Everything about this place is top notch: the food, the vibe, and the people. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about vegan food and made fantastic recommendations. The hot pot was hands down the best curry I've ever tasted. The sauce had this gorgeous brightness and depth that made every bite unforgettable. The yam fries with miso gravy were exceptional, and the peanut sauce with the tofu satay was absolute perfection. The dinner ambiance was lovely and cozy and you can tell the servers genuinely enjoy their jobs. That kind of positive energy makes the whole experience even better. If you're in Calgary, vegan or not, The Coup is a must visit. Phenomenal food, phenomenal service, phenomenal atmosphere.

It's a great place for a date because you can walk around the area afterwards and get drinks, dessert, or shop. We shared the gyoza and the mushroom nigiri, which were both okay. I had the coup salad which was perfect and had a delicious dressing. It really hit the spot! I also had rosemary sweet potatoes which were perfectly cooked and were served with a vegan aioli which paired well with the sweet potatoes. My husband had the shawarma which was also delicious. I would definitely recommend this place!

I have to say, being a vegetarian nowadays is probably much easier than back in the old days (how…read morelong ago, can't say. Just making an assumption). Vegetarian food can be so versatile and it's no longer just tofu and greens, although a lot of mock meat is still made with tofu or soy protein components. I went on a vegetarian diet for 30 days and it actually went pretty well! I did not stuff myself with carbs this time around but I'll say this... tofu does not fill you up for long! And I don't like beans. So I would fail miserably if I were to give up meat for life. There's not many vegetarian restaurants in town, but one such one would be Ambrosia Veggie House, who serves Pan Asian Chinese Vegetarian Food. They are both vegan and vegetarian, and has a pretty vast menu! I find their location interesting as it's located on the side of Avatamsaka Sagely Monastery (華嚴聖寺) - I'm not sure if the monastery opened the restaurant. My family decided to try out the restaurant with me. Here's what we ordered: Spring Rolls - $4.75 I didn't try these but I imagine they were just simply stuffed with vegetables. Served with plum dipping sauce. Satay Skewers - $6.75 These were made with very firm soy nuggets and was on the spicy side! Crunchy Seaweed Sticks - $8.75 These were seaweed wrapped firm soy nuggets, deep fried, and coated in a sweet and sour sticky sauce. I enjoyed the chewiness of this. Mashed Potato Tofu Pockets - $12.75 Bean curd sheets stuffed with mashed potato and then deep fried - they were nicely flavorful but the bean curd sheets were way too chewy. I think if they can use something else, like a puff pastry to get that nice, melt in your mouth texture, then this would be a lot easier and enjoyable to eat. Jade Rolls - $12.75 I'm no stranger to this. These are vegetable stuffed bean curd rolls which I used to eat a lot of. I love that savoury gravy that atop it! Sweet and Sour Bean Curd Rolls - $12.75 This is pretty close to the real thing with all the right flavors and vegetables that normally come in a sweet and sour pork dish! Lettuce Wrap - $14.75 I thought the faux meat mixture was done really well (tasted really good on rice), but was a bit taken back with the five lettuce leaves they provided. Yes, five. We had eight people - six adults minus my two kids. I'm pretty sure lettuce is cheap... Stir Fried Mixed Greens - $10.75 A plate of Shanghai bok choy sauteed with a good amount of wok "hei". Eight Treasures Tofu Hotpot - $14.75 This was kind of bare. They didn't substitute anything for the "meat" so it was just tofu and vegetables. Shanghai Style Chow Mein - $10.75 Your standard Shanghai noodles, minus the meat. Assorted Fried Rice - $10.75 A simple vegetable fried rice with faux meat bits. This was particularly tasty for some reason, and my brother's gf mentioned that it was fried with a lot of oil... ah, that's probably why. And it also had really good wok "hei" too! This was actually a very tasty meal, but it is on the pricier side as portions were also on the small side. However, it takes a lot more effort to turn something non meat to make it taste somewhat like meat!

The restaurant was pretty spacious and not very busy on a Saturday late afternoon. The place however was a little warm inside, maybe the AC wasn't working as they had some fans on. We ordered the vermicelli dish and pad Thai as the staff told us it was their most popular dish. The pad Thai was indeed one of our favorite. It had a unique smoky flavor to it. We also ordered the pho and eggplant dish. The pho had a surprisingly rich flavor. I would definitely recommend the pho. Overall we were very pleased with our meal and left full with hardly any left overs.

