4.5/5 Such a sweet…read moreand special place to gather with friends and play games! I found this place online by searching Board Game cafes and totally didn't expect what we found when we walked in the store in the middle of downtown Hayward. There are so many board games to play, including unique ones like Skyteam. There's also many PCs and Switches available, and lots of tables. The ambiance is pretty kitschy. I think the place used to be a restaurant so there are lots of restaurant tables and chairs which aren't the most stylish or comfy necessarily, and there are lots of little knick knacks like old lamps or drapes. The lighting varies. But there is a sweet elderly couple who were running the place when we arrived, and it evokes a sense of comfy nostalgia to think maybe this is how they like the place or have kept it through many years, even though the times outside have changed. Everything is neat and clean, even if not to modern style. Things like Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer are also provided throughout. There is a bathroom that's likewise well kept at the back of the establishment, but just beware there are a couple spooky motion sensor light hallways to walk down to get there. I heard the food is good but we didn't try it this time. Little snacks and cup ramen, etc are also available for purchase :) $5 per person to stay as long as you like and play whatever you want is a great deal, and it warms my heart to have a space like this exist. Happy to support this sweet family business

My 9 year old nephew was able to play a bunch of different board games with us so we were super happy to have options to include him. I can't wait to come back to play more games.

Came in here on a Saturday, so it was super busy. Ordered a Taro milk tea with red bean and Boba…read more Before I ordered, I made sure that the lady behind the desk had oat, almond, or dairy free milk options. She must've misheard me when I said, oat milk, cause she started using whole milk after I ordered. I told her I have dairy sensitivities. And she said that is the only milk that she had. But this was after I paid for the drink... i've never had a problem at other locations with no other dairy options. ...there was also barely any Boba and half the drink was red bean. Very disappointed. I must've been fourth in line after a family, and three other customers were served before me. If you have dairy sensitivity, DO NOT come here. I do not recommend it. Probably not coming back here again.

It happened repeatedly and felt really unhygienic. I complained because I wasn't comfortable taking a drink that had been handled by several strangers. They remade my drink, but there was no apology and no effort to manage the pickup process. Please consider a better system (calling out names, keeping drinks behind the counter, or handing drinks directly to customers), especially during rush hours.

Excellent, Spinach Flatbread (Mana'eesh)…read more$14.40 Flatbread topped with spinach, onions, and typically includes a blend of herbs and spices. Some very creative sweets, maybe a little too sweet for some, but beautifully presented. A lot of emphasis on pistachio. They have a variety of nice espresso drinks, and even rose latte and rose lemonade. A lovely spot with great staff and a very peaceful environment, unless you are allergic to plastic flowers. There's plenty of them hanging from the walls and ceiling. The vegetarian items are epic. The hummus is delicious with olive oil sitting on top. There's sort of a deli case and you can get a variety of items to take home. The desserts are off the hook. They have many with nuts, flaky crust, and pistachio that are just simply divine. I suggest grabbing a box of goodies to take home, or take to the office because they're so unique. This cafe had almost the exact same chaotic vibe. The moment Jamie W and I walked in, we couldn't tell how to get to the order counter in the back because a group of constantly chatty senior women sat at a table in the middle. They were blocking access to anyone daring to pass behind them. In fact, people were forced to ask others to shift their chairs to make way. Otherwise the decor had an artificial floral motif with bookcases that shook when leaned upon as we saw one customer experience. We had limited time because we were waiting for the next AC bus to Berkeley, so we scrunched ourselves to get to the counter. Jamie ordered the $5.25 Iced Latte and the $3.50 Baklava (Photo 10), while I took it a step further by getting the $6.25 Iced Pistachio Latte (Photo 9) and the $4.50 Warbat, similar to baklava but with a clotted cream filling (Photo 8). All of it was tasty with authentic Syrian-originated flavors, well worth the stop. Just be mindful that the evocative cacophony is real and an innate part of the ambiance. COFFEE / SWEETS - 4 stars...authentic Syrian flavors prove enticing AMBIANCE - 4 stars...kind of a Middle Eastern bazaar feeling with a lot of energy and fake flowers SERVICE - 4 stars...calm women who take control TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely worth a return when the bus isn't rushing us RELATED - Exploring Berkeley?
