Best Italian food in the Berks county area. Homemade, friendly staff reasonably priced. Will not have a better experience for the cost.

I find the food to be very well prepared and presented. The staff was friendly and efficient. The pricing is slightly above the local normal for this cuisine but then the experience and atmosphere is also slightly above the norm as well. It's not high end but it is not take out either. It fills a comfortable little niche in atmosphere and nuance that feels a tad nicer then diners and pizza shops. The bar can intrude a little on the atmosphere though. I do recommend you give it a try read more

Had an amazing dinner, bruschetta was amazing, my wife had absolutely perfectly well done pizza, and I had chicken parm with arabiatta spicy sauce. Everything was perfect ! Great atmosphere, and the family that owns it has had it since I was 8, and I'm 44 now. read more

My husband brought me to Calabria for my birthday! Both of our first time there and it was surprisingly good! We had several recommendations to eat here and they were all right. The food was DELICIOUS and the service was ON POINT!! It was a Tuesday so business was slow but she paid attention to each and every table equally and even brought out my dessert with a lit candle and some fun birthday wishes. We will definitely be eating here again! We shared the calamari as an appetizer, very good. I had the Chicken Parm - the portion was more than I needed but it's so good you want to eat it all! My husband had the Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo, scrumptious! And I had a perfect piece of Tiramisu to top it off. I have a feeling no matter what you order here it's going to be good. read more

Beware of this establishment... There food is acceptable; however, they misrepresent their products. We went there recently and when the bill came it was a lot higher than we expected. The prices on their menu and online were much lower and when we questioned it, they told us they didn't know if they wanted to reprint their menus just yet. They also didn't feel it was necessary to alert patrons of the increase or additional charges. Now, I truly understand that prices have gone up due to the pandemic, but they need to consider how a family could be put in an awkward position when they receive a bill much higher than expected. Example: Menu and online website state an order of meatballs were 2 meatballs for $2. When the bill arrived, we were charged $5 for 2 meatballs. That is a 150% increase. Come on now, there are people trying to make ends meet and you have the nerve to apply that type of increase. All the other prices increased as well, this just one example. Shame on you Calabria!! Got a burger for lunch and it was a burger that you could buy frozen from the grocery store and didn't taste good at all(couldn't even ask for it a certian temperature). And got upcharged for onion rings to only get three of them. read more

I NEVER KNOW WHERE TO START with PRAISES of this place that is ran by the most Amazing Italian Family (3 Generations) and their Amazing Staff (Hi Felicia, Phil, Giusep, Emanuel, Roxy, Marie, Andrea and anyone else I forgot!) but we're gonna try again: I guess 1st thing I'll Rave about, that over the 6 yrs since I've first gone in here...(on a Lark, by myself, after working late in the area, on a weeknight)...THIS ESTABLISHMENT HAS NOT CHANGED THAT MUCH (Surprisingly, even their Prices have not Jumped as high as most other Restaurants) AND...Most of the Staff are still the same which says a lot for how this Family treats their Staff! Just like Me! Just like Family! A few subtle changes like Outdoor Seating and maybe others were also for the better! IT'S STILL ONE OF THE BEST, 5+++ STAR ITALIAN RESTAURANTS FOR MILES AROUND! Other than our waitress, Emilia, who was super friendly and attentive, this place is very average. We had made a reservation ahead of time and arrived on time and they had "accidentally" given our table away to a larger party. So we ended up having to wait 15 minutes for them to clean and prepare a new table for us. What's the point of a reservation?! The inside is nicely decorated and homey. They have a very large menu of Italian foods and other selections like sandwiches. Bartender was a bit slow making our drink orders. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. It looked and tasted like warmed up frozen meatballs and a jar of Prego sauce were opened and dumped on a plate. I had to add a lot of cheese to make it edible. My mom ordered the special of shrimp in penne vodka sauce and that was very delicious. Our waitress brought out the owner to say hello to our table and she looked very uninterested to be there. Went here for the second time last night. The place was packed, but our server was efficient and pleasant. You sit close to each other, so if you're afraid of being in proximity to someone who is sick, this place is not the best in that regard. The food is good, not great. The portions are ample and every entree comes with garlic bread and a salad. The garlic bread tasted like buttered bread without garlic. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The salad is small and consists of romaine lettuce, tomatoes and dressing. The house dressing was tasty. My table got the eggplant Parm, chicken Parm, and spaghetti with meatballs. We also got the fried shrimp appetizer. All were good, but nothing exceptional. My main gripe is the price gouging that is going on here. Things are WAY overpriced. The chicken Parm was $26...very expensive for chicken, cheese, and noodles. The shrimp appetizer was $13. They were tasty but they look like the SeaPak popcorn shrimp you can get at a supermarket in the frozen section. Two people got wine and I got a soda. Our bill without the tip was $138. Very overpriced. We didn't get one, but I noticed that a personal calzone was $21...wow. It's Wernersville, not main line Philly. The food overall was tasty. It just wasn't worth the price, which is a shame. read more

