I honestly love this place--it's very convenient and close to home. Unfortunately, today's experience did not reflect that. I had an appointment scheduled for 10:00 AM, but when I arrived, no one was there. I called and even came back around 10:30 AM, and the location was still closed. There was no note on the door, and I didn't receive any call or text notifying me of a closure or issue. This place has real problems. I was a member of 20 years when it was Magic Tan. Since Cali Tan took over, there are problems all the time. I booked an airbrush today, and when I showed up, the employee told me they had moved my appointment to the other location. I told her I was not notified, and she said yes, I was sent an email. I told her I did not receive it, and she said "yes you did." I looked at my emails, and it was not there. I didn't have time to drive to the other location before it closed. This tan was for a vacation. Just think if this was for a wedding. Lots of brides like a little color for their wedding day. Maybe it would have been a little better if the employee had shown some customer service, but she acted like she could care less! What a horrible experience. I've updated my review....the place is still clean and relaxing... but major headaches with a Groupon there A friend purchased a Groupon for me for 6 airbrush tan cocktails. The first couple of visits were fine, but when I called to schedule for the next tan I was told nope sorry you have to buy a new package, the others expired. The employee then said if I bought a new Groupon cocktail session she would waive the exp date and make my other "expired" tans valid again. Ok , fine, done. The next day went for my tan. Different employee. This person said not only was the new tan not going to help with my other tans but I shouldn't have been able to buy it because I'd used another Groupon blah blah. After fussing I did get a call from the manager who resolved everything but what a headache. read more

My account was still in the system and all the information was accurate, so all I needed to do was pick out a new tanning lotion. I've been going for years and used to love this but they have really cutback their hours. They are barely open at all on the weekends now and for people who work during the week its super hard to make it there when they are open. Where do I start.... I've been going to Magic Tan for YEARS. Years.. as in about five. I always did the monthly deal, but lets face it.. $60 a month to tan is ridic. I knew that I was going to be gone for a little over a month so I canceled my monthly and got on their "stars" program. So my stars just ended and I said, ok I'll go back to a monthly now.. and what do you know its cheaper.. it would have been $54.30 a month or something including tax . Fine I said. Until she is like ok your monthly price today is $80 something. WHAT??? They wanted me to pay some new client monthly fee or some crap. Really?????? I've been coming here for FIVE FREAKING years. Magic tan has got a LOT of my money over the years. A TON. I have been a very loyal customer. This was just so disappointing. Sigh. And they could have cared less about it! The girl goes, ok do you still want to do it? I said no and marched myself over to Australian tan and signed up there instead. Just SO SO SO disappointed in the customer service after all these years of being such a loyal paying customer. Just go else where. I wish I could give it a 0. I'm not one to complain a lot or try to get free stuff. Really I don't need my $28 back, big deal. All I ask when I enter a business is good customer service and to get what I paid for. At least as a manager act like you care about your customer's being happy. I went in at the end of the night to get a quick spray tan in their booth and was happy to hear it was buy one get one free. The girl walked me through what to do, then I got ready and stepped into the booth and pushed the button...nothing happened. This took 4 tries...of standing in a room naked running back and forth talking to the girl through the door. Then finally they got it to work or so I thought. This isn't my first spray tan I've done it a bunch of times. So it's not like I'm clueless. But this booth is different, they said this prep cream sprays out twice and then dries then you get out and put on barrier cream then it sprays the tanning solution. Maybe the girl explained it wrong I don't know...but all I know is NO prep cream came out and it went strait into spraying the tanning solution. Not only that but it sprayed out weird, not even so in he morning I looked like a leopard. She came in and tested it and said it wasn't working right it should have sprayed the prep spray first and I should talk to the manager and get a refund or another tan. Since that was the suggestion, that's what I did and instead of getting a sympathetic ear to understand that I was unhappy. The manager (Michelle) first of all didn't even call me like I had asked, she apparently didn't want to deal with it and had her employee call me. Which she didn't seem to get the issue so I had to call the manager back today. Basically she doesn't know anything about customer service and should definitely not been the manager. I get running a business you need to be careful and not hand out free stuff but the booth flat our didn't work that night, the employee vouched for it. There shouldn't have even been a discussion, she should have acted like a manager and been polite and customer service oriented. Instead she