Love this place. It has great beer, food and atmosphere. If you are a dart thrower this is one of the very few spots in Albany that has good quality dartboards(Steel tip)set up. I want to give the chili five stars for flavor as it was excellent!! However, it was served lukewarm. My husband had the chili burger and loved the chili as well and said the patty was fresh and hot. When we first arrived we chose to eat outside because there was a vague mold or mildew smell inside, but we ended up going back inside because we kept getting a very strong smell of a stale ashtray. This was our second visit. The first time was awesome! Great beer and great food. We had lunch a few weeks ago and they only had one person working. She was very friendly but overwhelmed. Hoping our bad experience at Calapooia Brewing Company was a one-off. An order of fish & chips and an order of gut bomb (tater tots covered in chili and topped with cheddar cheese) should not have taken 45 minutes. The "fresh" fish looked like it came from a box. The chips were good and they offer up Portland organic ketchup. The tater tots in the middle of gut bomb were not even warm. I couldn't pick up a tater tot with a fork - it fell apart. The chili was good. Almost $10 for a pint of 2 Towns cider that was made less than 20 miles away. Waitress was very apologetic about the delay and I totally understand. It happens sometimes. Doesn't explain the poor quality of the food and the overpriced beverage. I don't think we will be back, especially when there are so many amazing brew pubs in Albany and Corvallis. Sorry, Calapooia. The Pilsner was just meh. Half the food for our party came out quickly, the other half was nowhere to be found. Pretty good fries. Forgettable burger. I won't go out of my way to come here again. read more

Great local pub! We ride our bikes along the riverside trail in the summer and stop by the brewery for dinner. It can be a bit of a wait for your food to arrive so remember to bring along snacks if you have kiddos. The food is good and the beer is even better! read more

This cozy lil' riverfront brewpub was hard to find, especially in the middle of a torrential July downpour. But inside was a damn fine selection of different brews and one of the best cheesburgers I've had in a long time. The wheat beer was yummy; there was a seasonal berry brew I wish I could have tried, along with a good-looking IPA, too. I've heard tell that locals love to quaff their super-strong ales (up to 7% alcohol content in the Devil's Hole Stout...nice!). The V-class burger with A-1 and Tabasco kicked my devil's hole and then some -- in a good way (; Comes with tots on the side. I love tots! Calapooia is middle of the road, A-OK. I had expected more because I think their chili beer is outstanding and is a staple in my fridge at home. The ESB and Porter were pretty good, but none of it inspired me to fill a growler which is super rare. I enjoyed the BLT, but the tots not so much. They tasted as though they had freezer bite and also cost $1 extra. I love tots more than most things. They're not hard, please don't mess them up. Even with the up-charge, the prices are really reasonable here. The interior is small but they have a nice patio to enjoy when the weather's nice. Now this is an underrated gem in the rough! I never thought I would have found a little watering hole, just blocks away from the famed Linger Longer, which really fit my tastes... but alas the Calapooia is just my cup of tea; and the food is surprisingly decent as well. As for beer, my favorite is the spicy Chile beer, which also is the signature in their homemade meat chili. They also have house root beer on tap, most of the time, which is very tasty as well. As for food, you can't ignore the "Gut Bomb" for too many visits without trying it- its basically a mountain of tater tots with chili, cheese, sour cream, and onions on top- Yum! read more

If you ever find yourself in Albany, OR you have to come here. The beers are cheap ($3.50 for a pint), they offer tastings of anything on tap, and the food is plentiful. On any given night you will find a local band playing some old-timey country jigs which can provide an excellent people watching experience. The staff is friendly, prompt, and courteous. I even got a beer once that they filled about 90% full before the tap ran out. The bartender said she would come by and top me off later. 15 minutes later she came by with a fresh frosty brew filled to the brim, and I hadn't even finished my last one! Also the nachos are the best thing I have ever had at a bar and will easily feed 4 people for $5. Fantastic. read more

