I unintentionally gave myself severe cravings for Cajun food by writing a Weekly Yelp on the topic (see: www.yelp.com/weekly?editorial_id=HW89Zcz1Cj0DbtPc2qryMA). Yesterday morning it arrived in my inbox and I steadily got hungrier for sweet potatoes and shrimp and grits and spicy fried seafood as the day went on. Then, like magic, another email hit my inbox from Harriet Brewing that said that Cajun 2 Geaux was cooking tonight at the tap room. And the beers are $1 off all night. What LUCK! I rounded up some friends and we headed over to check it out, despite the rainy, chilly evening. Like most food trucks, there are about a half-dozen things on the menu at one time. It was gumbo, red beans and rice, shrimp po'boys, andouille po'boys and a shrimp basket (which comes with sweet potato fries and a tangy remoulade for dipping). I decided on the shrimp basket ($9), doused it with Louisiana hot sauce and scarfed the entire thing like an animal. I realize maybe it's hard to mess up fried sea creatures and yams, but for a dinner so simple, it was really flavorful. They are not phoning it in, that's for sure. The service was the icing on the cake, or rather the powdered sugar on the beignet (beignets weren't available yesterday, dang). The woman taking our order was exceptionally cheerful and waved us down when our orders were ready so we wouldn't have to risk running out in the cold to check. They also take credit cards, even my Discover. After stuffing myself silly, the Cajun cravings are satisfied... for now. read more

During a recent visit to Cajun 2 Geaux, I ordered their $14 Peacemaker Po' Boy with Oysters, bacon and pepper jack cheese. At first glance, $14 for a Po' Boy sandwich from a converted RV might seem like a bad investment. However, when you see the size of the sandwich you're getting from Cajun 2 Geaux, and you've brought a friend to share it with, it all makes sense. Their Po' Boy sandwiches are a meal for two. The Oysters (with a capital 'O') that were in the Po' Boy were an undisputed star of the sandwich. They were HUGE (larger than chicken strips), tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Deep-fried perfection! The other ingredients weren't anything special. The thickly-sliced bacon was cold, added little flavor and contributed an unwelcome chewiness to each bite. Eaten separately, it was tasty, but not worth the additional cost. I'd recommend a classic Oyster Po' Boy -- and investing the $$$ you save toward their jambalaya. The Jambalaya at Cajun 2 Geaux is what every Jambalaya should be -- peppery, and tomatoey, with firm rice and a meaty goodness. If you're dining alone, Cajun 2 Geaux's Jambalaya is a great meal to start with. You get a healthy portion for $5 that'll take you to a culinary Bayou. If i were just rating the bengiets....i would give them five freaking stars....absolutely delicious and a great value three for 2.00 i would have them everyday if I could. Service was friendly....good job Not a fan of the food just because I am not into cajun or shrimp so I ordered the roast beef po-boy and it was messy-hard to eat and not that great. Found Cajun 2 Geaux downtown Minneapolis. Skipped the alligator and went straight for the Oyster Po'boy. This was the closest thing to a New Orleans style po'boy i've had in Minnesota. Oysters where nicely fried, got it "dressed" with pickles, onions, tomatoes, shredded lettuce and hot sauce. The bread wasn't quite the same as down south, but did the trick. Service was friendly and quick and prices more reasonable than many other foodtrucks. Definitely an authentic po'boy, every other one I've had in the city calls itself a po'boy but the bread and toppings are so far off thats it ends up just being an expensive sandwich. Stoked to finally get some good Louisiana food in this area, definitely going back and try the jambalaya and catfish. Cool looking truck too. read more

