RUDE RUDE RUDE. I came here for their 3 tans for $10 deal, because I wanted to get tan for a party I was having. When I first walked in I said I wanted that deal, and Katie was very nice, showing me around the place. I know it was just for me to change my mind about the cheap offer, but she was nice nonetheless. So we get back to her ringing me up, and she said I needed to purchase goggles..okay, so much for 3/$10...but i figured I needed them anyway. Then she told me the tanning bed doesnt work without an enhancer, and the only one that works well is $10. So $25 later, I realize it probably would have been cheaper to just do the magic tan- and I said I wished I had done that. "Maybe next time!"....next time? After I'm tan from this time? uhh...okay. I get in, get out, pretty standard I guess, I don't know much about tanning salons. I leave, and realize I left my diamond necklace that my boyfriend gave me in there, because I put it on the floor next to the bed when I forgot to take it off & didn't want to get out. FRANTICALLY, I call back, literally FIVE minutes later (I was on the freeway) and the person who answered (Devon?) said there was someone in the room, but they would check. I asked them to call me back and they said "no, you call here". Okay...so I did. They said the person had finished in the room, but they were still there, and they hadn't found anything in the room. I said, "are you sure you checked the right room? I was in the first room to the right when you walk in!" I'm literally crying at this point, and she's just like, um, yes. I am sure. I said, can you please ask the person who went in after me? That necklace is so important to me and I JUST left! It has to be somewhere! She said, "I can't accuse someone of stealing your necklace. Sorry!" *AHHHHH* I ask to speak to Katie because she seemed less rude, and I asked if she could please double check in the room. She put me on hold, came back and said, yes its here. ????? Devon came back on the phone and said, "Oh sweetie, next time, get the room number right, you were in room TWO, not room ONE! Hey guys so this is actually my first review ever. I have been a yelp reader for years but I love Magic Tan so much I finally caved in and made an account. I was actually shocked at some of the bad reviews. The girl with the diamond necklace a few posts below me... grow a brain and dont leave your jewelry at businesses. Also, to the one star reviewers that are complaining about prices think about this.. you get what you pay for. How cheap are you? Anyway, back to the good stuff... I have been a customer for about 2 years and I use their star system. I get about 3 tans per week and I absolutely love this place. If you want a tanning place that feels like a family and not just a business this is the place to go. The decor is elegant and every employee is wonderful. Michelle, the owner, along with Candy, another long term employee both do a wonderful job adding that personal connection that is genuine and make me feel at home. They also both have a wealth of knowledge and always answer my questions honestly I have discovered. They also do not try and push products in your face like other tanning places. It feels like Magic Tan cares about me and not about my money. The other employees: Alex is a sweet heart and it is always nice to chat with her. She seems to care about everyone as well and is one of my favorite employees. It is nice to be around people like Michelle and Candy and Alex that make you feel good just being in their presence. Devon and Katie are also pleasant and full of good information. Don't take this is a negative, they are good employees as far as being attentive and doing their job and answering any question, but they both could use a touch of warmness. Overall 5 stars in my opinion and shame on the cheap crybabies that rate this place low. Go lay in the sun in your backyard if you want a free tan. read more

I have to write an update because Alyssa no longer works at this location, she is now (I think) at the Willow Glenn Cali Tan. I went in for the manual spray tan (I hate booths, I don't trust them), and I had informed the woman helping me that I wanted a medium dark tan. I was wearing shorts, so there was no contact with anything for at least 7 hours while the spray was 'doing its thing'. When I woke up the next day to rinse off the residue from the tan, my legs had two white blocks in front where the color didn't stick, or wasn't sprayed enough. I filled in the area with my foaming tanner at home and it thankfully matched and blended in. I felt rushed at this visit and I feel like I could have been darker. I'll be returning to Cali Tan, but only seeing Alyssa next time at the other location! read more

