For the majority of the visit, we were the only ones in the dining area. This was our first clue. The guacamole listed as market price should have been the second. Anyway...we ordered drinks. Mine was good, but my husband said his margarita had no flavor. The waitress asked us about appetizers and if we wanted our guacamole regular or spicy. Of course I chose spicy. My husband got the fajita burrito and I got the trio fajitas. When his burrito arrived I almost laughed out loud. It was half the size of every burrito I've ever seen! Mine dinner had 3 shrimp, a little bit of steak, and a bit more chicken. What it lacked in flavor and meat, it made up for in an over abundance of uncooked onions! Not what I was expecting. It was so disappointing. Speaking of disappointment, the bill.... For over $110 dollars we got two drinks, an appetizer, and two dinners. I'm fine with a $100 meal just not this meal. The guac was $16.50 with an added $1.50 for "spicy"! The 1/2 sized burrito and 3 shrimp were also super overpriced. Overall, we saw the potential in this place but it was disappointing. Came here to visit Raul n Roxana, the sweetest people in the world. We wandered in on a night where a patron rep was engraving bottles for the tequila club. We had an amazing dinner. Parking was front row, so can't complain there. Walking in and getting greeted right away was super nice, everyone was very friendly. Have been here twice in last 3 months. First, was invited by friends. Service was ridiculously slow. Didn't even have chips or water for ages & had to complain. Others who came in after us were served faster. The dining area overwhelming smells like bleach & cleaning products. Second time was today when I ordered takeout nachos which basically a plate of plain chips with barely any topping for $17. Place still reeks of bleach. The clientele at the bar are weird but main source of their business with a little boy, child of the bar patron, was outside running around the busy parking lot with an adult metal cane banging on parked cars. We go to or carry-out from Caliente Grill too often to call it part of our regular rotation. It is a go to place for us. When asked where the best food in Annapolis is the answer is easy. Our house. Where do we go on a regular basis? Caliente Grill is one of three places when we are sick or tired or sick and tired. When you walk in the door you are greeted. It might be someone at the host/ess stand, a wait-person, the bartender...someone will recognize you and be there quickly to take care of you. "Clean" comes to mind as you walk in, sit, use the restrooms, pretty much everywhere. We've eaten through about half the menu. We admittedly keep coming back to the chicken fajita burritos. They're lovely. They are big. My wife and I are not big eaters and can easily share one. Sometimes we get two just so we'll have leftovers. I have expectations for service that include promptness, attention without being cloying, accuracy, and openness. Caliente Grill adds thoughtfulness and kindness to that. If you have not yet been to Caliente Grill what are you waiting for? Five stars from me are like seven from anyone else. I'm impressed. read more

The shrimp were on the small side and over cooked. On the other hand, the carne asada tacos were just right. While here on the same visit, I had the margarita. Awesomely strong but, the mango flavor was not discernible. In all it was a ok outing. The price points are great. Service as ok. Their food is excellent with a huge variety of dishes to choose from. They have a great selection of beers, wines and margaritas to compliment their food. The owners (Raul and Roxana) are splendid hosts and they have a great team of servers working for them. At Caliente Grill you'll hear half English and half Spanish being spoken. Always a great sign. Annapolis has a long list of good Mexican places, and this one is one of the best. The mix of authentic Mexican and Elsalvadore foods is fantastic. I had the tacos and greatly enjoyed them. The beef tongue is certainly worth a try and is really tasty if you can get past the texture. My fiancee tried the fajitas and probably spent more time telling me how amazing they were than actually eating the food. Caliente is THE BEST Hispanic food between the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River! Roxanna and Raoul run a restaurant that is more like their cozy dining room for their frie. On a Sunday night, a few guitarists strummed most pleasantly and filled the room with music. The room is big enough for the friendly, lively crowd. Yet we enjoyed a conversation without having to shout to be heard as is so regretfully common in other restaurants. I very much enjoyed dinner, Pollo Guisado with a sumptuous tomato and spices sauce, just a light touch to flavor the perfectly cook chicken. My dinner partner had a delicious, large fahita carne asada/meat burrito, filled with fresh vegetables. The selection of beer is good too. I ordered Tecate and it was a thirst quencher. This place is VERY new and still getting it's mojo on. I stopped in on a Tuesday for dinner at the bar. Margarita's were good not special, but also not Chevy sweet. I had the tamale, tacos - Chicken and Tongue, Caesar salad, and pork and bean papusas. I have to say the tamale was pretty amazing, it's not my favorite thing BUT I loved this one! I do have to add that it was not bone free, but so delicious that I would take my chances again. The masa was so light I don't know how it stayed on the plate. The tacos were good, chicken was better than the tongue. I hope they improve to the level of Juanita's up the road. The Caesar was huge and at $6 would be an awesome lunch by itself. Everything seems homemade. The papusa was my least favorite I like the ones at Las Delicias on Bestgate better. We have been going to Caliente for years it's a local neighborhood spot and we love it. We went last night and John took care of us -he is amazing and also makes the best skinny margaritas. We had the fish special which was not on the menu and it was incredible. And then we had our regular fish tacos which is amazing always as well as the shrimp quesadilla and a homemade chips with spicy salsa. The place can be empty with maybe a 4 top and a couple bar seats taken up... and the service will tell you it's busy and they can't take food orders for 15 minutes. We had carne asada..should be called "carne a smalla"; hardly enough to call a dinner entree. Till the bill came I got charged the $11 price on the menu plus an additional $7 for the tequila I ordered. (It wasn't casamigos or even patron). When I asked the waiter he said he misunderstood and ordered the marg on the menu (which he said had 2shots in it)but added an additional shot of the Cuervo tradicional I asked for.