3-stars based solely upon what I ate: the jambalaya, a beignet, and a couple of the sweet potato waffle fries (and the fact that their gumbo had NO OKRA!! PARTY. FOUL. 3-stars isn't bad! I honestly had a very limited experience, so can't really justify any more stars, or less! I was lucky enough to try Cajun 2 Geaux when I was at HammerHeart on a Saturday. I never get to eat from any of the food trucks, so this was a welcome treat. - The jambalaya was lovely - both the chicken and andouille sausage were well cooked and flavorful, and the jambalaya had a well balanced amount of heat and spice. Was it blow-my-socks-off good? No, plus it was missing shrimp, which really gives jambalaya that savory salty briny-ness...this one was lacking that key component. Again, still tasty though. - I shared an order of beignets with some friends...very fresh and hot! Again, the best ever? No, but still really really good - I also shared the sweet potato waffle fries with some others. REALLY good! I'm not a big sweet potato fan, but these were well fried and seasoned, PLUS waffle fries = automatically awesome. - OK, seriously, why no okra in the gumbo?! Gumbo is one of my all-time favorite soups, so the absence of okra in it was shocking. That's pretty darn up there as one of the quintessential ingredients in Creole/Cajun cooking - ESPECIALLY in gumbo. It's one of its key ingredients, along with file powder and a proper roux! I'm going to assume that it was "accidentally forgotten" and hope that the next time I get to try food from Cajun 2 Geaux that I'll see my beloved okra in their gumbo. Finally caught up to C2G after a long time on my want to try list. This was a trip to Indeed to grab a couple sandwiches. Shrimp po'boys to be exact. There was a bit of a wait as they were still getting the truck set up but as they ran in and out of Indeed they kept me up to date on how the startup was going. Since we had been chatting they knew what I wanted to order and I think they even had the order started before they popped open their order window. The po'boy is loaded with fried shrimp along with a spicy mayo that has a nice kick, some lettuce, tomato and red onion. The sandwich is large so either plan on sharing it or have a huge appetite. When I feel the urge for another shrimp po'boy I know which truck I will be finding. Tim, the proprietor of the truck stopped by to talk and let me know that he is looking forward to seeing the first of the crawdads in a month or so and that he is hoping to have as many as eight crawfish boils in the next couple of months spread around between different brewhouses/taprooms. My fiancé played in the 2014 Roots, Rock, & Deep Blues Festival in Longfellow and while I could have walked home to make a late lunch, I felt compelled to try something from one of the spattering of food trucks. After observing my options, Cajun 2 Geaux won me over despite a dwindling menu (lots of crossed off items, though that's probably a good sign...people were ordering their food left and right!). I went with the $10 Shrimp Po' Boy which did not take long, and I was impressed by the size of the sandwich, which they kindly chopped in half make it a lot more manageable as street food. It was also wrapped in parchment paper helping to keep things together. I split the sandwich with my fiancé who agreed that it was delicious. The shrimp was fried which is typical but it had good flavor and the bread held up nicely against the sauce, juicy tomatoes, etc. When I got hungry later, I went back to potentially order the sweet potato waffle fries - but the line had grown tremendously so I opted out. What a pleasant surprise. Sunday I took my Golden Retriever to Goldzilla. A fundraiser for a golden retriever rescue. His name happens to be CAJUN. So you can imagine how much I like Cajun food? Cajun to Geaux had their truck at the event!!! I tried the sweet potato waffle fries and their jambalaya. OMG soooooo good. This from a man who named his dog Cajun. ;-) Waffle fries were $4 and i got the small version of the jambalaya. So $8 total. Waffle fries was a large portion. Cajun my dog even approved. read more

Annie D. is spot on! This place has good food and great service! For a little over $10 bucks I got the Frenchulleta (think muffeletta but on soft bread versus the mouth-scratching hard stuff) and the beignets. This was a little pricier but in terms of quantity, this sandwich was stuffed and HUGE! Also, the three beignets we the size of regular donuts but with the hole filled in. The sandwich tasted great, strong on the olives and the meat but also very heavy on the olive oil so be warned, this is a bit of a drippy mess. The beignets are covered in powdered sugar and melt in your mouth like a fresh Krispie Kreme. I was hoping for another food truck but this was the only one in Mears and while I was at first disappointed, I could not be happier with the result. I'm not a huge olive guy so I probably wouldn't get the Frenchulleta but am very interested in trying the shrimp or the sausage po boy. In any case, I'd be crazy not to get an order of the beignets for $2. read more

This truck has been in Minneapolis some days and I've finally been able to try it. I had the shrimp po'boy and then split a side of sweet potato waffle fries with a friend. Total was about $13. The sandwich and the fries are large portions. The fries come with the same shrimp roumalade that's on the sandwich. Mmm, I really liked both items! The po'boy had good bread and also came dressed with that roumalade, pickles, onions, lettuce and tomato. I'd probably skip the onions next time. I liked having the extra sauce on the side too for dipping the sandwich in. It was a spicy sauce with a lot of good flavor. The fried shrimp in the sandwich was very good too - hot and fresh. And the sweet potato waffle fries were fried perfectly and stood up well to the 10 minute walk back to the office. Also on the menu that day were red beans and rice, beef po'boy, Jambalaya with chicken and andouille and a gumbo with shrimp and alligator. We asked for a sample of the jambalaya and it was very tasty. I really want to try the gumbo and also the beignets. They said they're going to try to be out in the truck all winter (!) so try to find them and give them a shot. I would definitely go back. read more

Cajun 2 Geaux isn't the most elaborately marketed food truck out there, but the food is up there with the best of them! I got to try this truck out at 612 and have to say I was surprised how much I liked it based on how little id heard about this truck. The jambalaya with andouille sausage was solid and had just a little kick. Enough that it builds, but that you'll never need milk or some other food to temper it. The Po Boy was really the star item that I tried though. I will order this every time I see this truck, no questions asked. The shrimp was salty, fried deliciousness with spicy mayo and crunchy fresh veggies. It just rocked, I was so impressed. read more

So so so good! I've had multiple po-boys here and they've been stellar each time. Shrimp was good, but the peacemaker made my tastebuds do a happy dance. Get the beignets! I'll say no more. I rarely hunt down food trucks, and happened to run into this gem at 612Brew just last Friday. Fantastic sweet potato waffle fries and amazing Po' boys. Better yet? AMAZING group of people. It's been awhile since I've had service like that- just genuine, down-to-earth, good people serving good food.
