From the outside, the building doesn't exactly scream "5-star seafood" -- I think it may have been an old Pizza Hut -- but don't let that fool you. Inside, it's cute, a little kitschy, and most importantly, clean!! There wasn't any type of fishy smell at all! The husband-and-wife owners are absolutely working their tails off, and it shows. The service was warm, attentive, and truly top-notch. You can feel how much pride they take in what they do. We each ordered crab boils and didn't leave a single thing in the bag -- every bite was incredible! Some of the most delicious seafood I've ever had. I almost hesitate to share this hidden gem because I selfishly want it all to myself, but they deserve every bit of recognition. We can't wait to go back and are definitely adding this spot into our regular restaurant rotation!

The old lady don't like seafood like that but this trip was more about our mothers. Her mom couldn't make it, so it was just me, my lady & my mom. I seen the fried catfish with shrimp étouffée & knew that's what I wanted. My mom had the jambalaya & kept stealing my etouffee off my fish. Lol That shit was fire!!!!!! It was so fire we ordered shrimp etouffee with rice for her to go. My lady had a pulled pork poe boy with fries. She said she enjoyed it but I couldn't read her reactions. I think she was a lil tired. We also had beans & rice to go. My service was also good. He was prompt knew the menu & brought the check fast. The restaurant is shotgun style with tables all in one side. If you have a party of 25 or under your good anything over that is pushing it. They have a bar area that's long as the fucking restaurant with what seems like a decent selection but i only drink beer with my seafood so I'll have to get buzzed up some other time. I'll be back soon tho. The cook needs a fucking raise!!!!!!!!! Damn I just thought about it. I wonder if they serve eggs? Hard boiled, poached, scrambled? I'm asking next time. The tartar sauce/remoulade hit so muthafuckas hard tho. I wish took more of it home. *They should make a spicy version IMO, I could only imagine having it with a lil more pop

I had the shrimp po boy with fries and soup, and all of the above was top notch. The people I was with ate pescatarian and gluten free and neither had an issue finding great food they could eat.

Been awhile since I've eaten at Gumbo's. Gave it another try recently. The parking still sucks. The…read moreinterior has been remodeled and looks great, love the dark layout and the huge dining room, however the food remains touch and go. Certain dishes are great, others not. Got a huge bread basket that looked empty, when peering in, two small pieces of stale french bread smothered in Saran wrap were visible. Shame all that wasted space. C'mon Gumbo. Don't skimp on the bread. Serve it fresh too! During past dining experiences, the fried shrimp and hushpuppies were much larger. During this visit they were midget sized, like they were "cooking to a price point". That said, Gumbo's always excelled at frying and they tasted great. The fried catfish was dredged in cornmeal and flour. It tasted as good as catfish can taste, considering slimy-stank taste is natural to a bottom feeder and next to impossible to cook out. If you like catfish, gather up a chair, you're in the right place. The gumbo was watery with small dices of sausage and more midget shrimp. The broth had little taste. Mediocre gumbo is a misdemeanor violation. I wrote Gumbo's a ticket on that one. The cajun pasta was very good. In the old days they used bowtie pasta in a thick creamy sauce smacked with Cajun decadence and big ole' shrimps. Today they used penne (not a big deal, but it cheapens the dish) in a disappointly watery sauce with a few midget shrimp. It still tasted good but it quite clear at this point Gumbo's was cooking to a price point. The STAR OF THE SHOW was the shrimp crawfish etouffee. Wow! Thick, creamy, rich gravy with a heavenly base of toasted roux having notes of roasted peanut. They got that one right, midget shrimps and all. I want another bowl NOW! DIATRIBE ALERT: Service wasn't terrible but far from exceptional. The new generation of wait staff expects big tips for mediocre service, like we should should be honored by their presence. I always tip large despite my general grumpiness. Problem is, tipping culture has gotten out of hand. It's become a bottomless pit of greed. Front and back staff with their hands out perpetually. Cash registers programmed to induce tip guilt. Dirty looks for not tipping a carry-out order. CARRY-OUT RULES: If I don't sit down to eat, I ain't tipping your ass. Go back to Nursing School or something like that. Why should the customer pick up the slack for an industry refusing to pay employees a decent wage? SUMMARY: Love the vibe. Like the food. Gumbo's was clearly cooking to a price point. Midget shrimp? Sacriledge. New Orleans ain't like that.

They both tasted like they were made in house and not from frozen. I would order these again any day. I also tried the shrimp po boy. The flavors were good, but the sandwich only had 6 shrimp. I purchased gift cards during Covid to help support local restaurants during shut down, and I was pleasantly surprised that we could still use them in 2026! We had tried to use them in 2022, but were told the restaurant was small and could not accommodate our party of 8, even early on a Sunday. Fast forward 4 years! We made a reservation for a party of 4. It would've been nice to know the restaurant was on the second floor with no elevator, but perhaps that is my lack of inquiry. We were warmly greeted. Our server was absolutely fantastic! She made wonderful recommendations, and our meal was delicious! We had the crab dip, cornbread muffins, fried chicken and catfish entrees with yams and collard greens. Our family is from the South (KY, NC, TN, VA, MS, & AL) and we cook southern food on a regular basis. The yams were perfectly cooked and sweetened. The collard greens had just enough density, not runny or too salty. YUM!!! The chicken was tasty and moist. Catfish was seasoned and prepared perfectly and absolutely delicious also. Served with Frank's! We finished it off with the skillet cookie dessert, shared by all. A great way to end a really wonderful meal. The restaurant wasn't busy, so food service could've been a little faster, but we enjoyed a leisurely early dinner. My only other comment is that with glass top tables, you almost have to use Windex when tables turn over. The water streaks on all the glass top just make it look more like a greasy spoon or diner and does not do justice to the great service or the quality of the food. I don't usually do catfish at home, so we will be back for more!
