Pizza Fries
Laura S.

We went on a Sunday at 430 and had a reservation. It looked like you could have walked in without a reservation, but this place gets really busy. I love the overall vibe of an older school/dress up type of environment, but most of the hosts/weight staff were wearing jeans so not a fully formal dress code. Food 4/5: some just ok and some really good. We got the pizza fries and they were just ok. The sauce is really what made that dish and overall the fries could use more flavorful seasoning. For entree we got the chicken Parmesan and pesto pasta with shrimp. The chicken parm was overall a solid choice, but the pesto pasta was so savory and well balanced from a flavor perspective that I will absolutely come back for it and is a must try. We wished the bread would have come before the entree, but the butter was very flavorful and worth the stomach space. Service and ambiance 5/5: our waitress was very kind and attentive. We loved the overall cozy ambiance of this place. Overall a solid place for Italian food if you are in the neighborhood. Keep in mind a reservation and extra time to park are absolutely recommended.

Arugula Salad......don't forget the meatballs on the side. Do it!

My Manhattan was great but the Muffuletta was just fair. First off, the menu says grilled focaccia. Mine was not grilled. Secondly, the menu says olive tapenade. If tapenade was on my muffaletta, then it was sparse. I usually love the food here. My choice this time was meh.

DeGidio's is one of those "hidden treasures" on West 7th in St. Paul. The parking situation in St. Paul is always interesting but DeGidio's has ample off street parking and a significant amount of street parking too. They do take reservations, and they fill up. However, they reserve most of the tables and booths in their bar area for "walk-in". Today was our third time being here and we have never had to wait to sit. So the Bar...you would think that bar seating would be loud, crowded and uncomfortable with poor service. Nothing could be further from the truth. My wife and I were able to enjoy our meal and comfortable conversation. Now, for the food. They have an appetizer called "Pizza Fries". Having been frequent diners at Mama's, and having pizza fries there, that was what I was expecting, a garlic and butter pizza crust with cheese on it. This is not that. The pizza fries are pizza dough deep fried. Sounds simple, and it is...but they are so addicting. You will not be disappointed. Tonight my wife and I both ordered the special which was Chicken Parmesan in vodka sauce. The sauce was tangy and delicious. The Chicken Parm was done to perfection, the chicken was moist and the breading was well done. Over all, if you want Italian comfort food, this is the place to go.

One of my all-time favorite Italian restaurants! I tried the penne alla vodka for the first time this time and I'm obsessed. It was SO good and I'm already thinking about wanting it again. Their bread and butter is also a favorite of mine. The bread is super soft and really enjoy it with my meal. Everything I've tried here has been delicious, and it's definitely one of those places I'm always excited to come back to!

We started in the bar to converse and have drinks. The bartender was good at his job. Perfect pours every time. It was a busy Friday night. I'm not sure if this is normal but I had to park on the street. We did have a reservation for 7pm and we're seated right away. Started off with apps of the bruschetta and calamari. Both were good. For entrees I ordered the pesto pasta with blackened chicken. Definitely would order again. It was tasty, creamy and a good portion size. One friend ordered the Vodka something pasta which she really liked but the other ordered the blackened shrimp pasta. On her first bite it was way over salty. She couldn't even eat it. We informed the waiter who was so nice and offered her something else instead. She declined. Since we were celebrating my birthday, I got a free dessert so I ordered the tiramisu. Now that was a good ass dessert. We also got the bread pudding. I'm not usually a bread pudding fan but this one I would order again. The waiter ended up comping my friend's salty pasta as well as BOTH desserts. One thing is that I wish they were open later than 9pm. We had to leave and take our shenanigans to a different location

The food as always was great! The blackened chicken was only a $2 upcharge from the pesto pasta. A huge bargain! Also the Milano Mule was only $11, a great price for a cocktail anywhere these days! It was really busy, even without an event downtown. Our server was attentive and friendly. And service was quick. The bar is open seating in the booths.

Hands down best pasta in the twin cities. Blackened shrimp pasta is a must. I took so many of friends there agan and again and they were all impressed too. There is a little bar attached too. Service was fast!

My son took us here on the recommendation of others. The place is very established with many customers on a Thursday night. After a few minutes wait we were seated in a booth in the bar area which reminded me of the bar from Cheers. The waitress was very attentive. For appetizers we got the pizza fries and bruschetta. We sampled various entrees and were very satisfied.

