I've shopped at this Wegmans numerous times, both in person and via Instacart. Generally speaking,…read morethe produce here is fresh, reasonably priced, and the overall experience is unproblematic. I am part Russian and occasionally crave pierogi (vareniki); Wegmans is one of very few stores that sell fresh refrigerated pierogi (these are much better than the frozen ones). The last few times I instacarted these, I put them in my fridge and a few days later, after opening, I noticed they were moldy. One time I even put them directly in the freezer, and when I opened them they were moldy. I kind of gaslit myself and figured it was my fault for waiting too long to cook them. Well, yesterday I went to Wegmans in person and saw stocked moldy pierogis!! I mean several of the packages had visible mold. I cannot believe Wegmans is selling these, and clearly this is an ongoing issue for months. This really makes me question buying fresh food from Wegmans, given this wasn't a one off. Hopefully this is just limited to the pierogis, which is a specialty product that I assume doesn't have high turnover. Nonetheless buyer beware!! Wegmans, please fix!

Folks working there engage with customers and ask if you need anything. Very well organized and nice layout. They sell actual booze, like vodka, tequila. Not in VA, lol. Only problem, if you misplaced your parking pass, which is free for first 2 hours, then you gotta pay. I could not find my ticket to validate, so I had to pay. Sucks. In VA, you can park all day. I used to go to Wegmans after work, get a meal and study for hours. Not here. Gotta pay to park. I think they ought to revise the parking situation.

They were also responsive via email for a question I had which I really appreciated. They sometimes have vegan whipped cream available but I asked for extra strawberries instead since I wanted it to feel a little healthier for breakfast. I liked that it came with a little bottle of maple syrup. I ended up keeping it for later because it was sweet and delicious enough for me without. They only have challah French toasts on weekends. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! I have only ever come here for the bagels, but know they have breads, pastries, and are known for their panda cake pops. The people in front of us were ordering them and said they were fresh. I always get the bagels from here, while on the smaller size, they are really good. I argue that DC does not have good bagels, but these are some of the better options that we do have in the city. Get a dozen for the best deal or if you do not mind getting the ones from the previous day, those are the best deal at $7 for an assortment of 6. Pop them in the freezer and they are just as good. Service Quick and easy since I was grabbing bagels to go. The staff was helpful with pointing things out. Ambiance A few places to sit inside, but if it is nice I would recommend just going to the zoo. It is across the street and way better to eat in front of watching the animals than the busy street.

First thing to note: even though it's in the museum, it's free to enter. This location has a much smaller storefront and menu/selection than the others though which was disappointing! So I was relieved to see they had the matcha kouign amann and black sesame mochi roll (Mar 2023 exclusive) which was what I came for! Servers were also friendly and helpful! There's no seating inside, so use a table right outside (in the museum's courtyard). Onto the food: Matcha kouign amann had a great matcha flavor and texture! But I think it would have benefited from being more bitter because it was quite sweet for a matcha pastry. The black sesame mochi roll had a great texture! But it was also very sweet which threw me off because it normally should have a nuttier taste. Overall, glad I got to try Saku Saku but the pastries were too sweet for me (and I have a sweet tooth...).

The bakery is open to the public, even if you don't buy a ticket for the museum. And while it's small, it's marvelous to be able to get these first-class baked goods without trekking out to Cleveland Park. Besides the pastries, they've got a small fridge with bottled drinks and some pretty tasty looking egg salad sandwiches. They've also got a set up that looks like it's for you to doctor your coffee (sugar, stir sticks) but I forgot to ask if they actually serve drinks too. On this visit I got a couple of cookies and a day old kouign amann, which they sell for 40% off. Everything was beautiful and delicious -- my co workers and I especially enjoyed the marble tahini cookie, which looks like it might be swirled with black sesame too. The stuff isn't cheap but it felt worth it easily. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more!

Sababa serves authentic Israeli and Mediterranean cuisine with amazing ingredients and bold, fresh flavors. The menu is designed for sharing, making it easy to try a little bit of everything. We started with several small plates, and they were all fantastic. The Israeli salad was crisp, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The roasted carrot salad was a table favorite, and the fried Brussels sprouts with cinnamon yogurt completely stole the show for me. The combination of flavors was unexpected but perfectly balanced. For my entrée, I had the lamb kebabs, and they were cooked to perfection. The steak kebab was another favorite at our table, and two of our friends shared the Jerusalem Mixed Grill, which was also excellent--especially the beef kofta. The portions are on the smaller side, but after sharing several appetizers, they felt just right. If you're extra hungry, the Mixed Grill could easily be enjoyed by one person. The service was phenomenal from beginning to end. We were warmly welcomed, checked on throughout the meal, and genuinely felt taken care of. One thing I especially appreciated was how clearly the menu labels vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. As someone who is gluten intolerant, I always notice and appreciate restaurants that make dining easier for everyone. This was easily one of my favorite meals during our trip. Every dish was thoughtful, flavorful, and beautifully executed. I would absolutely come back and highly recommend it to anyone visiting DC.

The hummus is impossibly smooth, swirling with high-quality olive oil. Our server, Kristin, was sooo pleasant! Fast and efficient.

I would go for that alone, but unfortunately for me, everything else is also amazing. I live in Adams Morgan, so I have another neighborhood bakery that I frequent simply because it's closer. Rose Ave is still fairly close, and I go pretty regularly, but somehow I had never taken my parents there. On their most recent visit, we happened to be nearby and stopped in. My mom was genuinely annoyed with me. Not actually angry, obviously, but after trying everything she basically wanted to know why, if Rose Ave was this close to where I live, I had been taking her to the other bakery all these years. Apparently I had been depriving her of what she now considers the best bakery she's been to in DC. (For the record, I refuse to pit two excellent bakeries against each other. There is room in my life for both.) I've tried the breakfast sandwiches, several of the filled pastries, and plenty of the more elaborate creations, and everything is fantastic. But oddly enough, one of my absolute favorites is their simple vanilla donut. There is something perfect about it. It isn't overwhelmingly sugary, but it's still sweet, soft, delicate, and just feels like the perfect little treat. Conveniently, my doctor's office is also nearby, so I have developed a very mature healthcare system in which I schedule morning appointments and reward myself afterward with Rose Ave. I'm pretty sure doing responsible grown-up things for my health cancels out the sugar. I have not asked my doctor to confirm this.
