I came here for breakfast because I had to try for myself the sandwiches that caused so much hype online. I got both the OG breakfast sandwich and the biscuit sandwich. The OG was good. It was almost like a grilled cheese with eggs and avocado. Will I get it again? No. The biscuit was really good but is it the best biscuit? No. I did think the biscuit was a bit on the drier side but flavor wise, it was good. I also added the "hot sauce" to both sandwiches and idk why people call it a hot sauce because it was more like a sweet bbq flavor to me. There was no kick to it. As a southerner, I'm always suspicious of places that claim to make a good biscuit. This IS a good biscuit. It is not really a southern biscuit, which is where the "CAL" in the Calabama makes sense. The biscuits we grew up eating in the South aren't this crumbly and well done. But it's certainly a fair representation and maybe a smidge better than one you'll find at any fast food place. I felt the same way about the pimento cheese - it's not bad at all. But if you've spent any time in a real southern home, you won't recognize this almost smooth spread as proper pimento cheese. Still, it has a good kick and made a nice dip. But let's be clear, the influencers filming themselves whilst making moaning noises and slathering hot sauce on biscuits are doing it for show. The food is ok but it is not anything to get excited about. And that hot sauce is just a slightly more liquified tabasco/cholula mix. Don't get me wrong this place is good yet it didn't hit the spot and was expecting the food to give me more of a wow and honestly for the price as well. This place was so good! It's in a "groovy" part of the city with lots of eclectic people walking around, IYKYK (typical LA). Service:I was concerned about service based on some of the reviews but that's why you have to go and judge a place for yourself. We had no issues. B: Location: There is NO bathroom or inside area to eat. There's only outside bar style seating on a semi busy street corner. BUT.... Across the street is the Liberation Cafe. We got our food from Calabama then went and got pretty great service and drinks from Liberation. A bathroom and nice tables are inside. Food: A+: Breakfast biscuit. Warm, moist buttery biscuits with egg and cheese! Next time I'll try the breakfast sandwich. A+: The dipping SAUCE. Hot sauce + honey was insanely good. A+: extra side biscuits for later. So good... Menu: A. Although the menu is simple (and handwritten) it hit the spot. I read that someone else said they don't do modifications but luckily this time I didn't have any. Would recommend stopping by, their biscuits are really stellar. Tall, thick, buttery. We tried their plain biscuits and a biscuit sandwich adding bacon and getting a hot coffee. Even by itself the biscuit stands out though we were happy to take biscuits home and add our own jam and honey. And the sandwich was also stellar, the hot sauce is more of a BBQ-y maple-y affair but tasty all the same and a fair addition to a sandwich or plain biscuit. Coffee was more or less diner coffee but no marks against it. Welcoming service, very helpful and sweet. Happy they have cute little bar area and things felt laid back. Prices were high-ish but not RELATIVELY high so not holding it against them either. I don't know what the sauce was, but it was smokey and sweet, and kind of Korean or Chinese or something. Like a super smokey version of duck sauce, only not as thick. Whatever it is, it really made this sandwich something special, one I absolutely want to have again. Now, a couple thoughts about the place itself (not criticisms, just things you should know). It's a small operation, and everything is made fresh, so don't go if you don't have time to wait. I didn't have long to wait, maybe 15 minutes, but when you see a sandwich stand, you think it'll be super fast, and this ain't. That said, the staff were friendly, warned me it would be a moment, and were genuinely apologetic that it did. There's also a limited amount of seating. It's just a bar with a couple built-in chairs. The drink menu is somewhat limited if you like coffee drinks. They just have coffee. No decaf, no espresso, no iced lattes with oat milk and a splash of ginger root extract or whatever. There is a coffee place right there on the corner, but I didn't ask if it would be okay to go and get an iced latte with oat milk and a splash of ginger root extract or whatever and bring it over. I'm guessing it's fine, but I would ask first. There's a parking lot, but it's the kind that can easily get cramped. Lastly, ask for extra napkins. You'll need them. read more

The eggs were pillowy soft, crispy bacon, oozy american cheese, the smooth avocado and the buttery grilled soft bread worked harmoniously together. Along with that Calabama hot sauce that had a hint of sweetness was perfection. The owner was there and she is as sweet as she is on her Insta. Can't believe there are any silly-low ratings for this lovely woman and her first brick-and-mortar restaurant but, alas, there are a couple... I mean, hers is the great Rocky story in the restaurant world of hustle and tussle. For those who don't know it yet and still wake up under a rock on the daily, I'll Cliff Notes it for you: Cara moves out here from Alabama and assimilates into the City of Broken Dreams, works in the service industry only to lose her gig when the pandemic hits. Back against the wall as so many of us were, she goes into business for herself making southern breakfast sandwiches in her apartment and selling them to customers directly. Now here is the catch, in her brilliant pivot, what became in turn a brilliant move of marketing, she remains safe by serving them to what becomes legions of foodie fans by lowering them IN A RED BUCKET from her 4 th floor apartment! That's right, a bucket with its handle tied to a rope is lowered off a fire escape to the seals, er patrons, below... word spreads and because the sandos are both artful and delicious, a star is born. It doesn't hurt that Cara is a gregarious blond bombshell with southern hospitality oozing out of every pore. I missed out on "the drops" back in the day but have become a customer and fan of her hutzpah and mettle and those sandwiches? That "Bama Hot Sauce?" It's all so good. The buttery grilled sando is never released without Cara's personal inspection as to it being just right, and every bite delivers the very same taste from first to last... creamy soft, fluffy scrambled eggs, avocado slices, caramelized onion, bacon if you so desire, etc. Just get here and enjoy the phenomenon... oh, and hey, they just started making biscuits and biscuit sandwiches that look amazeballs!!!