We ate at the restaurant and loved the food the ambiance the service, etc. Because of that we decided to use them for catering for our wedding! We went on the catering website where it gave servings per dish. Based on our guest count and how many servings their website listed we placed an order. Their catering coordinator then reached out to us saying we would need double the amount we had ordered for our guest count. We then replied that we were going off the numbers their website listed for servings for each dish, and that 30 of our 80 guests were children. The catering manager insisted that we needed double the amount, so we agreed. Fast forward to our wedding, we did not even open the second servings of any of the pasta dishes. We are super disappointed since that was over $700 of food we didn't need but were pressured to get be their own catering manager. When we reached out after the wedding about how we were told we definitely needed to order more food and then didn't touch any of the extra they pressured us into ordering their only reply was, thanks for letting us know, we will use this information moving forward. All in all we would not recommend for wedding catering, or at least don't listen when they pressure you to order more, the serving sizes on their website are accurate despite what their catering manager will try to tell you.

We wanted Italian food and a comfortable atmosphere. We decided to try somewhere we hadn't been and called ahead to see if we needed reservations. They had an automated attendant that was a little frustrating to work around as we wanted to ask questions. Getting to a real person took awhile and we were pretty frustrated by the time we got through. We decided to just show up and take our chances and we are so glad we did. The dining room had an hour wait but we were able to sit in the bar area immediately. The bar area consisted of numerous booths and feels less like a bar and more like a distinguished upgrade of an Applebees. The staff was so attentive and everything came out so quickly. We tried the pizza fries - expecting a version of cheese pizza cut in strips. Imagine our surprise and delight when what was delivered was soft, squishy dough with sweet tomatoey pizza sauce arrived. It was amazing! The last bite was barely made when our entrees arrived, piping hot. We tried the pasta pesto with chicken and the chicken parm. Both were perfectly cooked and had such fresh, homemade flavors! Accompanied by the world's softest bread and flavored butter. The portions were huge and we brought more home than what we ate. The server was a highlight. So amazing and attentive. The staff worked together to provide an excellent experience - keeping drinks filled, clearing plates as they emptied, making sure we felt seen. All in all, we will be back. The only negative was that irritating phone attendant. It doesn't represent the kind of service you will receive once you arrive. Don't let it scare you off!

We visited DeGidio's this last week for the first time in a long time and what a fun night. We sat in the bar to catch up on MN sports as the Wild, Vikings and TWolves were all playing!! The bartender was fantastic and it was as fun to learn some of the history as this place has been a St Paul staple since 1933. Both the bar and dining room are cozy and the entire restaurant is full of regulars. Our dinners were yummy. Nothing over the top unique but solid pasta dishes and the tiramisu was delish. Great parking lot too. We'll be back.

Went to DeGidios for my birthday and had a nice time. The restaurant has been around for close to 100 years so I was excited to go back as I've been here before and had enjoyable experiences. They have a cozy lounge dining room that provides an intimate setting for dinner. The food we tried was very good. Their basic marinara sauce is very robust and is a great compliment to their meatballs. The bolognese sauce is fairly acidic and has a slight spice to it. We also liked the heirloom tomato bruschetta as a starter. There were some hiccups with the service tonight. It was slow to place an order, some of our food was forgotten and took a long time to pay for our meal. During the dinner we had to find someone to track down our server who was absent. Later in the dinner they were hanging out with a co worker in another booth and took their time to come back to collect our tab. Maybe if I wasn't visiting for a special occasion I wouldn't be so sensitive to this but it was a letdown. Luckily the food is good so I'll go again!

Chopped Salad

The wood tones and lighting here make for a beautiful backdrop to an old school Italian meal. Our waiter was pleasant and did a good job of highlighting the menu when I asked what was popular. Cocktails: prosecco and a beer (3/5) Appetizer: Italian Chopped Salad (4/5) Entrees: Pesto with Chicken (4/5) / Spaghetti and meatballs (5/5)

Food came out fast makes me doubt about cooked to order vs reheated premade food. Therefore I opted for salad and cheese bread.

Is manicotti ever an option on the menu? We've been on the hunt for some great manicotti in St. Paul. LOTS of us are craving it!

I don't believe DeGideo's serves manicotti but you will find it on the menu at Yarusso Brother's on Payne Ave.

Do you have off street parking?

