I found Lightning Smog through yelp when I requested quotes from multiple places. I ended up choosing Lightning Smog based on all their great reviews and they also had a good price. It was $58 with their special, that included the smog certificate. We made an appointment for 1:30pm the same day and ended up coming early around 12pm or so. We went to lunch next door at the Fish Shop and they were done by 12:35pm even though they had an another appointment. Johnnie at the front counter and the person who did the smog (sorry didn't get his name) but they were both great! I will definitely come here again for our next smog! read more

I had originally planned to take my mom's car to a smog place closer to her house but it was chaotic, no parking , and a long wait with customers standing around on the side walk near the busy street. I got on Yelp and found Lightning Smog, with amazing reviews. serves me right for not checking yelp first. I called Lightning smog and a human picked up, As opposed to getting a recording or prompted to push 1,2 or whatever to get help or the runaround . Love the personal service. Brian who picked up the phone was so helpful. Advised of estimated wait times , price , which was significantly less than the market rates stating I would get the special. I arrived, the place was so easy to access. You're on Coast Hwy which is normally busy, but this place provides lots of parking. Brian took my info and put me in the computer system and I was free to wait in a very inviting waiting room or go walking around Several restaurants (1 seafood place next door )and a coffee place a block away . By the time I walked to the coffee place and ordered my coffee my car was finished. It took maybe 30 minutes, I was notified via text message and a phone call letting me know the car passed and was ready. Again great service. I had a good experience and also learned they can dispense the registration sticker /form if needed for a $49 fee. Highly recommend Lightening Smog. Oh and they had great , rock n roll/ old school/ music playing in the background. The workplace was organized and clean. So different from what I've done in the past, made me feel like I was back in the day, with the advantage of high tech for my car, (the certificate is sent to the DMV by midnight. ) but good old fashion friendly service . Needed to get a smog done for my registration. I've been here before so I decided to come back since they were so fast and efficient the first time. Second time rolling up, and they did not disappoint! Fast and friendly service. Brian did the actual smog testing on my vehicle, and he was fast and took care of my vehicle. Johnny was the main man in charge and he was amazing! Very friendly and an awesome smile! Loved the small talk, so I didn't feel like just another customer. He's very genuine and caring and I appreciated that customer service! Price wasn't bad for a smog check. My car is a 2017 and it was only 70 bucks! I'll most definitely come back since Brian and Johnny had me in and out so fast! They do have a cute little waiting room yoy can wait in with seating and plenty of books. I was a returning customer to this place for years ,I bring my parents cars and my wife's and I have also recommend this place to friends but this last time I came I brought this truck I purchased and the guy working there kept making me jump threw hoops . First the battery died and he said for me to add 500miles to it , I did then some stuff about a air line not working . I had to leave and get it fixed somewhere cause I didn't think he wanted to help me . Finally came back and he had me add another 500 miles . And at this point I was over it then he came back to me saying it passed . So the first time it failed due to the air line and I was still charged the full amount then I had the pay the full price again . While I am not one to expect anything for free (I do know, people have to run their business), I just want myself and others to be treated fairly from the get-go.