was rude and left me feeling like I had to defend my case....when I'm right here. Needless to say...I won't be going back even for my free tan. Nor will I go back in the future. Worst first experience ever!! Not only was my tan HORRIBLE but their service was too. I shoulda turned around and left then! Then when the girl was done spraying me, she gave me the blow dryer to dry myself and she walked out without guiding me through the process. I had to call her back inside a couple times because she kept leaving, i asked her what do I do next. I didn't know if there was another step to it or if i was done. Then she had the nerve to tell me " we need to get your stuff out of here because we have another appointment. Talk about being rushed! Had she not walked out so many times and maybe took the time to tell me what to do next, I would of been out of there sooner. When I was completely done I had streaks on my chest, and right below my boobs My tan was uneven, there was creases and there was a green tint to my tan. I'm a spray tanner and I freely admit it. Magic Tan offers an assortment of tanning options for both spray and UV tanning, which gives them points from the get go. The fact that they offer both booth and personal spray tanning makes them twice as good as other spray tanning joints. (Most offer one or the other - not both.) Magic Tan has the VersaSpa system which I've found to be the best! I've tried Mystik (heavy on the ick) and I've gone to a couple of personal spray tanners. In comparison, the VersaSpa is fast, the tan looks great and lasts at least 5 days. Smell of the solution is minimal - which means a lot in the spray tanning biz! I deducted one star for three minor reasons: 1) Sometimes their supplies of blocking cream or baby wipes is low-to-gone, they should check more often. 2) It would be nice if the area where the VersaSpa is located were kept a bit warmer. (Realizing here that a tanning salon has to keep temps comfy for those using UV as well as those doing spray.) It's just the simple fact that a cold body that gets spray-tanned won't look good once it's warmed up. Not sure what they can do about this though as the booth does have it's own heater. 3) Similar to #2 - the spray solution itself shouldn't be ice cold. Again - a challenge as I'm sure there are chemicals in the solution that need to be kept to a max temp. Kudos to the Magic Tan team for making spray tanning affordable and easy! read more

So after reading the reviews I must put in my 2 cents...seriously - you left your jewelry in room 2 but said it was in room 1 and when they break their necks to search for your jewelry to return it to you - THEY ARE RUDE FOR CORRECTING THE ROOM NUMBER? You purchase vouchers or whatever and they expire on a certain date and you show up two days later and they won't honor your voucher??? I find it hard to believe that they would say "sorry, we don't care." There is an expiration date for a reason!! Do you take a coupon to the grocery store after it expires and because you are a customer - they should honor it anyway?? These complaints seem ridiculous. I have gone to many, many tanning salons in the area and Magic Tan is by far one of the best!! The owner is wonderful - the employees are polite and helpful and HONEST!! I left five rings in the room and when I returned an hour later - they had them behind the counter in an envelope with my name on it. I really thought my jewelry was gone in this day and age when honestly is not the norm. I was a member of Australian Tan and no thank you...I will stay at Magic Tan!! I went in to get a spray tan but unfortunately there was a man Kale working and he was unable to do any spray. He asked if I had appointment I said no that I never in the past 4 years coming here never needed an advanced appointment. I replied I am going on vacation and would I be able to make an appointment for the next morning (Saturday) he replied he was working the next day as well and I then asked if there would be a women there on Saturday and he said no . I then asked him if there is another location and he said yes at Willow Glen. I live just two blocks away from the Thornwood location but I said ok. So I went to the Willow Glen location and she spray tanned me . If anyone know how uncomfortable it is with a stranger seeing you naked I mentioned that I had to come across town because there was only a man working at the other location. I did mention briefly how I wished there were two employees working during the holiday weekends. So I did buy a vip membership and returned to my neighborhood location to just get a tan in the bed he responded "oh your the one that mention him being a man and I need to leave right now" I was in shock omg he said it was inappropriate for me to tell the lady about him being a man working here and that his manager will be calling me. I've been a customer for years and have always had great service. All of the service representatives always greeted me by name and with a great attitude and smile. I don't know how they remembered my full name since they must have tons of customers and I only came in 1-2 times a week, but it sure made me feel welcome, like I was going to the "Cheers" bar. I don't know how this place had so many bad reviews. I've visited this location plenty of times and have always been greeted and treated nicely. The first time I ever walked in, it was just to browse their pricing on tanning packages. Weeks later, I returned to choose a package and I was treated kindly both times. Tanning