Met with colleagues for an afternoon lunch meeting. I've eaten here severa times years ago for dinners and have always appreciated the good Italian food. The new decor is beautiful. The service was fine--but beware of the burger. One would think you'd get more than a thin, obviously prepackaged frozen and fried patty on a not-so-fresh bun for $9. I've had better from Wendy's. The fries were nothing special, but I was hungry so I at least ate them because the ketchup was good. Maybe I should have ordered pasta. I think Calabria's can do better. We dined here recently while camping in the area. It was the first eatery we came across on our way somewhere else. Obviously seeking casual and affordable dining we almost walked out once we walked inside and saw how upscale the place was. Fresh white linens on the tables, water served in stemware, beautiful Tuscan decor....imagine my surprise when I discovered this is more or less a pizza restaurant! And the place was pretty crowded. Fortunately we were able to secure seating without a wait. We had our toddler aged granddaughter with us who's on the small side yet no high chair or booster was offered. I struggled a little with the menu as anyone that follows me knows I'm not really a fan of Italian restaurants/pizza places. The had a large selection of pasta dishes which seemed in line price wise until I realized the addition of meat added to the cost, bringing a pasta dish to around $20. Aside from pasta and pizza they had subs, a few salads, and burgers which were all reasonably priced. Hubby and I ultimately decided on splitting a large pizza - half ham/pineapple for me and the other half meat lovers for him. Our granddaughter got a ravoli kids meal. The kids meal was a bit of a let down - for 3 small ravoil's (the size of Chef Boyardee) the cost was $5.95, which didn't include a drink or anything additional. Her milk was an additional $3 for 8 oz. The wait for our food was longer than average, but the place was packed, so we understood why. While our waitress did ask if we wanted her meal to come out first (we did) she didn't offer any crayons or anything to entertain her during the long wait. While we were disappointed in the kids meal the pizza was excellent! It was presented well, complete with a white paper doily on the stand. The crust was perfect in every way, crunchy on the bottom with soft air filled pockets in the crust. While the ham and pineapple topping wasn't the best I ever had the crust made up for it. The meat lovers side was out of this world! You could really taste the fennel in the sausage and all the flavors blended well without being overpowering. It was obvious someone with great skill handcrafted this pizza, even the ratio of sauce to cheese to topping was perfect! Service wasn't the best. Our waitress was very dry and didn't smile. Her thick Russian accent had us glued to every word to make sure we heard her correctly. We had to ask for our check....... twice. While the wait for our food was long, she never came by to tell us it would be out shortly. She also never came back to refill water or check on us. She dropped the ball totally when it came to my granddaughter by not offering a booster or crayons. Never the less we tipped her the customary 15% but if we had a choice wouldn't sit in her section again. First time here and was impressed by the food... quantity was awesome and the taste was excellent. One slight draw back was at first our waitress wore a trump mask, personally I believe personal political opinions should not be displayed at a work environment in public view. Towards the end of our meal three visually trump supporters showed up with trump merchandises and immediately our waitress evolved around them trying on hats and scarfs and got another waitress involved in on trying this stuff on. After awhile we had to get our waitress attention to pay our bill. We noticed other dinners were watching this spectacle and taken back at the show I worked in the bar/restaurant business and one thing is you NEVER. display your personal political opinion... you are there as a neutral person serving people for their dinning experience. We ordered two personal Neapolitan pies last night to try out their pizza. One was a white pizza and the other was half sausage. They know how to make pizza, thin crust, slice stays straight when you lift it and great taste. Being from Brooklyn and growing up in North Jersey this was some of the best pizza I have had and along with Tosco's, they could both compete with NJ pizza. read more

We have lived in the area for a year now and thought it would be good to stop by and check them out. Was a little disappointed in that it was not a super child friendly place. Awful. We stopped for a pizza - ordered the Calabrese. We got our drinks fairly quickly, but our server avoided our table for over 45 mins. When she brought the pizza almost 50 minutes after we ordered, we asked for a box right away. The pizza was no better than frozen. In fact, the crust tasted like a frozen pizza. The sauce had no flavor. Despite the owner helping to clear nearby tables, our waitress said as we left that he apologized. Not to us. Never again. The building is very charming and lured us in. This place has been around forever and when it was closed due to fire for over an year, we were all anxious to see the new and improved. The building is beautifully restored and they did a nice job remodeling inside completely. Since I had never eaten there before the fire so I can't say the food is better. First of all, inside was ice cold and I hate to eat in a restaurant that is cold. We were moved to another table that was not under the ac vent. With my dietary restrictions ordered ala cart. I pointed at the side of vegetables which was $5 and a side of grilled chicken which was $4 and a side of marinara sauce and told the waitress these are what I wanted. They were just that, nothing to speak of and that's ok. But when the bill came and saw that they charged $18, same as the chicken parm dinner, I questioned it to the waitress. She went back to talk to the chef who said "that's what we charge." They also charged for the side of salad I ordered which then should've been included in the dinner just like all the other dinner plates. Just the fact they couldn't care less and didn't budge, we were very turned off by this restaurant. But seeing they were. Yay and seem to be enjoying themselves, they must be doing something right. read more

