I went on family night. I had a blast with my family skating around. If I could recommend something it would be: gear the songs to the ears of the listeners. I found it inappropriate to be listening to sex themed songs while my 4 year old was skating. I heard all types of inapropriate songs during family night. Other than that, it was great. read more

Cal skate is a fun place to go to but there are some negatives. My daughter and I where playing a game and it was spitting out our tickets and the lady tried taking our tickets away and we had 1,00 from other games. The beginning of our experience was good, but then we ordered food.....they burned our mini pizzas (that took 15 min to burn) and let our hot dog get cold. The WORST customer service! The manager giving our refund was no better. The only good employees with actual customer service is at the skate station. My review of a birthday party at cal-skate. We had to arrive 10 minutes before the party to check in, and the lobby was packed and we waited outside for about 20 minutes. You are supposed to drop off any gifts and the cake at the window. I didn't want to hand over my homemade 2 tiered cake. Think cake boss. My first time making anything like this. I made a cake from scratch that was very detail oriented. I spent weeks making gumpaste flowers for the cake. I wanted to be the only one to handle my cake. Didn't want someone that hates their job and doesn't care about anything touching something I poured my time into. Everyone on staff looked at me like I was insane. It was very important that my cake remain intact for my daughters big day going from a child to a tween. I asked the other employees that I needed to take my cake to the back room. They said no one does this, and said we usually handle it. They showed me to the back room that was old and dirty and had a musty mold smell. The cake went onto a rickety rack. I was scared it would be hit by passing by employees. My cake hardly fit onto the small rack. We finally got into our room and the pizza was already cold. The pizza was on a fold up table on the outside of the room. It had the drinks, plates, and cups on it. We had about 10 minutes to serve pizza and eat it and my husband didn't even have time to eat any pizza. I didn't get to finish mine, and it went into the trash. I had to go get the cake from the back room. By the time I was able to serve it, we didn't have enough time to eat it. They were picking up the room as we were having the cake. Everything felt extremely rushed. The hostess was hastily grabbing things off the table to place onto the table on the floor, and she hit the plate that had my gumpaste flowers on them. They hit the ground and shattered. I was going to save them. I spent many hours making them, and when dry they are like glass. The sugar is very thin and fragile when dry. The hostess gave a very fake I'm sorry. I sat there upset and silent. There wasn't anything I could do at that point. I tried to rush to pick everything up, since they were in a hurry to boot us out. The hostess had her hands inside all the paper cups and when she placed the drinks onto the floor; she never gave us any cups for the kids to drink out of. We had 3 pitchers sitting there, and no way to drink out of them. I brought my own knife and cake server. I'm happy I did so. The place was very dirty and the hostess never cleaned her hands. I'm happy I didn't have her touching my cake. I served everything. The hostess came back many times after handing us the bill. I wasn't ready. I was holding my infant and trying to deal with other things. It seemed very rude and unprofessional to keep hounding about the bill. We spent 170$ and didn't have enough time, and everything was rushed. There wasn't even time to open gifts in the room. I don't see how if anyone had little kids, how that would be practical. They would never have anytime to eat. Cal-Skate needs more rooms or more times inside the rooms, and they need to not over book. It wasn't worth 170$, maybe 90$. Employees don't care, because they are making minimum wage and see many people each day. Your party is 2.5 hours long and you only get 30 minutes or less in the party room. It would be great to have the room the whole time you have the party booked. The establishment needs a facelift. The floors were old and patched, skates all old. Looks the same as it did 20 years ago. All in all, not a great place for kids. Have a party some place else. It will be rushed and not enjoyable. read more

I had my sons 5th Birthday Party at the Mini Golf recently. It was as perfect as it could be. Kids and parents had a blast! Our hostess (yes the Birthday package comes with a host/hostess) was awesome. All smiles and very helpful throughout. You can get Round Table pizza which is awesome! Came here for my nieces 7th Birthday party. The kids had fun, regular roller skating and a few video games. My complaint was the slow snack bar! Stood in line for 1/2 hour to get a drink. I don't mind waiting for hot food....even still, it seemed like too long of a wait for a pretzel or hot dog or nachos! The snack bar seemed like it use an efficiency overhaul. The staff overall was friendly and helpful in all aspects from skate rentals to even the apologetic cashier at the snack bar. The girls had a great time, so I guess that is what counts! read more