I went to Magic Tan because I bought their Groupon for a weigh-loss wrap. I have heard of a number of companies doing this, and figured I could use the discount to see if it really did anything at all. My entire experience was a disaster. From and outside perspective walking in for the first time, the salon had plenty of parking out front, and the decor was super cute. The pleasantness stopped here! I was 15 minutes early for my wrap, and when I got to the counter 2 17-ish year old girls were working. They were bubbly-friendly in the usually tanning salon girl kind of way. They looked up my appointment, and it wasnt there. I had specifically made the appointment over a month prior, because I had a wedding to go to, and I wanted just the temporary feeling of thin-nes I have heard some people get (I realize a weight-loss wrap mostly takes water weigh, giving only a temporary look of loss, and I was OK with that). They immediately didnt know what to do. There was another peorson booked into the time slot I had booked. "should we call the other person" "I dont know should we tell this person to wait" "Ummmm, I'm sorry I dont know what to tell you." The other appointment ended up not showing, so I still got in. As I went to the bathroom, waiting to see if the other woman was a no-show, the toilet EXPLODED all over me! I just use it #1, flushed, and water gushed out of the toilet tank in all directions, hitting all 4 walls. My clothes were SOAKED, as was my new Coach handbag and everything inside it. The girls didnt really listen to my description or look like they believed me when I came out, and did not offer me towels. I actually walked them back there, showed them the gushing explosion, and soaked myself again in toilet water just to prove my point of what happened. They freaked out and called their manager, who wasnt answering, so they called someone else, and so on. They were very worried about the broken toilet, but not so much worried about their wet customer with ruined designer articles. I finally got into the bed with my DVD selected ready for my wrap. The girl put in my DVD for me, and it wasnt at the beginning. She coulndt figure out how to get he menu selection back to the beginning so I had to watch Sex in the City 2 from the middle onwards. They bring you a little doorbell buzzer you're supposed to ding if you get uncomfortable, which i tried 3 times, and no one came to help me. I was getting really hot patches that felt like burning. When some finally came (on their own accord, not in response to the bell) to check on me, they turned the temp down and put a few towel under the wrap to give me a stronger barrier. I was writhing and adjusting my weight under the wraps I was so uncomfortable. I sweated some, but it really just felt like leaving a hot pack on your butt too long!!! When the traumatic experience was over I had the following: -Red patches all over my body that took more than 24 hours to go away (I took pictures) - soaking wet clothes I could not change back in to from the toilet -ZERO weight loss or inch loss - Less sweat than working out There was also a serious push to sign up for the 4 wrap package for soemthing like $300 at the end, and I resisted. I can not say anything about their actual tanning booths, but the "weight loss wrap" is a total fraud and I will never be back. You could sweat more in a hot bath/sauna than here, and not have to suffer through the heat rashes. read more

So happy to hear that Magic Tan is under new ownership. After my horrific experience last year, the new manager contacted me for a make-up session. I was so happy to re-visit because Olivia and Alyssa were super sweet to me. Apparently, they couldn't find me in their system so they were convinced I had never been to Magic Tan. Well, I'm not surprised I was never inputted into the system after having that huge altercation with the previous manager! I happily gave them my info again and they walked me through everything I needed to know. Best of all, they kept a positive attitude and warm smiles. These girls made the VersaSpray tan so easy to understand. They made sure I felt comfortable before I started the tan and I couldn't have been more pleased. The result: Zero confusion and a perfect tan that lasted over a week! I love the VersaSpray tan and will come back to Magic Tan whenever I need a little fake and bake. =D read more

Recently came in for a tan. I was a bit nervous because I didn't want to look like an orange walking out... Thankfully I did not! After first session, It looked extremely blotchy, but the staff told me it was normal for the first day until you shower. I forgot my ring hanging on the hook in the room I tanned in yesterday. It was given to me by my grandmother and was very special to me. I left a sad voicemail after hours and hoped they had it. I got a call from Lindsey saying that a man who tanned inside that same room brought it out to her this morning saying "hey look what I found". THANK GOODNESS for nice people in this world! I am truly thankful to whoever that man is and to Lindsey for making sure it was safe until I came to pick it up! Hands down the best salon in San Jose! This review is way overdue!! I have been coming here for years and the service and cleanliness cannot be beat. I am actually shocked to see some of the bad reviews, some of them sound completely untrue, especially the toilet one. Haha..anyways, I always use the spray booth and have never been orange. They even have a small heater so you stay warm as you get sprayed. Then the machine dries you afterwards. The girls at the front are very knowledgeable about each and every machine. I have tried almost every bed, including the wrap. Never any problems with appointments, or with expired packages. I guess I must understand what an expiration date means. This salon is always spotless. No dust anywhere, floors are always clean, and the tanning beds are wiped clean each and every time. Not to mention, the tanning equipment is up to date. They have the newest on the market. I have referred many people to this salon, and everyone loves it. Thanks for being so great ;) read more

I went to Cali Tan to get an airbrush tan. The last time I went to get this done since I was going to prom 7 years ago. I was very scared about getting an airbrush because the last time I went I left leaving orange! The girl who gave me the airbrush was very reassuring and took away my nerves. I luv this place!!! The staff is extremely nice and friendly. I tan here before but never had a body wrap. I was suffering some back and joint pain and the staff was knowledgeable and reassure me the experience will help my pain. THEY WERE RIGHT!!! I felt like a QUEEN in the wrap room. I get to enjoy my favorite "sex in the city" DVD while sipping on your choice of hot tea, a bottle of cold water and after the wrap they even give you more water, wet cold face towel and cold apple juice. They come into the room and check on you every 15 minutes to ensure you are comfortable. They were mindful that I just had a spray tan at another spa and suggest to keep the fan on in case I sweat a lot and the spray tan may fade. Worst customer service ! I bought 3 tans for $10 and did my first 2 tans then on my third tan was offered a discount on a package which I declined. As the clerk was showing me how to use the machine for my third tan another clerk walked back to where we were and informs me I can't use my third tan because I had been here a few years ago and this special was for new customers only. Why did they sell me this package then ? They were aware when I bought it I had been there before. I guess they need the $3 more than me. read more

