This is a charming and spotless place with very friendly staff. We had street tacos, made with carne asada and birilla, along with beef enchiladas covered in red sauce. The salsa was superb, some of the best ever. To make it perfect for my taste, I added a few drips of lemon juice and a little salt. It was so good that I purchased some extra to take with me. A significant disappointment was the stale chips, something that had been noted in other reviews. It's hard to imagine why a simple chip warming oven wouldn't be a quick purchase to remedy this. The tacos were okay, but the birilla one was inexplicably tough. I'm not sure how that happened, since the meat was shredded, but there it was. The beef enchiladas were delicious, as was the red sauce. The accompanying beans and rice were nothing to write home about. The star of the meal was a huge slice of tres leches cake. Oh, my word~~how could anything be this good? I would drive quite a few miles to have just this, and it was worth every penny of the eight-plus bucks on the ticket. read more

In Kilgore at lunchtime, found this place and was not disappointed. Kinda quiet on a Sunday so seated right away. Menus were delivered quickly as were drinks with chips, Salsa and queso and they were excellent. Kinda pricy but when meals were delivered to table the amount of food explained the price. Wife had chicken enchiladas and they were loaded with meat, she said they were excellent. I had fish tacos and they were the best I've had in quite a while, stuffed with perfectly cooked fish and a slaw mix that was outstanding. A little lime flavor sauce on the side was perfect. Our server was great, the ladies in the kitchen were super friendly when my wife stopped to compliment them. It's a BYOB place too. Wish we lived closer! read more

It took about an hour to get our very under seasoned chicken fajita that cost $23. Do not recommend at all! Sat down to eat and we received stale chips. Although the salsa was good, eating it with stale chips was not. We asked for fresh chips and still got stale chips. Tried Calesa when in town visiting family, great experience! You could tell everything was fresh. It was all great, but the salsa was best I've had! Chips were crispy & only lightly salted, unlike most other restaurants where you're scraping off excess salt! Had a good dessert selection also. Waitress was very attentive. Restaurant was clean. Thank god for places like this... As a vegetarian and a picky eater i was able to modify my order with out an issue. Alot of places make it difficult. The ladies of the establishment were pleasant. They even had black beans available which many places in East Texas don't have unfortunately. I didn't order any meat so they gave me a discount which sold me and I am very appreciative. I inquired about making other dishes for my next visit and to my surprise upon receiving my order they made me a sample of the dish i inquired about for free... The hostess greeted us pleasantly as we entered. We were invited to choose our own table. Our waitress was prompt in taking our drink orders and patient while we decided on our meals. The salsa given us was homemade and very tasty. We were also given 3 squeeze bottles of different sauces. I had a small beef burrito with rice and beans. The burrito was good. The beef was tender and well seasoned. I thought the rice and beans were under seasoned. My other small complaint was the rice and beans could be served hotter (with heat). I like to be to have to "blow " on my food to cool it down. Just my preference. Overall, I think this is a good place to eat.
