There was no one else eating when I went but the fish and fries were made to order so they came out fresh and hot. I would recommend dining in so you get to experience it right out of the fryer. The best part of the meal was definitely the breading on the fish. It was crispy and airy with each bite and the coating was evenly distributed. They do give you an option for standard fries or waffle, so I thought I would try out the waffle. I would go with standard fries next time since I do not think that the waffle made that much of a difference. The side of coleslaw was good. No notes. read more

Really fantastic, well-cared-for little restaurant. Other reviews mentioned limited seating and that's true, but we didn't have any issues since we went on a Wednesday night. We had the clams, waffle fries, regular fries, cod, and halibut. I basically have no complaints about anything. We also had the tartar sauce and MN sauce. If I were to go again, I would just get the waffle fries. They are better than the regular fries. The MN sauce was a nice change in flavor, but the real star of the show is the tartar sauce, and that is what we used the most. The fish was great. The batter was amazing and it wasn't overly battered. My wife and I both agreed that the halibut is probably not worth the extra cost. When we go again, we will likely just get cod, or maybe walleye. Service was nice. It seems to be a family-owned restaurant and they seem to run it well. Overall, this is really just an amazing place. It is very expensive, but I was expecting that for fish so I was mentally prepared. I believe we spent about $50 for everything, which is definitely a pretty penny, but again we were prepared and knew the halibut was a premium. I would highly recommend checking them out. I had delicious deep fried cod and it was sweet and flaky with a very light tempura-like batter coating. Waffle fries were crispy outside and fluffy inside with a tangy coating. The coleslaw was classic. My wife had a deep fried cod sandwich which was equally tasty. Everything came fresh and hot from the kitchen in about 10 minutes, hand delivered by the order-counter staff. The menu offers a range of fish prepared in a variety of ways - looking forward to trying other items. Was looking for fish and came across MN Fish & Chips. When I have gone past this place before it looked pretty small so I decided to order take out. The restaurant has a dozen or so tables but every table was full when I went to pick up my order. They had a quick wait despite making each order fresh. Another customer waiting on their order mentioned the fish was really good so I was excited to try it for myself. They weren't kidding! It was a very good fish fry. I had the perch dinner which had a delicate yet crunchy batter. The waffle fries were crispy and had a flavorful seasoning. I ordered the MN sauce on the side that is unique and hard to tell what's in it. It's citrusy with a hint of spice. I would skip this sauce and stick to tartar sauce but worth a try if you are looking for something different. read more

So it had been a while since we had ordered from Minnesota Fish & Chips, I frankly don't know why, but we had an appetite for fish this evening and this was our choice. We had two walleye dinners which of course included waffle fries, and either coleslaw or a roll. All I can say is when I was done eating, I was so glad we chose them again. The portion size was fantastic, the walleye was flaky and perfectly cooked. The waffle fries are great, and I really liked the coleslaw. It was good to see Coco the owner again and with the traffic and the Garrett detour, I'm guessing his business has suffered a bit. I would encourage everybody to order from here if you haven't and support local business. They are much deserving of our business in Apple Valley. Great little fish and chip shop. Very clean and the staff was friendly. I got the halibut sandwich and hush puppies and both were delicious.

We stopped in as we wanted to try the newer restaurant. We tried fish sandwiches but were disappointed in the size of the fish and bland taste. It was expensive for two people and we split an order of chips. The 4 pieces of mini cheesecake were pretty good. It was the cleanest restaurant I have been in. Very good quality fish and batter, but be ready to spend a little more for it. The owner is very nice, there are 9 tables, it's located in a strip mall off Gleason in Apple valley, the music is smooth jazz elevator music? I am posting a pic of clam strips and cod. The owner is very proud of his halibut so I will probably swing by to check that out. Worlds better than say, a Red Lobster or several local bars and grills. read more