The golf course needs better lighting for night time playing. Some of the holes are well lit, but most are not. I kept tripping on the bumps of the course that were in the dark. They have patched a lot of areas needing work but there are still some really worn areas. I've been to some other miniature golf courses that have way better decor and obstacles. You know the windmills and the castles... the typical golf course stuff. The price is good though. read more

Cal State is a cool place to go every now and then... Especially if you like to skate, or better, like to watch people who think they can skate... Hehe. This place is falling apart and poorly managed. Bathrooms are gross and during the busy holiday break they had basically no one working. Only 1 person at consssions, 1 person handing out skates and 1 person on the floor. 70% of the games were broken, and if they weren't broken they didn't give tickets. Concessions were out of everything we wanted and the people working were just not nice. They didn't want to be there and you could tell. Such a bummer! read more

I've been coming to cal skate since I was a kid and I have so many great memories here. This was a safe place for me to get dropped off and meet friends, as well as make new friends. This gave me a sense of autonomy as well as a skill that I could focus on at an early age. On top of that it kept me active and got me to exercise without even knowing it. When I come now, not much has changed (in a good way). It's still a fun, stimulating, and safe environment. Keep in mind, a lot of the staff are really young and this is most likely their first customer service job, so they may not have nuanced all of the niceties that you might hope for. For the most part though, they are pleasant, accommodating, and like most people, if you are kind and patient with them they will bend over backwards to meet your needs. Pro tips: come early if you want the nice skates, especially on busy days like Saturdays and Sunday's (especially if you want rollerblades). Request songs! One of the coolest things as a kid was to get a song that YOU chose to play and skate to. Try the churros, they're actually pretty bomb. Lastly, call and confirm their hours before you show up. Sometimes the space gets rented out for special events so it's always a good idea to double check their hours. read more

Wow, what a disappointment. If there was any other option for roller skating in town, this place would be out of business in no time. I used to go to Cal Skate as a child and was excited to take my nephew there. On the positive side, it was just like it was when I was a kid. On the negative side, it was just like it was when I was a kid- twenty-five years ago. The place needs a serious face lift. It obviously hasn't been remodeled in years. It's depressing. It is dirty and in disrepair. The carpet was stained and the restrooms looked like something out of a dive bar. I felt uncomfortable sitting on the scuffed and dirty benches.The mini golf course, which is a new addition, had torn fake grass and in places we were forced to putt on concrete. I've played miniature golf numerous times and I can say with confidence that was the worst course I have ever played. It makes me sad because the place has the potential to be so cool. I really wish the owners would invest in remodeling it and returning it to its former glory. I would be embarrassed to run such an eyesore. read more

Pretty much the only place in town for decent mini golf and rollerskating. The roller skating rink is incredibly dated (I get an early 90's vibe) and needs some definite TLC in certain areas (the carpet and lighting, especially). Not a bad place, but could be so much better with better focus on modernizing the atmosphere. Prices are actually pretty affordable for practically being a monopoly. Highly disappointed. DO NOT book a party online. The times that THEY offer are not all actual times you can have a party. I booked my sons party online, invited a bunch of kids. So about 4 days before the party I called with a couple questions. First girl asked when my party was and when I told her she informed me they don't have parties at that time. She put me on hold while she was "looking into it". I got hung up on. So I called back and spoke with Mitch, he let me know that there online booking system is flawed and the time they offered is not valid. So he offered to reschedule. I am working, going to school, and have 3 kids. The party time I set was honestly the only time that worked for me for like two weeks. Not to mention it's his birthday, who wants to have there birthday party totally late? My son was so excited to have a skate party, and sadly it could not happen. I paid a $50 deposit and they are unable to honor the party time given. For this it seems totally reasonable to get my deposit back. Mitch said he would have someone call me in the morning from upper management? He said he was the manager but to figure out how to give me my money back someone higher would have to do it. So right after this I re-invite everyone to a birthday party at the park instead. No big deal, a pack of disappointed kids that really wanted to skate will now sweat their asses off at the park because it's like 100 degrees. So the next morning I get a call from a woman who's name starts with a K, can't recall. I explain what happened and that I would like my deposit back, the fault is theirs. She puts me on hold to speak to the manager. ummm I thought you were??? She gets back on and tries to offer me skating at a different time earlier in the day and they would still honor the room time. yeah I am working and this is ridiculous. I already had to invite everyone somewhere else, I am not going back again. So there way to make up for it is a $50 gift card to cal skate. Well, it's better than being out so I'll take it. When I went to pick it up the person that gave it to me was so unfriendly. He knew nothing of it so this was obviously just his regular attitude. Not very welcoming. The website needs to be fixed, if you know this is a problem why not fix it? And you should be able to speak to a manager, it always felt like no one has a clue what's going on. I am thankful for the gift card but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth when your kid is disappointed and you can't get a refund for their error. Won't be booking a party again. read more

