take your number and give you a call when the product you've asked for arrives. I agree that the staff in person is pretty pleasant, however, they have terrible customer service. On more than one occassion, I was told I'd receive a call back, and did not. Recently, I placed an order for food a week in advance and was told a day before the delivery date that they were unable to place the order. No apologies, that's just the way they operate was the response I got when I questioned why I wasn't notified earlier. You can bet I will NOT be bringing this store anymore business. read more

I love this store and shop here every weekend for pet supplies. As an owner of a dog and also cats, I find everything i need despite the small size of the space. I like the fact that this store is a locally owned small business and the owner is often present when I am shopping. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They offer free delivery in the area and the delivery crew is always professional. I find a natural canned cat food here that I cannot find in the larger box stores. My dog loves this store and tries to pull me inside every time we are walking past, partly because the staff will give her treat samples and they are always talking to her and calling her by name. I find the store to be cluttered in an eclectic and pleasant manner. There is a lovely shop cat who lounges on shelves and there is always a lot of interesting products available for both cats and dogs. This is the best store I have found for dog coats and sweaters. Someone is making a lot of these products for the store and the quality is amazing. I also found when comparing prices that the prices are excellent for dog coats and sweaters. There are frequent sales and sale bins in this store. My dog wears a winter coat i acquired here and it is so adorable, people stop me on the street to ask where i got it or make a comment about how cute she is in her coat. She resembles a canine version of Sherlock Holms and it is adorable. I enjoy supporting a small neighborhood business and this store is absolutely a pleasure to visit. The store is deceptively small-it actually has lots in stock (I'm a cat owner) and the salespeople are personable and very helpful too! Every time I've been there and wasn't completely sure what to get, there was someone to suggest different options. So far so good...I've never been disappointed. I also love it when a salesperson recommends something I didn't know about. At this place, you will not hear "You absolutely must have this product!" People will simply share their opinion based on personal experience and customer feedback. This is how I discovered the best catnip ever! This place is by far NOT the closest to my place, yet the only one I go to. The staff is super friendly, they deliver and the delivery guys are always very professional and helpful. They have a large inventory and will even recommend stuff to SAVE you money (yes folks, honest business's still exist).One time they were even out of stock of my normal cat food but mentioned they get some in later and will just deliver it when it comes in. I called a few big box stores to get a delivery set up but no one carried all the items he used including a hard to find holistic brand of dry food. I went in here the day I was bringing home my new puppy--I had no supplies and needed it fast. The 2 ladies who run the store were super helpful, taking time to make sure I had everything I needed, and also helped me make good choices so I didn't break the bank. (At one point she suggested I put one of the toys I had picked out back and wait to buy more after seeing what my puppy liked--clearly not trying to rip me off). This is a GREAT pet store. Recommended to me by a colleague that has been going there for years. I ordered over the phone and tried out some new canned food for my dog. The store delivers and I received the food same day. My dog ended up not liking the new food, and the store came over to do the exchange, picked up the old food and dropped off some new stuff to try.
