O-M-G, they don't call this place Lightning Smog for nothing. It's the BEST Smog Check I've ever been to since I moved to California. When it's that time, I'm always in then in a flash I'm out of there. What a quick turnaround! There's someone checking in folks along with providing estimates and the other one conducting the thorough inspection. They have it down to a tee running like a well oiled machine. All in all, the staff are always super friendly at the same time professional. Looove their AWESOME customer service!! I appreciate it a lot. Thank you guys for your efficiency!!! I highly recommend this inspection station to the Yelp Community :-) read more

Lightning Smog and Auto Registration - Inside (Waiting Area) - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Oceanside, California

I found Lightning Smog through yelp when I requested quotes from multiple places. I ended up choosing Lightning Smog based on all their great reviews and they also had a good price. It was $58 with their special, that included the smog certificate. We made an appointment for 1:30pm the same day and ended up coming early around 12pm or so. We went to lunch next door at the Fish Shop and they were done by 12:35pm even though they had an another appointment. Johnnie at the front counter and the person who did the smog (sorry didn't get his name) but they were both great! I will definitely come here again for our next smog! read more

Needed to get a smog done for my registration. I've been here before so I decided to come back since they were so fast and efficient the first time. Second time rolling up, and they did not disappoint! Fast and friendly service. Brian did the actual smog testing on my vehicle, and he was fast and took care of my vehicle. Johnny was the main man in charge and he was amazing! Very friendly and an awesome smile! Loved the small talk, so I didn't feel like just another customer. He's very genuine and caring and I appreciated that customer service! Price wasn't bad for a smog check. My car is a 2017 and it was only 70 bucks! I'll most definitely come back since Brian and Johnny had me in and out so fast! They do have a cute little waiting room yoy can wait in with seating and plenty of books. They also had heaters on so I wasn't freezing while I was waiting. But literally, I think I only waited 15-20 minutes! Thanks again Lightening smog for not disappointing! read more

Brian took care of me SAME DAY, on short notice, and on a SUNDAY. The only way he could have made my experience better would be to, wave a wand and make me 6 inches TALLER. Spent a total of 20 minutes here. Straight to the point and no hidden fees. Great value. FIH' STAH read more

I stopped to the instant Smog Center perfectly located on South Coast Highway in Oside and it was perfect. A knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff with a ton of restaurants within walking distance to grab a bite while they test your car. Brian at Lightning smog reminded me that good people still exist! I needed the title changed from a car that was towed that I inherited into my name and he jumped right on it! He even called me before I came in to assure me he'd try his best to help. Huge relief that I found Brian at lightning smog. Thank you to Johnny too! read more

Fastest smog check I've ever gotten! Customer service was amazing, will continue coming back!

This place is a great place to get your smog done! The customer service is outstanding and the people who work here are so kind and funny. Anyway they will get you in and out of there fast if all you need is a smog for the dmv! They also offer other services for the dmv in here as well but be ready to pay for the services for that I wasn't expecting it to be that much, but it was convenient for me at the time. I will definitely be coming back for the next smog for my civic again. Thanks guys. read more

I had originally planned to take my mom's car to a smog place closer to her house but it was chaotic, no parking , and a long wait with customers standing around on the side walk near the busy street. I got on Yelp and found Lightning Smog, with amazing reviews. serves me right for not checking yelp first. I called Lightning smog and a human picked up, As opposed to getting a recording or prompted to push 1,2 or whatever to get help or the runaround . Love the personal service. Brian who picked up the phone was so helpful. Advised of estimated wait times , price , which was significantly less than the market rates stating I would get the special. I arrived, the place was so easy to access. You're on Coast Hwy which is normally busy, but this place provides lots of parking. Brian took my info and put me in the computer system and I was free to wait in a very inviting waiting room or go walking around Several restaurants (1 seafood place next door )and a coffee place a block away . By the time I walked to the coffee place and ordered my coffee my car was finished. It took maybe 30 minutes, I was notified via text message and a phone call letting me know the car passed and was ready. Again great service. I had a good experience and also learned they can dispense the registration sticker /form if needed for a $49 fee. Highly recommend Lightening Smog. Oh and they had great , rock n roll/ old school/ music playing in the background. The workplace was organized and clean. So different from what I've done in the past, made me feel like I was back in the day, with the advantage of high tech for my car, (the certificate is sent to the DMV by midnight. ) but good old fashion friendly service . Me and my mom thank you Brian and the Lightning team. read more

Service was quick, business was clean and welcoming. Prices were high but with the discount the price was comparable with other places. I got an appointment right away and they responded to my request quickly. read more

Ever since finding Lightning Smog, it's the only place I will go. Fast, friendly, comfortable (cool) waiting room, and they upload all paperwork right to the DMV. Excellent value and so pleasant. I just noticed that my last review of Lightning Smog was fully eight years ago... ...and yet, I feel the same today as I did then: Lightning Smog continues to rock! It's always a pleasure working with them. Solid, honest work, being as helpful, courteous, and professional as they possibly can. I could not ask for more. read more

I cannot recommend Lightning Smog enough! If you need a smog check, don't even bother looking anywhere else. The service is incredibly quick and absolutely top-notch. Brian and Johnny are so personable and professional--they actually make the whole process enjoyable. It's rare to find a shop where you feel this welcomed and taken care of. One of the biggest perks? They are DMV approved, which means they can give you your certified DMV tags on the spot as soon as your car passes. It saved me a massive headache and a trip to the DMV. I will never take my car anywhere else. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for honest, fast and friendly service! read more

I'll definitely be coming back and would gladly recommend to friends and family! read more

I was a returning customer to this place for years ,I bring my parents cars and my wife's and I have also recommend this place to friends but this last time I came I brought this truck I purchased and the guy working there kept making me jump threw hoops . First the battery died and he said for me to add 500miles to it , I did then some stuff about a air line not working . I had to leave and get it fixed somewhere cause I didn't think he wanted to help me . Finally came back and he had me add another 500 miles . And at this point I was over it then he came back to me saying it passed . So the first time it failed due to the air line and I was still charged the full amount then I had the pay the full price again . I will not be returning cause they tried to make it impossible for me read more

Quickie Update: I got a heartfelt apology and genuinely caring message from the owner. He offered to make things right. While I am not one to expect anything for free (I do know, people have to run their business), I just want myself and others to be treated fairly from the get-go. Since I have to drive the truck a decent distance, I am currently planning a desert trip (which I would have done sooner than later in it regardless of smog certifications). I do appreciate the olive branch. I am not sure I would return yet though as my usual spot is on Oceanside Blvd (they've gone through several ownership changes throughout the decade I've been using them). read more

Great and quick service felt I was only here for a hour and got my smog and registration done. Was able to get some valuable recommendations for auto body shops, paint shops, and more.
