This is the only standing Kulu Kulu and I hope this place does not close, or if it does relocate, come closer to Central Oahu where the rent is cheaper, haha (hint). This location is on the outer edges of Waikiki on Hobron Lane in Eaton Square. I rarely venture to Waikiki, and if I do make the dreaded drive to "town", this place and Kan Sushi will be the only regular places where I will make my stop(s), because its so worth it. I've had a long-standing love-affair with Kulu Kulu from the Shirokiya Food Court location with it's waffle bears and Hello Kitty waffles, the takeout Nama Chocolate cups stocked at Mitsuwa Marketplace and now here, in town. The Ube Coconut Mousse $6.95 blew our minds, it was THE best tasting thing, ever. Both the ube and the coconut were not cloying, and as with all of their treats, not overly sweet either. That's why I love Japanese pastries, they get the sweetness just perfect and I have no idea how they mastermind that ratio! Strawberry Panna Cotta $5.95 was creamy, flavorful, delicious and surprisingly light and refreshing for such a creamy dessert. I normally don't get this kind of combination of flavors, and it tasted like something you'd get in a Michellin-rated establishment. Looking back at the photos, I see vanilla bean seeds in the panna cotta, so every loving detail and nuance shows through with each mouthful. Nama Chocolate $5.75 is my go-to chocolate LOVE. It's cut into cool creamy semi-sweet squares dusted with cocoa and it melts in your mouth! This is my favorite of all things that Kulu Kulu makes. I actually enjoy this better than the famous Royce Chocolates from Japan. We ordered another seasonal Strawberry dessert slice cake but it was eaten before I could review (and/or taste it); I've heard it was very very delicious. This place is so good that I plan to bring my friends who will be visiting from Virginia here to try their pastries. I also plan to support this business for as long as I can and make more frequent trips to town just to get these amazing desserts.

We provided the stands and display pieces, and our coordinator set everything up after delivery. We loved that we were able to customize our cake shooters to fit exactly what we wanted. Everything was absolutely delicious--and that's coming from someone who usually doesn't even like wedding cake! Our personal favorite was the strawberry s'more tart, which was a huge hit with our guests as well. If you're looking for delicious desserts and a reliable team for your wedding, we highly recommend Cake Works!

I have traveled a great deal and have acquired a taste for specialty cakes. I was looking for a specific flavor, Dubai Chocolate, and a specific look and, for the most part, Honolulu Rose Cake Shop did not disappoint. The cake looked amazing. I'm sorry that I don't have pictures but if you look at her work on Instagram, then you'll know that she's an artist. We were a little out off by the frosting because it was a bit thick and buttery, definitely not recommended for eating leftovers on the next day. I don't think Dubai Chocolate is an easy flavor to deliver, to be honest, as a cake. Without the frosting, we loved the cake. I would have enjoyed myself just crunching away at the filling.

I don't come often, mostly for my better half's birthday and valentine's day as it is a bit of a splurge. However, it is absolutely worth the money as the quality of the baking, decorating, and ingredients can be tasted. This is not mass-produced stuff that you'd get at a certain blue and white themed bakery up the street. As for the only real nearby competitor, Beyond Pastry, they're more pastry and savory rather than cakes and confectionaries. Both are delicious but different niches. You can order online or just drop in and see what's in the display case for the day. Usually there's a good mix of whole cakes, cake slices, cookies, cheesecakes and other stuff you probably should not eat in one sitting alone. Everything I've gotten from Rose Cake Shop, from a strawberry cake to matcha cheesecake, to the cookies has been delicious. The owner is polite and easy to talk to. Parking downtown is as always, a gamble, but there is some street parking and the post office. 4.5 Stars