Being a vegetarian, I have had a hard time getting pho that's flavorful but the chefs here have magic in their hands, they have put so much heart and effort in packing so much flavor in their broths! I had the Sate Tofu Noodle Soup, ah can't get the taste out of my head!! Such richness, the freshness of the house made tofu paired with soft rice noodles was just beyond perfection!! The Pad Thai was also delicious: it missed one thing: crushed peanuts which we usually get at Thai restaurants. The restaurant has a very calm and peaceful auto to it!!! Full of large plants and a meditation area, it's a nice getaway from the corporate hustle outside. The place closes at 8, so reach early.

I'm super pleased Calgary has most options than even a handful of years ago but I try to remain fair to that fact when I compare it to some of the places I've been in more veggie friendly cities. I'm not sure the fusion they've created was the best idea. It was a relatively confusing first couple trips here but they are nice enough to help you through (and good english unlike surrounding areas). I've settled into a rut of what I like here and that's probably because of the menu and the strange mix. The last few times I've stuck with a salt and pepper chicken combo. $10 for the chicken dish, rice or those fat noodles, 2 spring rolls and a REAL smootie ($1 more for jelly). Yummy "chicken" on some of my favorite noodles in asian cooking, spring rolls are fresh (with fake pork which is nice), a couple times I also got a soup with this, real fruit in the smoothies (I always make it bubble tea because I love bubble tea but loath the powered or syrup kinds) Very reasonable prices and large portions (often 2 comfortable meals for me) It concerns me that I am usually the only dinner in the place when I'm there... but I can't really figure out why. Minor criticisms: I arrived at at 1:50pm and the sign said it was closed until 3pm. I run into this from time to time with ethnic food but I LOATH places that close whenever they feel like it when I'm coming specifically to eat there but I guess it's a different set of values.

This restaurant has replaced the little whole in the wall formerly known as White Oak to those Calgarians who previously sought delicious and unpretentious vegan food. While its predecessor was humble, and quirky, and friendly, I do not have the same soft spot for veggie fusion express at all. The first time I went in with a friend after White Oak closed down, I had a terrible attitude, which I tried not to get in the way of enjoying my food. However, the menu is just so confused. It isn't right. It isn't anything. I do not want storebought pita and tzatiki sauce on the same menu as jumbled and confused vegan asian food, nor do I think vegetarian pizza is necessary (which I have heard from friends is terrible). Looking at the menu itself just makes me dislike this place. I ordered the salt and pepper chicken on noodles assuming it would resemble my old favourite dry ribs since it is made of the same protein but was severely disappointed. I will give credit to the staff being pretty friendly. I think that seeing my dismay, the server thought it would be a nice gesture to bring us out some random peanut sauce? However, this did not go well with my food at all which made me even a little more bummed. I am just rambling now. I am telling you that Veggie Fusion is here. I am letting you know that you have an option. But I recommend that you go nearly anywhere else first. It's cheap, and relatively fast, but if you are looking for Chinese Food, spend the extra money and go to Buddha's for some good solid eats, even if they just added a meat menu.

This is an incredibly mixed bag. I'll start with the negatives so I can end with the good stuff…read more As someone else mentioned, the wings are on the smaller side, but 15 for around $14 isn't a bad deal these days and frankly I'd prefer more smaller than less bigger. Personal preference, but obviously not everyone will agree with that. The bigger issue is that they are breaded. The pictures on the website make it look like they are traditional chicken wings, they definitely aren't and there is quite a bit of breading on them. This matters for a few reasons. The first is unless you are talking boneless "wings" a traditional chicken wing is unbreaded. If you serve a dish that is prepared in a non-traditional manner you should probably footnote that. The next issue is caused by the first. When you have a breaded wing that is then spun the breading gets soggy and you essentially end up with a chicken sponge. When your restaurant only functions as a takeout/delivery location that sogginess gets compounded by the breading taking on moisture from the steam. Hot soggy mess. The good? Well the Extra Hot sauce is actually extra hot! Which is great! Most places their hot tastes like ketchup and their "extra hot" tastes like ketchup that was stored near a bottle of Franks Hot Sauce. The sauce was well flavored and a great heat level. Other thing, their blue cheese is just so-so, but their garlic dipping sauce is outstanding. It almost reminds me of the garlic sauce that schwarma places serve. The lady working there was also really nice.