This is one of my favorite local restaurants. But if it wasn't local I'd drive a long way. The food is excellent.... Authentic... Italian Mama in the kitchen authentic... Italian cuisine. I'm so thankful to staff & owners that they haven't lost that sense of friends & family with its patrons after opening to the public. It's such a lost art in the restaurant industry and I can't ever remember feeling more welcome at a restaurant. While a certain portion of the staff is still very green, they are family & friends of the older staff therefore still have that sense of customer service and personal touch that makes Calabria's so special. The food is very good however the wait staff is the opposite, very bad. We had 2 recent visits and both time our server was slow & inattentive. Tonight she was unaware there was a special on the menu, complained to is she had too many tables and just really shouldn't have been there. A sense of discord among the servers was apparent as well. Food wait time was extremely slow. Do not take children here as they can't wait that long for service or food. Our food was delivered to us in piece meal as she remembered? The parking lot was spacious and the restaurant was easy to find. It's located directly off of rte 422. The small spaghetti and meatball meal was delicious and at at the right price. The meal included a small salad and garlic bread too. The amount of food was perfect and not overwhelming. The floors were clean and the tables had tablecloths. Our waitress was pleasant and did not rush us through. The bill included the suggested 20% based on the pretax cost instead of the post tax, which is the correct calculation. I highly recommend this restaurant, you won't be disappointed. read more

I have dined at Calabria many times before and after this experience, I will not be going back. My boyfriend and I made reservations here on Valentines Day. We were sat promptly at 6:30 PM. There was a couple that had arrived after us (without reservations) that was sat shortly after us. I asked if we could order their famous chicken parmesan, but since it was not on the fixed menu for the evening, I was not able to order it. Our waitress was very clear we could only order from the fixed menu. So we ordered spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna. Fast forward over I an hour later and at 7:45 PM we had still not received our meal. So I had gotten up to go to the bathroom and saw the couple that arrived after us was finishing up eating their chicken parmesan!! Not only did they receive their food before us, they were allowed to order chicken parmesan from the regular menu and left before us!! Our food finally came out around 8:05 PM and we left at 8:30 PM. I understand it's Valentine's Day, but waiting an hour and a half for spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna is absolutely ridiculous. The restaurant was not even that busy - there were several open tables in the restaurant throughout the night. I have worked in the service industry for over four years and this service was completely unacceptable. There was no apology for the inconvenience. I have tried this restaurant 3 times since moving to Pennsylvania, it has been DELICIOUS each time. The first order was for potato gnocchi in a vodka sauce and it was delicious. The owner and I chatted for a few moments and he was very genuine and friendly. My second order was lasagna with meat sauce. The side salad was enjoyable and very large so it too up too much room for the monster piece of lasagna that was served. I also got the sampler appetizer and shared with the group. Eggplant fries were a surprise that ended up being a favorite. The dipping sauce was very complimentary to all the samples. The sampler appetizer could actually pass for a meal in size. The highlight of the meal was dessert although the lasagna is hard to beat. The Limeoncello dessert is a MUST... it was so delicious and refreshing and comes in a champagne flute that you can keep. When we walked in and told them that we had a party of 5, they told us next time make a reservation because they only have one big table and if they would have had it reserved, we would have had to wait. This place just reopened after a fire a while back. Interior is nicely done. Tables are a little close for comfort, but doable. That's about it for the good. We spent over an hour in this place with no food and only one drink refill. Our order was taken promptly, but the food took way to long to come out. We had two kids with us and they're meals came out 30 minutes before ours. The kids meals are small and not worth the price. The menu says they are for 12 and under, but don't even consider the kids menu for a child over the age of 6. When the adults meals finally came out the waitress forgot part of the order. Best kept secret in Wernersville (west of Reading). Casual atmosphere, friendly service, and great food with large portions that is very reasonably priced! My favorite is their lasagne!! Delicious!! They are usually quite busy and have a loyal following. We always make a reservation when we want to go there. Suggestions: Wish they would upgrade their dinner salad from a bowl of plain iceberg lettuce to mixed greens. It is time for them to invest in the property and expand.
