It's hard to say enough bad things about the atmosphere. It's like sports bars as a group are on a sprint towards the most sterile, institutional cafeteria-like vibe possible. High metal bar stools and heavily lacquered, sticky, faux-wood table top. Large TVs continuously playing sports. But this post was inspired by a sharper example of soullessness. I was a regular for two years and was asked not to order anymore after running out on a tab for two drinks. Let me explain the case before you decide on this. I am not an impolite customer nor do I generally violate standard protocols. A friend was emotionally distressed (I feared for their safety) and needed company. I got an emergency call, and I went to stay with them. The next day, I had completely forgotten my tab, due to staying up very late and having intensive, intimate discussion with said friend. I returned a few days later for a pizza order and was told that I had walked out on my bill. I offered to pay it on the spot, also noting that I recalled exactly what I had ordered, and interacted with the very bartender who had served me. The bartender mentioned they'd speak with their manager about it. I then received a badly made pizza, almost completely lacking the key topping from which it's flavor was primarily derived. It appeared to be a joke amount, as if to ask "are you gonna say anything? *technically* it's on there!". They wasted half an hour of my time ( and didn't even offer to comp the remake - half an hour of my time being worth several pizzas ) because I did not check the pizza for being correctly made until I got home. I drove back, explained the situation, and they remade it for me (correctly this time). However, the bartender had taken my tidings and offer to repay my bar tab up the chain while I was wasting my time driving a wrong pizza home and back. The response was simply that "they'd like that to be my last order with them". Altogether, not sure if the bartender messed up the pizza to bother me and the manager was not involved, or if it was a team operation. Also not sure if the request to remake a pizza in tandem with having once walked out on a tab in an emergency was some miracle combination. Could have also been that the bartender represented my request for a remake as in any way unusual and was dishonest about how the initial pizza was actually made (incorrectly.). In either case, I strongly recommend avoiding them. They do not have a culture appropriate to a local bar or pizzeria. You aren't anybody to them. Standard protocol at a genuine place like they pretend to be would be just simply mention the forgotten tab and take payment at the next visit, which is something regulars do (the existence of the next visit can be supposed). I regret recommending them to friends & family for the last two years, and I regret ever stopping in as though it was a local bar. This is a corporate operation and it shouldn't be supported at all. Calling itself a house in any way, from my perspective, is just a little marketing gimmick they have to make them seem less corporate. Not sure where to start. I had the St Louis style pizza, it does not taste like St. Louis style. The crust isn't anywhere close to being right as it is too thick and chewy. The service was bad, which is difficult to do for a to-go order. It was obvious they just didn't care from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out. The worst part was the price. Moving from Texas, I thought I'd find good pizza, or at least something edible. Instead, I found this place, which must moonlight as a tire shop because everything I ordered was rubber. We patronized this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. So hard to choose something from the menu everything looks so great. We were the pepperoni pizza and I thought it was good more average. Very good for a pizza place. We typically go here if we want to eat pizza in a restaurant setting. Took our grandson along with friends who had their grandkids too after a Christmas show. I called ahead to check the wait. They were super nice and provided us with an update. This time we got a Detroit style pizza. Excellent sauce. My friend got an enormous calzone, which she loved. I'm part of a group of retired guys who meet for lunch on a regular basis. We pay individual in cash and don't require change the majority of time. We also tip very well .We call ahead letting the place know we will have a party of 7 or 8 and require separate checks. All the places we go are happy to have our business and the serving staff seem happy with the cash payment and not needing to make change. When we had lunch here they refused to do separate checks even though it was agreed to in advance. We will be taking this place off our rotation. read more

