My wife and I stayed in White Bear Lake over new years. This was the only place we found that was opened within walking distance from our Airbnb on new years. I had a burger and my wife had a BLT with the cheese curds as an appetizer. The cheese curds were a lot of empty fried balls and little cheese. The sandwiches were both ok at best. I was greeted by a super friendly hostess who walked me to a lovely table on the patio under some shade...the perfect spot! I saw so many exciting items on the menu that I will definitely be back! Great eclectic sandwich options. I chose the New Yorker which is similar to a Reuben but I loved that it's named the NY'er since I am a native NY'er (just don't tell the MN natives...I try to blend in). I got it on a gfree bun...oh yay..love that a gfree bun is an option. I also ordered a side Caesar salad (no croutons). It's a buy up option instead of fries or coleslaw. Everything was delish! My waitress Veronica was awesome and was friendly and helpful. We haven't been here since the name change. Long time. Here for lunch. We started out with a good size cup of clam chowder. A little different but perfect. It had a lot of soft pieces of celery and onion and plenty of clams. A between thick and thin consistency. So good. I wanted a burger, but I also love jalapeno poppers so I got this smothered on a burger. Good but I'm so conventional, gotta branch out sometime. I ordered mine medium, nice to have a choice. Basil loved the shrimp po boy. We both loved the fries. Someone had some kind of bull bites which looked really good as I passed by. A satisfying iced tea. Nick was our awesome waiter. Really disappointing experience, especially on Mother's Day. From the moment we walked in, the staff acted annoyed that we were even there. We were met with rude attitudes, short responses, and overall terrible customer service. It honestly felt like they couldn't care less about having our business. We understand holidays are busy, but that's not an excuse to treat customers poorly. There are plenty of restaurants that can handle a crowd while still being respectful and welcoming. We have eaten here several times in the past year and our experiences have been all great! Now that they have new management, the service and food is amazing! This might be one of our new favorite brunch spots. We got the breakfast burrito and biscuits and gravy. Both were very good. Went here for the first time after a fall trip to a nearby apple orchard and it was a pretty solid experience. We had a late lunch at 2 so it was fairly empty and staff were friendly. They ran out of the french dip so we all got burgers. Everyone enjoyed their burgers, especially the smash burgers, and the fries were nice and crispy. My swiss mushroom got a little soggy by the end but still tasted great. I also got french onion soup as my side and that was great- good cheese ratio. We also ordered some cherry cokes, and I don't know what they add to it (maybe maraschino cherries juice?) but I really enjoyed it and would order it again, even if it's not like the trademarked cherry coca cola. Overall, it was a cute spot with a nice patio, lots of windows, a bar, and tvs with NFL network playing (makes sense since it was a Sunday). It's not good enough for me to go out of my way to come here since I don't live nearby, but if I happen to be in the area, I would definitely stop in. read more

We came to Manitou on a random Tuesday night around 8 pm and it was very empty and quiet. Getting seated took a second because they were starting to close down and didn't notice us at the host stand for a while. But eventually we got seated and the server was very attentive after that! I ordered the Tavern Burger and it was absolutely delicious! One of the best burgers I've had in awhile. The bread was unique and the toppings were so tasty! They have a great menu - something for everyone, the staff goes above and beyond when waiting on you. I absolutely love the inside of the restaurant, very stylish and QUIET. They have background music but it is not blaring and they will turn it down if you ask. They can accommodate larger groups and will let each pay individually. There is free parking on the street along with several lots that are free too. If you park in the back of the restaurant, in the lot (free), they have an entrance between the buildings so you do not need to walk all the way around to get in the door. I had their Parmesam BLT with bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo on parmesan crusted sourdough. It was very good and what I expected. We will return for sure. read more

Located right off of Highway 61 and 4th Street in a very visible blue building. The location has ample parking right out front, or on the street. The ambiance is nice and features a beautiful bar. If it were a little cleaner I'd give it a bit of a higher star rating. Per our server Chloe's recommendation, we ordered the walleye fingers. We added the steak bites. The walleye fingers are unbelievably good! Lightly battered and seasoned perfectly. They didn't skimp on the size. We also ordered the steak bites. Meh. Lacking flavor and the plate was crowded with things like arugula, roasted tomatoes, and crispy onions, and a sauce that distracted from the steak bites in my opinion. I would rather have a flavorful steak and less unneeded accessories. Courtney was so helpful when we needed plates after our apps arrived. We didn't get plates originally but Courtney who was not out server came from another table to ask what we needed. Happy hour is fabulous! $3 rail, wine, beer, and $3.00 off apps. Person cleaning tables didn't clear off table top. Short staffed we found out so maybe that's why the service was just ok. My friend and I wanted to try some new restaurants in the White Bear Lake area and thought this would be a great option! Overall, 3 stars perfectly describes our experience - it was okay. I would go back, but would not order what we did. We went during happy hour so each got a glass of wine & an appetizer. The Caesar salad that I got was really good! The croutons were perfectly crunchy! My friend got the rib appetizer and said the rib meat was really good! We also enjoyed the crinkle cut fries :) Unfortunately, I ordered the bacon blue cheese burger & it left everything to be desired. I ordered it medium and it came out crisp on the outside & no pink in the middle at all. I probably should have sent it back, but they were busy and I felt bad, so I ate a 1/4 of it and called it done. It could have been a good burger if it was not charred. I would give it a try again, with remembering that it is a bar first - so choosing more bar-type foods would be good. read more

