I've been a member since I moved to San Jose a year and a half ago. I love the employees here. Always so cheerful and nice. I love that I never have to wait for a bed and appreciate the cleanliness of the salon. If there was one thing I would change is the hours. With my schedule, I have to rush before it closes at 6:30pm or go on lunch. Also, Sundays are closed, which is a day that I would love to tan. read more

This review is for the Mystic spray tan. I just moved here from Atlanta and called to see if this place had a Mystic booth. They said they did and also had hair nets and feet protectors, which they did, BUT they don't have nose guards or goggles, which I discovered when I stepped into the booth. I have NEVER seen a spray tan booth this ancient. It had ZERO ventilation, and since I had no nose guard, my lungs were literally filling up with the spray tan with every breath, which completely freaked me out. Also, there is no dryer. What in the world?!? When finished, I was standing in a thick haze of spray tan stuff. And when I stepped out of the little booth into the attached changing booth, I was still in a haze of stuff. How does this booth pass any safety inspection?!? The associate told me their other location has a different type of spray tan booth, which I desperately hope is a million times better since I already signed up for a three-month membership. read more

I have no idea why people are unhappy with this place. Its a tanning salon. I go there a couple months a year when I want to get tan. I go into a room, stand in the booth, and 7 mins later I'm tanner than I was 7 minutes earlier. Then I do it all over again until I'm satisfied. Its not a big deal. The tanning place is nice but the woman who works there is just simply incompetent. I didn't catch her name but she isn't the younger woman from San Diego. That girl is awesome. It's another longer dark haired woman late twenties early thirties. Both times I've been there she said my credit card didn't go through. I immediately called my CC company while there and they said it was working and didn't even show that it had been run. Also both times she's forgotten to even turn the mystic machine on! She has 2 jobs turn machine on and take payment. When I questioned her about her not turning machine on she argued with me. Total BS. read more

The gals that work there are very sweet. Manager, not so much. I had bought one Groupon to use before a vacation and my husband purchased a new one for me for Christmas. He even called and asked and was told one person could use two Groupons max. When I went in this week, the manager "pounced" on me, for lack of a better word, as I was walking out of the tanning bed, before I said a word, that I had used my last session. I explained I had a Groupon and would redeem it next time. She was incredibly rude and told me I couldn't. I was not going to argue, she clearly takes her manager role a bit too seriously. Now I know why there is such a high turnover and no customers are never there. My husband just got the refund. It's sad because I work for a casting agency and we are filming a Netflix movie near the salon. I had several actors and actresses ready to come in and tan, so they lost our business. There is a salon I go to back in LA that lets you purchase unlimited Groupons and they are super busy. This place is dead. I guess they aren't out to make a profit and keep customers. read more

I haven't been to this place since it was Hollywood Tans. I'd purchased a tan package and had 11 tans left which Cali Tans had no obligation to honor. After speaking to Lindsey who is the manager, she stated that she would honor them! I know they usually wouldn't do that so I asked her why she was doing it for me and she said that I was polite. You nothing to lose by being nice, but everything to lose by being an a**hole. She was really professional on the phone and it felt like a place that I was happy to do business with. I felt comfortable purchasing more tans. Come to find out that they had a special going on that I could not pass. The few times that I've been there, I was greeted by a different staff member or teammate and it's super professional! The booths are well maintained and don't feel grimy. I've been going here for a few years now on and off. And the most recent times with the newer staff has made me not feel welcomed. I usually get mystic sprays and the machine was broken one day so I was offered the airbrush tan. I'm not extremely confident in my skin, but wow the girl that sprayed me made me feel SO UNCOMFORTABLE. She was making faces of disgust and acted annoyed the whole time. Made me want to never experience that again. BUT I dealt with the girl closing tonight. She was the most welcoming and comforting gal I've dealt with. Jenny took the time to walk me through all of my options, even finding out why I was tanning so she could recommend the best fit for me. She could not possibly have been nicer or more friendly and ensured that I knew exactly what to do - no one likes to be fumbling around trying to figure out a new tanning salons equipment or processes while butt naked!! Given the other reviews, I thought that maybe it was just luck that I got Jenny the first time so I waited until I went a few more times before I wrote a review. I can officially say that everyone of the people there have been fantastic - friendly, helpful and professional every time. I'm not sure what other folks are looking for in a tanning salon but I solidly give this team 5 stars! read more

