I'm very excited to write about this place since it's a great addition to the Albany scene it's got a distinctive, clean style, with wood everywhere and a very long bar. We tried it on its first Friday night and it was full of people that had come to check it out, and the service was extremely kind and eager to accommodate the dozens of taster trays that people ordered. They still need to gain speed, but that will come with time! It opens in the morning and closes late, because it's both a beer shop with microbrews from all over America (and more) and a tap house with 43 beers+7 ciders on tap They don't have a kitchen but they make complimentary fresh popcorn, and just like at Deluxe, you can order delivery or bring in takeout. Very cool new spot in downtown Albany. Huge tap list that includes some awesome local beers as well as beer from around the state. A great selection of bottles and cans to take to go also. If your timing is right you can find some rare liquid here. Pros: Bottle selection. Oh my god. Go here to find ANY type of beer to-go. Organized by style (IPA, wit, stouts, etc). Buy them in a six pack or single, which is really handy to sample one weird beer when you are unsure if you will like it or not. Place was clean, new, and decorated with modern, simple style like ALL bars now. This is somewhat of a con, as it gets soooooo old to keep finding reclaimed wood, leather seats, cookie-cutter pub tables and stools and "vintage style" bulbs. Cons: Service. Even with 40 beers and ciders on tap, it should not be so hard to quickly pour a beer for someone. Yet, if there is a single "flight" poured, the guys who pour seem to only be able to remember ONE beer at a time. I timed them. Each flight took about 5 minutes for them to fill. There were two guys working one I came in, then a third came on (albeit dragging ass- so, essentially he was useless). UNACCEPTABLE GUYS! Get your act together! When you multiply this by 6 flights, it gets stupid wait time in there. Just for a beer. I've seen flaming freakin' mixed drinks poured two at a time in half the time. People were waiting horrid amounts of time just for a simple beer to be poured. Keep in mind- there is NO FOOD here! So there is no food orders having to be put in... they literally take this long to PULL A NOZZLE OFF A WALL. NOT GOOD! For what this place was, it was also across the board WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. They are priced about one dollar higher than anywhere else I've been. To give you an idea- Coors Light? Four dollars! For a pint! Overall, no thanks. I'll come back here some time to buy some novelty beers, but I'll never be back for the sit-down atmosphere. read more

Great location and awesome selection. Albany has been sadly lacking for so long but No Rails makes up for the long wait--this place just blows the entire mid-valley away. There's nothing like it even in Corvallis (they're all so small, crowded and uninviting) and if given a choice I would choose this location over any other tap house in the mid-valley hands down. They have 50 taps (7 of which are nitros!) and 500+ varieties of bottles you can try on premises. James is always there, always chipper, always on point with his recommendations, always open for suggestions on what to add. When the taste was off on a beer they didn't question, replaced the beer for free and identified and fixed the issue with the lines (and this was basically day one they were open, so issues with lines are to be expected). The crowd is very mixed (large age range, students, professionals working on laptops, not a majority men or women) which is an unexpected but nice surprise in Albany. The building itself is beautiful but with a welcoming, comfortable feel with original brick walls showing from the renovation and wood accents everywhere. Very well thought out color scheme, layout and finishes-- even the bathrooms are tiled and immaculate. They have plenty of TV's, and have both Comcast and DirecTV so you better believe we'll be taking advantage of them getting the PAC12 Network this fall! Only a few minor suggestions/critiques, not worth dropping a rating for: More events like trivia, games, tap takeovers (I know they are still very new). A little more consistency on ID'ing people. It's a little eyebrow-raising to ID someone after you've served them (and you were already ID'd at the bar). I get that it's your livelihood and you are just being overly cautious though. This place is awesome! My partner and I come here whenever we want to grab a drink in town. There's a variety of seating options (bar top, high tables, low tables, cushioned seats, etc.) They have 50 beverages on tap! I believe these range from coffee to beer to cider. The building itself is super modern, very beautiful. They have multiple TVs if you're into watching sports, like my partner and I are. I love that the staff is pretty hands off (unless you sit at the bar top, then they will socialize with you the entire time). It makes for a fun place for a date. They do not serve food; however, they do allow outside food to be consumed inside. We have seen pizza and Vietnamese food (next door at Ba's) delivered to customers before. Walked around the shelves of bottles and cans, pretty good selection. This is my favorite tap house in town. Love the incredible bottle collection and the staff is great! We have been coming here regularly (multiple times per week) since they opened. So...not a bad place to kill a couple of hours while waiting for the 17:11 Amtrak to Seattle. Impressive ale and cider selection, no food but possible to order from downtown sandwich shops and pizza joints (Ciccola's is awesome). Spent an hour or so as the only patron, and at at the commencement of happy hour a group of about 6 entered to conduct a business meeting over a beer. Cool with me. They took a position at the opposite end of the bar, started talking biz schedules and logistics etc. Not my favorite ambient background, but what the hell, it's a (mostly deserted) bar at happy hour, not a library. But here's the deal, though...apparently I had been unconsciously tapping my foot on the bar footrail, in time to the playing music. I couldn't hear it myself, but whatever. Within about 5 minutes the biz group apparently complained to the barkeep about a tapping sound. The barkeep asks me to stop rapping the counter with my knuckles...which I had not been doing, but who knows, could have been subconscious. I say OK, sorry, brush it off with a joke. Three minutes later, my hands have been holding a book, and the barkeep and one of the pencil-necks come down to my end of the bar, at least 20 feet from the group, and stare at my feet. Busted. Look, like I said, it's a bar. Even if I HAD known I was tapping my foot, does this seem to you like the kind of thing that's inconsiderate, deserving a cease-and-desist from the bartender? Seriously, this group was being at least 40dB louder just in their bar-as-conference-room discussions. And sweet Jesus, they could have moved to any of 15 unoccupied tables. I thought about repeating the story of the Princess and the Pea, but just paid my tab, with a generous tip, and headed for the depot. Lots of other brew pubs in Albany. Just saying. read more

Selection is great you can come here many times without drinking the same beer. But management could use some work. 1st trip in they introduced a beer chiller. For free they will chill a room temp. Beer. Nice! 2nd trip they let us know that they are now charging $1 for the chiller. That's fine it was popular so they were trying to make some money off of it...whatever. 3rd trip I was told by the owner that the chiller was broken. Ok. I'll just get a tap beer. But not 5 minutes later the owners friend walks in and not only does he get his beer chilled but it's also free! Wth! When I asked the owner what was up he replied with "ya...sorry guy."