Wanted tacos and saw this relatively new place! This is in a small strip mall so there is a small amount of free parking. The vibe: gray.... Very gray. Gray walls, chairs, tables. There are a couple sayings on the wall. This would not be a spot I would stay and eat. The service was very good and pretty quick. I was told it would take about 15 minutes for the chicken wings but it didn't take that long. The food: The tacos were tasty! I liked the catfish the most but the walleye and shrimp were also very good! This is not an authentic taco joint tho. Flour tortillas and nothing overly spicy. However, still very good! The chicken wings on the other hand... I hate to use this word but they were gross... No seasoning, not crispy. Very greasy and tough.... I'm glad I got those tacos or I wouldn't be back. Overall, this place is just ok. I would go back to try just the fish and chips aspect. I would also get the tacos again but would take them to go. read more

Fantastic fish, shrimp, and fries. The shrimp was huge, and the best selection on my plate. Owner was super friendly. Price is a little steep (I got the walleye dinner with drink and three shrimp), but everything is expensive these days -- few of those other options are actually good food like MN FISH & CHIPS! My only recommendation is that they offer a bit more sauce. I only received one small container of tartar sauce for two large pieces of fish. I would have wanted four! All in all, excellent food! Had lunch there today, unbelievably good. Place is spotless. Excellent friendly service. I had the combo, one piece of cod, 3 shrimp, waffle fries and coleslaw. Everything cooked to perfection, the batter on the fish and shrimp could not be better. Fast casual so you're eating in disposable plate with disposable silverware but who cares. No "fishy" taste at all and no grease/fish stink in the air. Served with a lemon and portion cups of homemade tartar and cocktail, both were good. If I lived closer would probably eat 3 days a week. First time here and not that impressed. Ordered a Halibut taco, and the Pico de Gallo was loaded with red onions. I scraped a lot off, and then my son just took and ate it, and I had some of his halibut. This Halibut was obviously frozen. I've had much better Halibut in Alaska. The coleslaw was basic. The fries were handcut and good. There are only 8 tables and 2 were high tops. Some tables needed to be wiped. Everything here is battered and fried. Spouse now has gas. read more

Finally tried this place put. Kind of hidden - over by Crumbl Cookie in back of the Red Savoy center. Super clean and very fast, friendly and efficient service. Counter service only. Tried the walleye, cod, and shrimp. The breading on everything was so light and crisp - just perfect! Shrimp was my favorite - almost tempura like. Teen loved their waffle fries and rated them as one of the best in the area. (He also gave a thumbs up on the cod.) Love that they had so many sauces and were generous with them. They come in small cups which means it is way more sanitary than the person who game a bad review because they want full-size sauces of everything on the tables. COVID kind of killed that so I am fine with sauces in cups. Less spoilage too. Prices are what you'd expect for fresh seafood. And it is fresh! They have some great mix and match options so if you like shrimp, ADD THE SHRIMP. You will thank me. Looking forward to trying more! Ate dinner there tonight. We both got the cod meals and shared a side of cheese curds. The fish was perfectly battered and fried, crispy and moist. The fries were good, but the fish was the star! Yes it is pricey. But this place is always clean and delicious. The fish is very fresh and light for being fried. I love that they have fried clams, and I get those every time with a different fish selection as a combo meal. I spent 13 years working in restaurants and this owner knows customer service. This has been a fantastic addition to Apple Valley As a fish and chips restaurant in the middle of the Midwest where people aren't used to eating a lot of fish (meat and potatoes, dontcha know)! I do recommend asking for regular fries (aka the chips in "fish and chips") because they recently switched to waffle fries (not "chips" in my opinion). I also recommend the MN sauce. The service is fast (I usually do takeout) and have done a great job of designing a clean and comfortable environment. I would have given 5 stars but they changed to the waffle fries (remember to ASK for regular fries/chips). read more

The fresh prepared fish was fantastic However, they give you small sizes of hot sauce and vinegar and tartar sauce in small cups. I feel like I'm being micromanaged on the stuff that really makes the fish taste good. my suggestion is put the hot sauce, vinegar, salt and pepper on the tables and let people know that they can ask for more tartar sauce, But for $19 for lunch for two walleye fillets , I don't think that's going to work for me.