I've been coming here for years as it keeps switching names/owners (see Hollywood Tans previous review). It's expensive for sure, but convenient to where I live so it must work. I think I pay something ridiculous per month like $80 to tan, but it's like 5 months out of the year, no sweat. I put it on hold for $1 per month the rest of the time. Reason my 5 star rating went down to a 4 Customer Service - What happened here? The faces change every year (which isn't surprising), but their customer service skills have gone downhill. Some of the girls are nice. All of them are pretty. But for some of them pretty might be all they have...Maybe I have come in on "off days" but they all look bored out of their mind & seem to ALWAYS be training a new girl. I'd be bored too, so nothing against them there. They all seem like they never want to deal with customers, which defeats the purpose of their job & that's my main issue if I had to choose one. They just seem clueless about a lot of things - Pricing, pro rating, cost of lotions, etc. I get it ladies, you're probably getting minimum wage to sit there, be tan, push a button for time, with lots of down time. Then you have to deal with douche people, you know like myself most of the time LOL. But just please put a little effort in, that's all I'm saying. I miss Clara working there, she was the best! Down a star too because they never have womens deodorant anymore. Listen, I'm a lady that loves Axe & Right Guard on men, just not myself. I don't like leaving there smelling like I was just with some dude... oh wait, it's me! Sure, I attempt to cover it up with their $2 body fragrance spray it, but that lasts for like a second then it's right back to man city for me! I went into their lay down 60 bed today. 3 words for you - Final Destination 3. Yup, that's all I kept thinking about in there. It was SO claustrophobic & the radio didn't work so all I had were my stupid thoughts. I don't even know if my face was getting tan. My fat butt fit, but I swear if I took a breath I just might be touching the top of the enclosure. Plus, that handle was in a really weird area. On a positive note, the place always seems impeccably clean. Anyways, I'd join if I were a newbie. I dunno if it's worth the cost for some vanity purposes, but it does the job with a lot of options. read more

This place is nice and definitely a convenient location for me. I bought a 2 month unlimited UV tanning package during their Memorial Day sale. Still pricey and not exactly what I was looking to purchase, but the girl at the desk helped me to find a package that was going to be the best price for what I was trying to do (get a base tan/some color before a vacation). The place is always empty and I've never had to wait for the bed that I wanted, which was great. The girls that work there are nice enough, but only once was I offered a "basket" - a cold towel and water - which according to that girl I was supposed to be offered every time that I came in. Generally, I don't spend more than 10 minutes in the place and exchange very few words, quick and easy experience. Would definitely come back if I need to tan again or possibly to try a spray tan in the future. read more

I have been a long-time customer for this tanning salon I do spray tan airbrush spray tans and I always buy the package deals. This place was the best with the previous owner. I think it used to be Betan. When they changed to Cali tan they honored like one of those tans in my package from the previous owner. The last time I made an appointment in October they told me that they can no longer honor my packages with no notice!! I was pissed. They claimed to send out an email, which I never received. If they were going to discontinue honoring previous packages or any packages that are pre-paid at least they should have called each person and left a voicemail saying come in and use your tan by such a date which they did not do. So don't ever buy a package with this place because someday when you go to use it they're going to tell you can't use it anymore. Also the AirBrush employees have gotten younger and have less experience around techniques in how to get a good spray. The last airbrush I got the solution beaded up on my skin which never should happen, because the spray was so heavy and thick. Ultimately, the tan did not last very long and broke very quickly. It made me look like I had freckles and sun damage on my chest area and body. This place gets a one star for wasting my money on packages that I can't use. Complete rip off. If you buy a business from someone else you need to honor packages that previous clients paid into that business. read more

Came in for a last minute airbrush on the day of my graduation and received the best service. The assistant manager Madison offered me the rapid solution which let me shower in only 3 hours! Today, I decided to stop in and check the place out before going to check another tanning salon. Walked in and was immediately greeted by a nice, young woman. I told her I was new Campbell having just moved from Fremont. Right away, she jumped up and asked I'd like a tour. She showed me around, explained the different tanning beds, the towel station, etc. I decided to join Cali Tan right then, never mind stopping at another place. I asked her name, she replied, "I'm Julia". Well, big thank you to Julia for taking the time to show me around and signing me up. I have mixed feelings about this place. Been going for years. The girls who work here are hit or miss. Some are sweet and friendly and others are cold and unprofessional. My main reason for this post was I went in to tan and the booth I wanted was dirty. There were 3 girls working and 1 went back to clean. Not even exaggerating, 10 seconds later she came out and said 2 rooms were ready. I said, "you cleaned both those just now? " and she said yes. There's no way she sanitized 2 booths in 10 seconds. I now tan in only the stand ups and keep my flip flips on. Disgusting. Sorry to those tanning barefoot after me since they probably won't clean the floor. read more

Prior to coming here, I've only had one airbrush tanning experience ever in my life, which was not a memorable or pleasant experience. However, I decided to give this airbrush tanning another chance, since I had a fitness photoshoot to do. I was suggested by other serious fitness enthusiasts to get an airbrush tan to accentuate my muscle definition. Thanks to Groupon, I stumbled upon a good deal that led me to Cali Tan. My initial interaction with Cali Tan was through the phone, as I attempted to schedule an appointment and get more information. They were very friendly, patient, and accommodating. Upon coming in for my appointment, I was greeted by a lovely staff member, Camila, who turned out to be the amazing airbrush specialist spraying me down. She was very attentive, friendly, and personable, which made the experience that much more comfortable and welcoming. My tan turned out fantastic. Camila was able to give me a natural glow, without going too dark. Camila absolutely changed my mind about airbrush tanning - it made all the difference in my overall look in the fitness photos. Love love love Cali Tan. I only do sprays. I have monthly unlimited spray tans. I can either do mystic (or at the south valley location they have the spa type) or airbrush. I use the airbrush when I need to look really good. Otherwise I just do mystic. So far so good. read more