The management at this location is the worst ever!!! I bought a airbrush package for my niece prior to prom. The first visit the tan was amazing, 9 days later went for the second spray and ended up with running streaks on her arms and legs and orange feet. Called within 48 hours after airbrush to see if Salon would fix the problem and all the manager was concerned with was selling my niece another package to try and fix their mistake. Called other airbrushing places and they were surprised that Magic Tan would not help my niece. I am very applaud at the managements decision and that they lost a valuable customer. read more

Came in here 3 different times to sign up for a membership. As a manager, I would never turn away a paying client and I'm sure their manager wouldn't either! Every time I came in it took them at least 15 minutes to acknowledge me. I mean 2 girls at the front and zero clients, you don't notice someone? One of the times, I literally walked in a tiny bit before 9 to sign up and tan... The girl at the front quickly saw me (this time) and said they don't take anybody after 9... But its not even 9 yet? "Its almost 9" but I'm a new client, and I'd like to tan "sorry we don't take anybody after 9" Not even to sign up? "No." WOW... What business turns away money? And why would you be open till 9:30 but not take anybody after 9? They lady was very helpful and suggested times in esch bed specefic to my needs based on the fairness of my skin ((I'm really pale in the winter)) I loveed this since this is my first time tanning and I habe no idea what is what. Also, They show you each and every bed and its benefits so you know exactly what your paying for before u commit. 3tans for $10 promo for new clients ((good deal) Very clean, high tech, fancy shmancy rooms and beds.((love the stand up)) Offer slight discounts The cost per month is way over average, they reduced the prices but still very high,unlimited per month with a 3 month minimum and they pretty much add on a whole tanning kit for the first month for about $35 more that u MUST buy with the "package" didn't like this at all ((I have my own moisturizers!!)) I went in here on a whim and ended up falling in love with the selection of lotions,auto sunless spray,accelerators and staff. Being a naturally tan person I don't have a lot of experience with tanning salons, but I recently decided to try an air brush tan since my lower and upper body colors were not quite the same and I was going on a ladies weekend:)....I LOVED it! Holly did an awesome job! The tan looked so natural and there were no imperfections at all. I was also so surprised at how long my tan lasted. After 10 days, it still looked great...I will definitely be back! The salon is also very clean and sells lots of other great items like jewelry and purses! read more

I recently went back to Magic Tan after many years of not tanning, and I must say, what a gorgeous salon! Everything is all new...all new beds with all different levels-some even have aromatherapy misters- hardwood floors, and the best part....a super friendly and knowledgeable staff. They took their time with me and told me all kinds of stuff about their lamps and they change them often so they never get old. The beds and the store is always clean too. I'm going to a wedding this weekend, so I did the spray on tan 2 days ago and the color looks great. It doesn't even look like a fake tan cause I'm not all orange or streaky either (I was kinda afraid of that)! The prices are great for what you get too. I signed up for the $99/month plan and I can use all their beds and spray booth unlimited. Plus, its only a 3 month minimum contract. I shopped around a bit before I went back to Magic Tan, and they wanted me to sign a 1 year contract! I don't know about you, but who the heck knows where they are going to be or what they are going to be doing in a freaking year! I would highly recommend at least checking this place out. Its definately worth it if you want a nice tan. They have lots of new customer deals and coupons to try out too. read more

I came in for the first time a few weeks ago for an airbrush and my experience was outstanding!! Marissa was the technician who did my airbrush and she was FABULOUS!! She was very helpful when explaining which package I should get, walked me through how to take care of my airbrush, and the tan came out flawless. I'm particular about the way I wanted my tan but she listened to exactly what I wanted and gave me the results I expected. I've been here a few time for their magic tan, I think they call it VeraSpa and it's great. I like how it sprays the prep gel on you before and that it speaks to you so you know what's coming next. I'm very satisfied with the results I get. $28 bucks and it lasts 7-10 days if you take care of it. Great for special occasions. I used to be a sunless tanner but lately I've been sticking with the magic tan and it's a great alternative!! read more

It's very hard for me to tan because I am very light skinned and I tend to turn red and burn easily when exposed to the sun. After I came back from vacationing in Mexico, I got a little tanned and loved the "glow" and wanted more. I decided to look up tanning salons and found Magic Tan and decided to give it a try. Magic Tan is very, very clean and the tanning beds are top of the line and are brand new. I was very impressed with the equipment and the employees where very knowledgeable. The only problem with Magic Tan is it's very pricey, but the place is clean and well ventilated and the employees are nice, so I will continue going there. read more

I bought a 5 body wrap session through Groupon. Upon arriving after scheduling an appointment, Mariah checked me in, had me sign a release form and redeemed my Groupon voucher. She walked me into the room and their body wrap was completely different than I expected and which made me feel uncomfortable. I told her I would like to decline the service and request for the Groupon refund by asking the owner to send me an email confirmation so I can forward that email to Groupon to issue me a refund. I wrote my email down but it has been days and I have not heard from them or seen an email. I will contact my bank to dispute the charge. read more