rooms/beds are clean. The girls are good people, you're in there to tan people...are they supposed to kiss your feet? FYI If you want to be treated with a friendly attitude you have to give a friendly attitude as well. Jesus people! The world does not revolve around you. Monique was so sweet and went above and beyond for my second attempt to trying Cali Tan out! She gave me a tour and explained what services and products Cali Tan offers. She explained the differences between the beds and accelerators. She was really nice and knowledgeable. She also gave me a complementary water bottle- which sounds weird to mention but I think it's important since that wasn't included the first time I went.. just goes to show how above and beyond Monique went for me! So far I've been loving my tan- however I tan very easily so I know for me it doesn't take much to get dark. Please do not buy from Groupon! Cali Tan deal. They have misleading/false advertisement to get you pay the full price. I bought ThreeVersa Pro Spray for $44.55. Called and made an appontment. The lady said I am in the system with last appointment date in 2017. I mentioned I puchased a groupon deal. She said the voucher will confirm at the site. Drove there, did not honor my voucher as the voucher is for new customer only. Offered me to pay the difference. they did not tell me when i made an appoitment . she said it is on the fine print. but you can only see this fine print once paid and ready to print the voucher. I'll give it a star on the count that the place is well kept and appears clean. 1st time there, and already have been over charged. I went back to ask the reason. Well seems like they charge a first time $20 sign up fee, which is waived if you buy a three month package. I bought a three month package but I got got. I asked the clerk then to just cancel the subscription and I'll just do a one month thing since I've been charged anyway. Apparently no change can be made to your account without manager approval-not even refund you for a mistake on their behalf. A note was left for the manager, which I was informed I'd get a call back directly from them to make the change and now more than a week has passed and have not heard anything. I understand as employees we all start somewhere, but staff needs to be well trained and comfortable before being pushed to being on their own. First off; the good - the sales associate who helped me, Heidi was very nice and knowledgeable, she educated me and made me feel like I had chosen the best possible tanning salon. Cool, great, sign me up! Your website says; "We will honor all competitors coupons or specials for the same level of service." Will you accept my coupon which I printed out and came in with?? Heidi looked it over after I filled out all my info, and says she needs manager approval, no worries, I get that. About 10 minuets later the front desk phone rings and Heidi tells me it's her manager, Michelle, who wishes to speak with me. Michelle, the manage informed me via telephone, that yes while I have a competitor's coupon, they "will not honor it" as it is from a shop in Palo Alto, and Magic Tan is not in direct competition with salons in Palo Alto. Michelle further went on to educate me on her idea of the definition of the word "competitor" and that only "local" places like Australian Tanning Company would be acceptable. It's really too bad Michelle, not only have you lost my business, which would have consisted of regular tanning an Infra Red Body Treatments, but you've alienated me enough to write a review for all to see, and you can rest assured that every one of my friends and family members will be apprised of your service, or lack there of. I've been to many tanning salons, I've even worked at one for about 4 years, and I'm so happy to have found this place. I can't vouch for the other locations but literally every time I come in I'm excited because I know I'll be greeted well and be able to tan in a CLEAN room. I went to another tanning business and unfortunately after several years going to them I had to stop. Not only was the customer service back and forth( depending on who worked there) but several locations I had to come out of the room because the bed was not clean. So disgusting. But NOT here. I have been tanning for the about 6 months now. Love this place!! Customer service is awesome! They never disappoint. I pay 89$ a month for unlimited tanning! Personally, that's a great deal because I used to pay 25$ at a place back home for each session. With this package, you get 25% off products and you can tan in ANY bed you'd like. For one service, it's averages about 35$ already.. I highly recommend using the matrix lay down bed. you could see the results after 2 sessions. If you don't want your package deal anymore, they could cancel it and hold your account for a dollar a month until you want to continue it. :) read more

When the coronavirus lockdown occurred Cali 10 did not charge me and then inadvertently they charged me $49 a month for both June and July without notifying me. I asked them several times to reverse the charges on my credit card I had to go in the office personally to cancel. I purchased two Groupons. I redeemed one deal and when I came back to redeem the second one, I was told that I can't use the same deal twice. There was nothing said about the limitations when I purchased two Groupons. I was refused the service. Carly- the receptionist was rude and unprofessional, and refused to contact me with the manager.