Who expects their bartenders to have to manually stuff the bleu cheese into green olives instead of providing olives that are already bleu cheese stuffed. They use to have terrific dirty bleu martinis. Gone. The bartender had to stuff two, not large green olives with bleu cheese, smashing the olives. They also had a terrific Shepherds pie and Scotch eggs. Also gone. The wedge salad was delicious and came with a fan of thinly sliced steak. Now, for additional $$, you can get dry chicken, or grilled shrimp or andouille sausage. The appetizer of Brussels sprouts almost had more grossly fatty lardons than it did Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were large, cut in half, but should have been cut into quarters due to the size. The butter knife was so dull, I could barely cut the sprouts. This was a huge disappointmen and I've been going to this restaurant several times a year for at least 15 years. read more

We wanted to keep tabs on the bowl games and to our surprise, there was a happy hour during the weekend. Another draw is that you can grab a seat at the bar with easy viewing of two flat screens with sports/games on! When my friend arrived, a few stools had filled in and the bartenders walked by us several times. I had to raise my hand and hold it up as if I were hailing a cab to garner attention. Additional rounds were progressively longer waits. We ordered the Mediterranean platter, which we had ordered on the past. The presentation was previously artfully arranged on a platter with generous portions. Upon arrival, we both looked at one another. It arrived on a white dinner plate. Half the size of what it once was and none of the artistic presentation. When my girlfriends husband arrived we asked for more bread. (Additional charge.) it appeared as if a child placed 6 cold small slices of a dinner roll in two rows, sliding on a dinner plate. We put more effort into presentation and utilizing serving boards, trays etc at home. The immediate slack in service when a few more people arrived in addition to not putting any effort into their food' presentation was disappointing. Total disappointment! We went on Valentine's Day with another couple and left thinking "no need to come back!" Let's start: Waitress walked us to our table and the table cloth was dirty. She insisted on removing it (duh, thank you!) but never even tried to replace it. In a restaurant filled with white tables-clothed tables, we felt silly being the only ones without. Pre-dinner drinks: took forever for the waitress to take our order. Really? On a holiday night? There should have been plenty of servers on, so "i was swamped" doesn't fly. Bread basket: cake out "fresh from the oven"..... stale, less than hot, Reinhardt-style rolls. Variety is appreciated but store-bought was plain as day. Orders: two jambalaya, one beef filet (med rare) and one walleye. Jambalaya was good, but no rice, came with fettuccine. Weird but acceptable. Heat was nice. HEAVY garlic. More italian than New Orleans. Med rare filet was med well. Not even close. A tip: if you can't cook filet, don't sell it. Walleye was fine but had this bizarre skinned tomato on the plate. What? Cocktails: wayyyy overpriced. Mediocre spirits (finlandia? Seriously?). Went with a gin and soda to be safe. $80 later, we left with no need to come back. This restaurant is more appropriate in 2004 than 2019. A total shame given the location. Prime real estate in a thriving town. Maybe it's time for the owners to retire and let someone else take a shot. read more

I had to come here for a dinner meeting so I scoped out the reviews. They haven't been great lately, so I was a little worried but the group seemed keen on meeting here and I thought if the service was slow, maybe the meeting could move faster. :) I was the first one there and the hostess put a couple of tables together for me and got us all situated with waters and sodas. She was actually fantastic. She checked back with us frequently and made sure everyone was taken care of and kept glasses full and plates cleared. I thought we had great, attentive service. I ordered a BBQ burger which I just realized now came without any BBQ sauce. Ah, well. It was great. I order burgers medium-well and often get either burnt hockey pucks or patties that are way under-cooked, but this was very tasty. The fries have a coating on them and those, too, were great. My son ordered the chicken strips and fruit from the kid's menu and he was very happy. I've already told my husband that I'd love to come back. They have some really appetizing dinners that I'd like to try. I was concerned about parking, but I found a spot right on the street in a two-hour zone right by the front door. We'll be back for sure! **8/14 I brought my mom here for dinner and we both had the fish and chips. The portions are pretty big. Went in on a slow weekday at 7:15 PM to try this place out. We just moved into the city and wanted to find out what restaurants were available. It seemed to be one of only two spots that were open for dinner on the block. The other place was very packed so we decided to stop here to get faster service. Exactly four indoor tables were occupied when we arrived and no one was at the bar. Two were already finishing, a table of 7 was still waiting for another person to arrive and the fourth had their drinks. We were seated quickly by the hostess who gave us menus and silverware. Waitresses walked passed us. Nothing. Bills were brought to the two tables us. Us? Nothing. The person that arrived at the table of 7 arrived. He was given a beer. Us? No water, no hello, no "I'll be right with you." We proceeded to wait patiently for 20 minutes. Finally, we got up to walk out. Frustrated, I stopped to ask the host to get me the manager. Another 5 minutes goes by and she finally comes out of the kitchen to apologize and offer free drinks. We declined. This seems to be a pattern for customers. read more

However - the removal of the Buffalo Shrimp Slider from the menu was one of the worst decisions Manitou made. In the name of all that is good and holy, please let 2021 start with the return of that culinary masterpiece. A World without the Buffalo Shrimp Slider is akin to a World without music. We decided to share Chicken Nachos, a Lobster Roll & Chicken Sliders. The Chicken Nachos were decent, except they were cold quickly. The Lobster Roll was supersaturated in Butter and unseasoned mayonnaise. The Chicken Sliders were fair, but lacked seasoning as well. Service was good, and the tap beer was cold.
