Disclaimer: I have no relationship with shop, owner, former customers, community, friends, etc - I found it online as it is nearby, mostly good reviews, and good price noted, no appointments needed, and seemed no frills so thought I would give them a try. That being said.... I got my smog check today and it was super fast (well, no one was there too --- the owner said 15 minutes and it was 15 minutes). Awesome price, clean place, professional, and legit. I have a 15 year old mid size sedan (model with most sales in the USA each year). MAKE SURE YOU GET THE COUPON FROM THEIR WEBSITE OR ITS HERE ON YELP. It was $29 plus certificate so $38 in total. My local shop was $60 and appointment needed. No appointment was needed here. Note that it depends on your vehicle type, age, etc. Just a good experience, and nothing bad. Most importantly, it passed. Note that as they advertise, this is a test only shop so no motivation to make repairs --- this seems like a good thing. Within an hour I estimate, the results were transmitted to the DMV and I renewed online. RECOMMEND YOU BRING YOUR DMV RENEWAL NOTICE as he can scan the barcode to save time. read more

Went in for a smog check. The guy working there plugged in the scanner first and realized it wasn't going to pass within two minutes. I was prepared to be a little upset but pay the full price and he waived it completely. Gave me a referral to a good mechanic that can give a more in depth diagnosis (after I asked for one, definitely wasn't being sketchy trying to drive business to a friend). With everyone out to make a buck it was nice to run into someone who recognizes that customer satisfaction will make more money in the long run then trying to milk every penny. Will definitely go back here and recommend to others. While he wouldn't have been wrong to charge, the gesture of waiving it earned a loyal customer! read more

I called and got an appointment for a Saturday, which most places in Oceanside are closed...and got the time slot I wanted. I was in and out as promised...they were a little busy but my appointment time was kept and the owner professional. I would definitely recommend this business. This place is good to go in my book. I brought two cars here to be Smogged, first one no wait, the second one a few days later. The guy told me it would be hour wait, so I decided to come back on Monday as I had coupon. Monday, go in the owner helps me, I tell him I need to smog my car. Asks the year, I say 2013, he asks why am I smogging, told him for registration (I am new to California and thought I had to smog each year). He tells me, I do not need to smog as it is every other year or longer depending on what DMV says, so I leave. While sitting at the DMV, I start to think about my other car it was 2003. I ask the DMV if my 2003 needed to be smogged they said no. Now, I am upset as when I went to smog center, when I brought in my 2003, I specifically asked the employee if I needed it smogged for registration and he said yes, every year. So, back to Californai Smog Center, I walk in and the owner recognized me from the day prior. I told him what happened, I told him, brought in my 2003 for smog to renew my registration and the employee smogged it even though not required. We discussed how I did not bring my California DMV renewal paperwork in as then they would not have smogged it. But at the same time, I recalled them telling me they will look it up via my plate or vin. Owner said just a simple misunderstanding and refunded me my money. This shows he is a real stand up guy. I will bring my vehicles back here when they need to be smogged again in a few years (how ever California does their crazy smog check requirments). I would also recommend coming here, no appointment needed. Plus they have coupon which makes it probably the cheapest place in town from what I could find. read more

Great experience!!! I got to this place about 30 min before they close only for them to tell me that they close soon and have cars in front of me. They suggested i come back a different day... my only dilemma was, that day was the only day i had available to get my car smogged for registration...so I needed it done. I really like going to a place where I can watch what's going on with my vehicle. That is not the case here. You sit in the waiting room without a clue as to the progress on your vehicle. Not a problem except for the fact that no one came out to tell me my vehicle had been tested and didn't pass for at least an hour after the test had been completed. How could I tell? Because I heard the test completion. The guy who did my paperwork was just GONE and the guy who does the testing just let me sit in the waiting room. What's that about? There were only two people in front of me, one whose vehicle was nearly complete when I got there. I went in about 11am and didn't get out of there until well after 12:30? What's that about? The only thing we each have in life is our time and I hate when mine is wasted read more

At 4pm I called this place and the man that answered was very nice. he said they were open until 5pm. He gave me a price of $50 to smog my car so I said "I will be right over" Well when I got there at 4:15 and banged on the door nobody was there and a man came out from the shop next door. I told him I wanted to get a smog and he said he hasn't seen the guy there all day,and has been at his surfboard shop all day. I was like WTF I just told him I will be right there. and the guy said sorry man I don't know what to tell you and went back into his surfboard shop. Got that dreaded smog check notice with my registration. This place is close to me and had a coupon for forty bucks all included. Fastest smog check ever, I was out of there in about twenty minutes and the DMV already had what they needed electronically. Nice people. Highly recommend. Off Airport road between Mission and the 76. Kinda looks closed from the front. Open Saturdays. I suggest calling ahead with all smog check places, they usually only have the one machine. read more

I took my car in the middle of September it had failed smog so the technician around his 50's or 40's had offer me a catylic converter replacement and said that it would cost me $240 with smog included...then I took my car to another smog place and passed! I am disappointed, I used them two and four years ago, but never again. I came in with their coupon, that I had printed that day and they refused to honor it. The coupon said $29.75 for the test plus $8.25 for the certificate plus $10 for trucks plus $10 for 1999 and older so a total of $58 for my 1995 truck. When I presented the coupon at the counter, I was told what the coupon was valid for 1996 to 1999 only, not what it said. I showed them a coupon from Lightning Smog, another Star Smog test center, that would test for truck for $50. I was hoping California Smog Center would price match, but they would not and I went to Lightning Smog and they did indeed honor their coupon. read more