This is probably my favorite place to hang out! I am one of the regular kids who hang out there and the quality has always been in an uphill direction. I know all of the staff there and they're all extremely knowledgeable with everything including skates, wheels, etc. and they are all extremely nice and courteous, and when I walk through that door, I always have a smile on my face when I walk through and they greet me with a smile and they act like they like what they are doing and it is wonderful to know that the only rink in town is being kept wonderfully and trying to stay a bit retro as well, which I like. read more

My reviews of Cal Skate routinely get deleted for some reason. The place is run down. If you go, count the number of light bulbs that work and you'll find that the number of burned out bulbs is much more than the number of functioning bulbs. The place smells bad, the carpet is disgusting, and there are piles of broken tables at the far end of the rink. The skating surface is nice, but other than that it appears the place has received zero upgrades in the last decade. Too bad... read more

I went to the Mini Golf last night (Friday, 11/13/15) with a club from my school and faculty. I usually don't post reviews, but felt I needed to make one here because the young man working behind the counter was extraordinary. He was extremely nice and very helpful, and even took a picture for my group. He constantly had a smile on his face and came off as genuinely kind person. Not to mention he was a younger guy working on a Friday night, and still managed to be in a positive mood. The course itself was enjoyable, but there was one or two holes which had slight tears in the carpet that could interfere with your shot. Unless you're really into putting, it shouldn't be a bother. There was some arcade games and air hockey inside, and they even had an ice cream bar. At the end of the course there is a machine to return your ball which will give you a chance to win a prize to be claimed inside (we won two free ice creams). read more

well my daughter was 2 the 1st time she went skating and her 4th bday was comming she told me mommy i want to have a skating party for my bday i said ok happily and booked the party. we got there and they kept all the presents for us and bday cake was great got right in and started skating. r party was running about 10 or 15 mins late cause late pizza delivery which was no biggie but then i looked at the boxes and saw they werent round table like was told to me and on web page i asked what happened they said like it was no big deal oh we changed to pizza from a rest. down the street. i told them well i paid 20 bucks a piece for round table not generic pizza. the worker then told me let me call manager and ill get back to u i said ok. then party started and hostess was great but i felt very rushed threw party like they were trying to make up for being late on parties by shortening mine then given bill and they took off 25 bucks but honestly didnt feel like that was enough we barely ate 1/2 of one of the three pizzas they tasted like cardboard had i know they didnt have round table i might not off even had party might of just skated and had bday at my house. i really do like this place dont get me wrong but was i guess just really disappointed. read more

If I could give this places no stars I would. But one will suffice. Never come here for a birthday because you will be ONLY paying 40$$$ to bring in a cake. Can't imagine how much it would be for pizza and cake. The manager on site was the only person around, we had to wait to get checked in, had to wait to get our skates, had to wait to get into the dirty gross room just to have our cake which like I said we spent 40$ just for the room, didn't even come with anything. The "manager" was absolutely miserable and just looked like he hated his job. The kiddos had a blast but being the grown adults we are having to deal with this was annoying. Luckily he gave my son extra tickets (he had 36 tickets) bumped it up to 100 woohoo get a few prices of candy I could have gotten at the dollar tree. This place is just going down hill. And then the price we paid to get in for three of us was almost 30$ I mean at least class this place up a bit so we get our money's worth... oh and if you want to skate there you get 2 hour incriminates and then you have to pay even more if you want to stay!!!
