I'm from Texas where we have True Mexican food. But as it turns out this place has some very good Mexican food...unlike other place I've been in Annapolis. My wife and I love to eat here. I do Recommend this place! Happy eating!! read more

I'm visiting from RI and pulled into a little strip plaza for my friends to go to a store. They mentioned Calientes as having good food they've had before. I've had it two days in a row now because it is amazingly delicious and fresh. It's clean eating without realizing it. Awesome. read more

Food was good. The service was a little bit slow (an hour for food to arrive) which with kids wasn't too fun. This could have been better with check ins by the waitress. Instead we had to flag her down for drink refills and to ask for more chips and salsa. It was definitely made better by a stop at the table from the owner apologizing and sending us free desert. On arrival the food was good the papusas were amazing. I will certainly go back and try again!! read more

Just tried it for the first time. We will be regulars for sure. Immediate and friendly service. Great margaritas. Had pollo encebollado and a dish I can't name that is chicken breast with citrus. Both delicious especially the former. Love Sin Fronteras but not the waiting line. Dont mourn the loss of the original Mexican Cafe. I had high hopes, was I disappointed. Had the Caliente special, horrible. Old fried yucca with some salsa, thousand island, over cooked pork and chicken. Best part of the meal was the beer. I will never go there again and I hope you pay heed. Lets hope there is not a re-attack in the morning. Wait staff speaks minimum English. read more

Really enjoyed our first trip to this New Mexican restaurant on Forest Drive. The ceviche was fabulous. The appetizer portion could have made a nice lunch and it was delicious. My companion and I shared that with the shrimp and steak fajitas, which were also quite yummy. Finishing off our great meal with some tres leches cake made me feel like I was in Mexico enjoying the local cuisine. I will definately return. read more

I was hoping that Caliente Grill would be a nice addition to our neighborhood, unforgettably it may be the worst restaurant that I have ever been to. At first glance, their "homemade" salsa resembled something that you would have gotten from Chi-Chi's. Their fried yucca must have been leftover from the previous day. The yucca was re-fried to the point that it was nearly rock hard. Yucca should have a crispy exterior while being light and fluffy. I honestly believe that this place is trying to be the first restaurant to have their grand opening sponsored by Kitchen Nightmares. I was forced to give this place 1 star, in actuality i would give it 0. Do not waste your time or money at this place. read more

Caliente Grill was a very nice, friendly, clean restaurant and the staff spoke English and was so polite. I had gotten a shrimp quesadilla and was very impressed. It was filled with lots of cheese and shrimp and I was stuffed. It was presented very nicely and I couldn't wait to start eating. The staff answered all my questions regarding the menu and I can't wait to go back. I know exactly what I am getting-the seafood soup packed with mussels, calamari, shrimp, lobster, fish. The quesadilla was unusually thicker than any other quesadilla I have had in the past. It was stuffed and oh so filling. Reading the reviews here, I agree with a lot. The female wait staff does not speak any english. They point to the menu to ask you what you would like to drink. That said, we can point at the menu, too. We had the seafood ceviche which was wonderful and a special that was so perfectly done (yucca on the bottom included) that I fear it will never be as good again. The margaritas are nothing special but there is certainly enough tequila in it to make anyone happy. Getting wait staff attention for the check took too much. Menu is limited but good. Drinks are good. It would take little to turn this into a 4 star local joint. read more

Caliente Grill, an El Salvadoran restaurant was such a pleasant change from the usual restaurants who just take your order and serve your food. It was the three of us for dinner on a Saturday evening. We were greeted with a genuine smile from the owner, Roxanna, who was anxious to make our meal relaxing and 'full of surprises'. It really showed how delighted she was to have us eat dinner and we felt that we were in her kitchen at her home. We were served warm chips and homemade salsa as soon as we sat. The margueritas are absolutely the best we ever had-perfect! For an appetizer we started with the shrimp quesadilla. It was full of shrimp and lots of melted cheese. I have had this before and it was just as perfect as the last time. I couldn't decide what to have for dinner and she volunteered to 'leave it up to her'. My friend got the 'Costillas de Cerdo'. The pork ribs were marinated to perfection also with onions and peppers. I got a special surprise that was a combination of lots of shrimp with green peppers and onions cooked to a crunchy perfection in a garlic sauce called 'Camarones Al Ajillo'- that was 'oh so good' and the 'Pechuga a La Parilla', a citrus flavored chicken breast with the juices flowing, satisied my craving for both shrimp and chicken. What a surprise to have the owner make something special for me because I couldn't decide which to get. My other friend got the 'Pollo Encebollado', chicken marinated with onions and peppers. Another surprise was a plate of 'Pupusa' which was incredible with flavors bursting. A combination of melted cheese, refried beans stuffed in a tortilla. Accompanied with cabbage and salsa and complimented our meal so well. Another surprise Roxanna gave us to try. Each meal had a decorative side of fried rice. We did not order dessert but then 'another surprise' Roxanna made us the 'Empanadas deplatano'. The warm plantain with cinnamon sugar and a sweet glaze was perfect to end our beautiful dinner. I want to mention the prices were so reasonable. Please try this restaurant and you will feel special because of the way you are treated as a guest in Roxanna's home. read more

Outstanding food , not what you find everywhere else !!! Caliente is an authentic hispanic food experience, not just another " Mexican Food" restaurant !! I had Camarones al la Diabla , which is popular at many restaurants when done badly its heat without taste, done well, the heat also has a fantastic taste, it was done to perfection at Client Grill. Guacamole is another good benchmark, seasoning, quality of ingredients, The Guac here was pretty much perfect, very, very fresh, seasoned spicy as we requested. The Papusas and Tacos are real standouts, Taco shells comparable to what you might find hand made in a local like San Diego CA. Everything was made to order, and tasted like it, the wait time was a bit excessive, but the quality made it worth the wait. Additionally the low cost of great beer names such as Modelo, made the wait pretty easy !! For dessert we were treated to a Tres Leches and we also bought an empanada , both were was everything else perfect !! The owners Raul, and Roxanna were quite welcoming and took the time to explain their philosophy and some of the items we had not been familiar with !! This place is a real hidden gem !! read more

Perhaps we hit Caliente on a bad night, but it couldn't have been much worse! The service was totally incompetent and the food barely edible. When I ordered a beer in a cold glass it came with ice in it. Ok, not terrible but it went way downhill from there. Of the six of us, five ordered virtually the same thing - fajitas - three with steak and two with steak and shrimp - with the sixth person ordering beef enchiladas. The dishes of accompaniments came quite a bit before the main dishes - OK you say, not so bad. Two of the steak fajitas were served, followed several minutes later with the third. Eventually the two other fajita orders arrived - all shrimp though the waitress insisted they were steak and shrimp (no steak to be found on the platter). At that point, an unknown dish was placed in front of the person who had ordered enchiladas, and when he told the waitress that he had ordered enchiladas, she returned several minutes later to say that they didn't have enchiladas. Meanwhile we're all still waiting for tortillas to go with the fajitas, some of which did come out on sizzling platters while most did not. Some of the fajita steak was over-salted and so overdone that it stuck to the platter. On the one other occasion we tried Caliente, shortly after it had opened, the food was OK and any complaints were smoothed over by the owner coming to the table and indicating that she wanted everyone to be happy and assuring us that they would continue to improve. That did not occur last night and we will not return to Caliente! read more