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Albany, right up there with Sybaris. A delightful staff, great beer, and a surprisingly good kitchen all contribute to the fun atmosphere this place has going on. I can't imagine having a bad experience after I step through the door to this place. I've had and enjoyed every beer on tap, and all the menu items are worth a go. We got here on the Saturday afternoon. Looking on Yelp to find a place to eat. With 48 reviews you think this was the place to eat. Not the case. We arrived at about 1:20 PM well past the lunch hour. I saw a few tables were the people were waiting for there food but nothing to unusual. At waiting for 30 minutes, I went up and asked if she could make our order to go. She was very nice and said no problem. You would think at this time the wait staff would understand that we are kind of pressed for time. You would also think after going back and talking with the cook she would of known that the order was going to be quite a while before it was even made. I that point you think she would of let us know... We sat waiting and waiting. It was not unit 2:05 PM---Yes 45 minutes. I went up and asked for our money back. She walked back to the cook and came back and said it was only going to be 8 more minutes...Really?... She did after a little work give me my money back. I have to say she got a little upset when I asked for my tip back also. But why would I tip that kind of service. Maybe if I wasn't late to where I was going at this point I would of waited but it wasn't just me. A group of about 4 was waiting an hour before they got served. Or should of got served. Pretty cozy place to grab a beer on a Saturday afternoon with (it seemed like) the locals. Stopped in here after the Cherry Pie Road Race (Cycling) and thoroughly enjoyed a Chili Beer (Medium-bodied and amber in color; minimally hopped and generously flavored with fresh Anaheim, Serrano, and Jalapeno peppers) and the Reuben. The menu states Reuben is "Our famous sandwich includes corned beef piled high on grilled marble rye bread, with sweet-hot mustard and loaded up with naturally fermented sauerkraut and melted Swiss cheese. We have it on good authority (our customers!) this is the best Reuben in town!" I couldn't agree more with the "authority" - the sweet-hot mustard added a great kick! read more

Think Old Lompoc in Portland in a Small town setting. When we walked in we passed an 80 year old woman leaving with a growler of beer. We knew the beer had to be good, lucky us it was thirsty thursday and the growler fills were $9. My husband was delighted by the IPA and I thought the food was great. I would suggest that you "make it chubby" and add the fries and tots or just go straight for the gut bomb. I must admit we did all three and my husband dipped his fries in the bacon-aise. I ordered the class V burger and it was quite tasty. All in all, great food, great beer, everyone wins! read more

I love going to this place! Maybe it's because i enjoy a good microbrew and food, maybe it's because i like to support the small business, or maybe even because i just love a great atmosphere but Calapooia is the culmination of all 3! Starting with the beers, already a great selection and always enjoyable seasonals to look forward to! One of my favorites is their winter seasonal Kringle Krack, a dark flavorful brew with a little extra alcohol percentage thrown in for that holiday spirit. For medium bodied i definitely enjoy their santiamber which has a refreshing taste that only a good amber can satisfy. And finally their chili beer. This is a spicy one that is delicious all by itself, but if it's too much, its great to mix with their devil's hole stout or 'pooia porter adding a little spice while bringing out the flavors of the darker brews. For the lighter selection i would recommend their simcoe springs and riparian ipas which also have very nice hops flavors as well! The good stuff doesn't stop with the beer though, as a part of a full menu, the delicious native nachos are a great snack to have with your beer and one of my favorites is the 'pooia pups which are bitesize chicken corndogs that come out with ketchup and 2 types of mustards for your enjoyment. The atmosphere is one of enjoyment and people just having a good time. There are darts to play, a covered outdoors with heat lamps, the occasional live music to drink your beer and eat your nachos to and there is always the opportunity to meet the people behind the scenes as the brewers will be out smiling and enjoying the products of their hard work (just in case you want to give a thank you for the delicious beer) This place is one of the reasons i enjoy what Oregon's small cities have to offer. Wow! We were trying to find an inexpensive restaurant to eat at on Easter. My family is quite frugal, so I used an online search engine to find a good restaurant. We found this place, and the food was delicious and quite inexpensive. I had an order of Buffalo Wings and an order of fries. The wings were crispy, and were drenched in a tangy sauce. The fries were delicious. We were able to here a live blues band, which (ironically) brightened my day. I give this restaurant five out of five. read more

Cool little brewery in an industrial area. I liked both their indoor and outdoor area. I can see it being hopping on some nights, with their open space begging for bands and dartboards on the wall. Beer was OK and service was fine considering I only got a beer. It was 1130am when I went in, so it wasn't exactly a hub of activity. I would be back to try one if their specialty IPA's braise the Riparian was just ok to me. They did have a cool option for regulars where you could store a logo beer glass to fill each time you come in.