Yes and a small lot.

Waitstaff circulated with hors d'oeuvres as we waited in the receiving line, keeping everyone engaged. I loved the library theme, from the Save The Date library book cards to the tables identified by famous authors. We were seated at Dickens, our dinner preferences printed out on beautiful bookmarks. The three-story ceilings are reached by massive bookshelves with upstairs hallways for reaching those high books. The flowers were gorgeous and organic and the catered food was delicious from salad to dessert. It's not an inexpensive venue, but it is warm and intimate once you get here. We ran into detours, slow trains, and closed roads so we had our Uber let us out about a 1/4 mile away because we were about to be late. We literally made it in as the ceremony started. Using it as a meeting space wasn't the greatest, since the speakers had power point presentations with lots of writing, and because the seating had to be deep and narrow, it was hard for those in the back. We hosted our cocktail style Wedding Reception here in June and felt it was woefully mismanaged…read morefrom start to finish. We booked all three rooms back in Fall of '23 and paid our deposit and were excited to get planning come May this year. We got to a month before the event and hadn't heard anything from the Event Coordinator regarding current menu, bar, timing, anything. Three weeks prior to the event we reached out and heard nothing for a week. Two weeks out we followed up and found out the Event Coordinator had changed from the one we booked with and the new one was out for an indeterminate period of time with a family emergency. We worked as best we could with the Event Captain but ended up with incorrect menus and pricing and were finally told the Event Coordinator would be back the Monday of our event week and it would be handled then. We got finalized menus and pricing 36 hours before our event. This was extremely stressful, however, we empathized with the Event Coordinator and were assured the event itself would be great. On the day, we arrived and the staff setting up was unsure how many chairs we wanted. They didn't know which equipment we had paid for to use that needed to be set up. They didn't know what the event was for. They were all very nice and let us know they had extremely limited information about our event which was very concerning for us. The Event Coordinator was present for about 5 mins to ask us about a backup wine if ours ran out and that was it (it did run out because there was only one bottle). There was no Event Captain, and the Coordinator was not on hand and (according to staff) unreachable during the event. We had agreed upon several things including a finite amount to pay for "open bar" and then switching to card after that point and we found out only AFTER we met our minimum that they were never told/weren't prepared to take cards. At that point, our options were no drinks (N/A or otherwise) for the last 3 hours or so of our event or we could just keep paying. So we ended up paying much more than was quoted/agreed upon due to lack of communication/oversight. We were told that guests could visit the attached Blue Stem bar, but it closed two hours before our event ended. We also had guests with dietary preferences/restrictions and had ordered vegan options and gluten free cake. We had asked if these could be explicitly labeled to avoid confusion and were told "yes" and on the day it did not happen so many of our guests were unaware there was anything they could eat at our reception. We were also told we could take our leftovers home and we only got cake when there was a lot of food left when they took it away. The sternos were out for some period of time and we couldn't find someone to help with that. The bar was left unattended. The bartenders were serving and refilling alcohol table to table (which we did not want or ask for), and did not pass appetizers as agreed upon. We reached out to the owner, twice, following our event to discuss our concerns to no avail. We LOVE French Meadow and are just heartbroken to have had this experience with them. Posting this (very lengthy) review in hopes no one else goes through this expensive disappointment.

All of French Meadow's staff were so lovely to work with. Briana and the entire catering group were so helpful from Day 1. As most wedding couples do, we had a lot of questions about logistics and planning. They answered every one of our questions in a timely manner and were thorough in coordinating all of the details of our special day. The day of our wedding, everyone there was immensely helpful and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. We truly owe them the world for making our wedding day so special! The room is perfect. We added floral centerpieces, but the room itself was setup exactly how we wanted, the chairs outside were moved once for our ceremony and then again for our first dance. The lighting both inside and out was more than we could have imagined. We were able to play our own music (a friend just had to manage the playlist), which was super easy! The FOOD, OH MY GOSH THE FOOD! So superb, we got so many compliments from our friends and family about how wonderful the food was. We got to choose 4 food options for our guests and only heard wonderful things about each entree. The cake was also super wonderful and delicious. We would recommend the Nord Room to anyone looking for an intimate wedding location. It was such an easy day (seriously, nothing went wrong!) and we couldn't have asked for a better staff or location. We had a beautiful day and we owe much of that to the wonderful folks at French Meadow!