I was hopeful for the Sewickley location, but wasn't impressed. We ordered two small pizzas - the Pepperoni Palooza Pizza, the Pineapple Express, and also a Dancing Gnome IPA. Unfortunately, we had a hair very much mixed through the pepperoni and cheese of our Pepperoni Palooza pizza. Our sever Kaitlin handled it with grace, she arrived to our table to check in on us right as we found it. She apologized and offered us another pie, to which we declined. When we received our bill they did remove the cost of the pepperoni pizza. This unfortunate hair was handled well. Thank you, Kaitlin. The pizza flavor was spot on as described. Outside of the hair, it was tasty. The atmosphere was uncomfortable. The utensils are plastic and challenging to use to cut pizza. It felt like the utensils were going to snap when trying to cut through the crispy crust. The barstools were not comfortable and prompted us to take half of our dinner to go. Also, we noticed everyone arriving was very confused about the correct door to use to enter. One door was locked, then second was for dine in/bar, and there are red arrows to a 3rd take out door - but overall it was confusing. This is a place not to miss. The parking lot is not the best when you first get there, but the food is definitely worth the hassle. We were there for a birthday dinner with eight people, and we got some appetizers and some regular meals. The whole experience was great. The two appetizers we got were half-price until 6:30, and they were great! We ordered the cheesy bread and the buffalo chicken rolls. My husband and I ordered the Detroit pizza and five wings. We went to this place on a Thursday night. We were seated immediately. We ordered wings, 8-mile pizza ( deep dish) with pepperoni and quack attack ( pizza with small pieces of smoked duck breast on it). The food was good. The service was also nice and friendly. But why I am giving 4 stars instead of five? Because I ordered Arsenal Cider and from the first sip I realized that it was sour. It was vinegar, not cider. I told our waitress about it. She went and came back and said that it was not bad. It was just dry! I asked my wife to try it and she agreed that it was just a glass of vinegar. We couldn't take one more sip. We came here for a working lunch with business associates on a weekday and they weren't busy at all. Service was decent, rather slow, but decent. The menu is really nice and it's tough to choose just one thing to eat! The Joe Pesci was amazing! Their fried pierogies were amazing as well! It's such a hit or miss there.. especially with takeout.. i've had great pizza and I've had not so great pizza many times the pizzas that I pick up are 50 to 60% crust and that totally annoys me. However, when you eat at the restaurant.. the thin crust Brooklyn pizza is huge and reminds me of the pizzas I grew up with in Connecticut absolutely delicious however, when I got it to go, it wasn't so great. I ordered a pizza to go at the bar. The bartender said about 15-20 minutes. I went outside to my car to wait for the pizza. I came back in after about 17 minutes and sat back down at the bar. No bartender has been back out to the bar in the last 17 minutes. There have been multiple kitchen staff waiting in the doorway from the kitchen peering from the back but no person has come out. The phone is not ringing off the hook and not a single person has appeared either to answer it or to check on customers at the bar. A new person just walked in and there's no person to acknowledge them after 3 minutes. The girl that did come to the front addressed the new customer but ignored me. I had to ask if she could check on my order. She never checked on the pizza and I had to wait for the original bartender to come out. She handed me my luke warm pizza so obviously it's been sitting there for a while. This is disappointing considering they are a 7x world champion and what they charge for pizza. read more

Love the pizza at Caliente.....have been loving the pizza since first location in 2012. My problem with Caliente is beer pricing, and has been for years. I started only going at happy hour when drafts were half off now they are like $1-2 off. Last night I ordered a local beer....a 5.8% abv beer that was served in a tulip glass! A pale ale in a tulip glass for $7.50! Insane! A pint at the brewery is $7. Caliente used to get some really fun hard to get beers...but then they started messing with glass sizes. Tulips, snifters etc for less than 8% abv beers. It really honks me off! I still go here and there when I'm in the mood for the pizza but maybe 2-4 a year....lots of other pizza options in the burgh. I just wish they would be more respectful of their beer customers and serve beers properly. Update: Nick, thank you for your response. I really want to love Caliente Pizza but they seem to miss the mark each time. I try different menu items each visit and I think I am getting closer to identifying the best Caliente experience. To start, I believe take out is the way to go. There is limited seating inside and the ambiance is a sports bar. Service is slow and the bar and kitchen are even slower. The good news is that there is a dedicated takeout entrance and team and I have not had issues ordering over the phone. The fried appetizers and calzones are as expected - decent portions, greasy, and heavy. I ordered a personal pizza one time and it was 60% crust and only 40% toppings. Each time I order takeout I find the pizza is overcooked. I pick up the pizza right at the estimated time so I don't believe it gets over cooked in the warmer. I tried the Mee Maw and was utterly disappointed. It is their award winning pizza but our pizza looked nothing like the picture. It was piled high with greens and did not have enough of the other toppings for balance. I tried the grandma honey on another visit and it had great flavor and was well-balanced, but was over cooked. Both the Mee Maw and grandma honey are on the grandma style crust which is pan style and thick. I think the bread to topping ratio is off with this style so I will need to give another style a chance. Also, there is only one size for this style so the pizzas are $30+. read more

The most recent visit was a few days ago where I went in to have a few drinks during their happy hour and decided to order a medium pizza. I sat at the bar and aside from one couple, I was the only person at the bar. Three different people came and went from behind the bar, but no one acknowledged me. It wasn't even rude, and I don't need any over-the-top welcoming, but I felt like an idiot sitting there in total silence, smiling for 5-10 minutes. My only issue is that it is a tad expensive but nothing to to bad! Here is a personal pizza with green peppers, pineapple, and instead of red sauce I did a garlic butter sauce - about $9.