The young lady behind the counter was so nice, the baked goods were delicious and I can't believe it was all gluten free and dairy free! Take note that they are not open every day. Hubby and I were out and about in the Mccully area today and finally had a chance to check out the test kitchen in Mccully shopping center. Our first stop was this gem of a bakery. We got there before 12pm, which is there open time, and saw Bronson busy decorating a cake. He greeted us was a lot of Aloha. We chatted for a bit and he told me that they were out of a few things but there were still lots of yummy things to try. Since we hadn't eaten yet I didn't want to go too crazy with the treats. We got a strawberry cupcake and on original cheescake. Let me just say WOW! When I tell you that cupcake was soft that is just the beginning. It basically melted in my mouth. The cream was delicious and tasted just like fresh strawberry. Bronson did make it a point to let me know that this particular cupcake was dairy free along with several other flavored cupcakes they offered. It was topped with fresh strawberry and had a small amount of strawberry jam inside. It was amazing! The chesscake was Japanese style. It was light and fluffy an oh so good. Thank you Bronson for making such an awesome first impression. I will be back for sure!

Early bird gets the worm…read more I've been to 85°C Bakery Cafe Ala Moana (85) multiple times and just realized I haven't written a review yet. This store had its soft opening in October 2022 and has expanded to another store in Kapolei August 2023. 85 hails from Taiwan and started business in 1984. They offer quality baked goods using Asian ingredients such as taro, mochi, sesame and pork sung (floss) and boba. There's also an extensive list of hot and cold drinks you can get here. There are over 1000 locations internationally with most of them in Taiwan and China. They can also be found in Hong Kong, Australia and USA. Like most bakeries, limited quantities of baked goods are offered during the morning and highly recommended to come here earlier in the day for a better selection. Most of my visits are sadly in the afternoon after work but my last visit was memorable. My friends and I just got through celebrating a friend's birthday at a nearby restaurant where on the way back to my car I made a pitstop to here. As expected the shelves were quite bare with limited offerings but they had what I wanted: marble taro. I had just eaten dinner and was full but picked one for the road and paired it with a taro lavender latte. I literally had no room in my stomach even though over an hour had passed since I got home so I had the roll and drink for breakfast the next morning. The marble taro roll was just as good as I remembered. It was soft with a nice texture contrast with the creamy, mashed taro paste in between. It had just a good amount of sweetness where I could indulge and not feel guilty. The star had to be the taro lavender latte which I didn't have high expectations for. I like to sample drinks with lavender as I do enjoy floral essence as it's not offered at many places. I had requested my drink to be 50% sweet, which was the right decision as I need to watch my sugar intake. Service was above average. It wasn't busy when I arrived so the line moved quickly. The guy at the counter was energetic and courteous which made my experience there pleasant. It was past 7pm where there were some people utilizing the dining area but it was quiet. 85 can be very lively during peak hours with heavy foot traffic. Overall, I'm a fan of 85 where I'll be sure to stop by again. Just need to be careful as my numbers for sugar and cholesterol are being monitored and I'm currently on medication.

You see, last Christmas I gave you my heart and the very next day, you gave it away. This year, to save me from tears........no, no. This never happened to me but Wham's "Last Christmas" which was written by George Michael, is overly played during the holidays in Japan. On a serious note, last Christmas I was jonesing for a yule log. I saw posts on IG and when I attempted to order one at a bakery on S King St, I was advised it was too late. At a Japanese themed bakery I was offered the option of a Christmas cake but wasn't in a mood for strawberry shortcake. I was on a mission. I recall attending a Christmas dinner at my cousin's a few years back where someone brought Yule logs and found that they were from Elvin's Bakery (EB). I also did a search on EB's photo gallery and saw one posted so I gave them a call. Placing an order via telephone was literally a piece of cake. It was confirmed to a tee and was also advised their closing on Christmas Day so pick up would be on Christmas Eve. I made payment over the phone. All done. The Yule log was a hit at Christmas dinner where it was visually stunning and tasty. It was not overly sweet nor dry. Well executed and decorated beautifully. So why not 5-stars? Picking it up was a shocker when the Yule log was placed in a cake box that clearly was meant for a 1/2 sheet cake (?) size so you had to be extra careful when transporting and storing. There was no support nor fillers in the box for the quite empty box as the Yule log was not meant for the box provided. In closing, I'm grateful EB came through with an amazing dessert for our holiday dinner but was caught off guard with their boxing. I'll need to think twice about ordering a Yule log again from them and will definitely order earlier and seek the options on Oahu before deciding on where to go.
