We recently hired Caja Madera on a Friday night for my son's wedding rehearsal party. I like tacos just ok, but hired them because It sounded fun and my new daughter in law happens to love Mexican food. I chose 4 different kinds trying to suit a variety of people. We had quesadillas and veggies and hummus for appetizers. Not only was the food a huge hit, but it was fabulous! I tried all 4 myself and loved every one. The flavors were not just typical boring tacos. To top that all off, we got brownie sundaes for dessert. They were heated, a little crispy on the outside, fudgey on the inside with ice cream and chocolate sauce. The owners were both there cooking and serving us. The food came out in a timely manner and they were very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this Taco food truck. I was very pleased as was everyone else who was stuffing their faces. Everything I've tried has been fantastic! Really fresh and authentic. The Pork Tacos were my favorite. That and whatever my friend had- it was like a quesadilla but thicker and better... I'm glad they found a winter space. Service was fast even though they had a good line going at lunch time. Being busy did not effect the quality and care that went into our meals like you sometimes see. My only regrets are: not getting some to go for later, & not buying a bottle of the green sauce for home. So good we talked about it for two days! read more

Though the pork belly taco was quite good, overall I was disappointed by Caja Madera as a taqueria. Typically a sidebar of crunchy vegetables is offered (carrot, jalapeño, onion, etc.) as well as a variety of hot sauces. Caja Madera offered no spicy side veggies, and there were only two house made hot sauces available. Though a variety of boutique sodas were available, I prefer a nice cold Mexican beer to complement my tacos, but Caja Madera doesn't sell beer, so that was kind of a bummer. Indeed the tacos were solid, but I think the restaurant should level up a bit if they want to command the prices they do. read more

Caja Madera is a great little taco place that also has a changing menu with other choices. Today, for instance, they had gyros as an option. Their food is tasty and the people there are super friendly. They only take cash, and when we went there the first time and didn't have any, they gave us some tacos for free. How nice is that? Here's a big update. They've just moved indoors into a building where you are sheltered from the rain, but the entrance is open so there is air circulation to keep you covid-safe. They have several picnic tables. This is such a great addition to Hardwick. Stop by and get some! read more

My husband and I hired Caja Madera to cater our Friday night wedding welcome party this past June. He and I both love tacos, and had fairly high expectations since all the reviews we read raved about the food. That being said, Caja Madera completely exceeded our expectations - and our guests'! It is safe to say they were some of the best - if not the best - tacos I've ever had, and many of our guests echoed that sentiment. It's been over a month since the wedding, and people are still reaching out to say how much they enjoyed the food (especially the street corn). My husband's family in particular can be picky when it comes to food (several of them own restaurants, are chefs, etc.), but they are still raving about it. They had multiple people cooking and serving the food. Everyone was very friendly, and even with close to 100 guests, the food came out quickly. We are already looking for an excuse to hire them again! We hired Bryan to bring a taco truck to the rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding in Barnet, VT. He was able to serve a great variety of fabulous tacos that happily and efficiently fed vegans, vegetarians, gluten free and meat eating diners. Finding a quality and freshly prepared taco food truck here in Hardwick was a bit of a surprise. Our group ran through most of the menu, enjoying pulled pork and chorizo from regular menu and some specials (shrimp and fried chicken). Amongst the group the consensus was that the pulled pork and the shrimp were the standouts. The chorizo was a bit bland and reminded me more of a pork belly than sausage. I'd probably ask that it be hot sauced up a bit if I was going after that one again (it was cooked beautifully). A little seasoning here would have boosted it a lot I think. Tacos came with a side of salsa (which was very mild but delicious - would have loved to have some tortillas with it) and a lime to add a sour twist if you so desire. Owner was super nice. Chatted about his history and business when we engaged him in conversation. Nice tables to sit at and enjoy your food on a nice day. He even came and collected our plates/bottles. My friends and I have dietary restrictions. After changing things about our orders the girl taking it was very rude and said "you should" order it like "this" in a rude tone, and she acted frustrated when we kept adding things to the bill? She also made my friend of color feel judged outside of that comment and very uncomfortable, and unwelcome. as we sat at the tables outside she would not stop looking over at my friend with the face of a scowl so it seemed. I stared back at her for awhile because I couldn't help but feel the negative energy in her stare and I wondered if there was racism involved. she challenged my stare with hers but I stayed strong and she cracked multiple seemingly petty/ fake smirks. Not to mention she got my order wrong after I told her what it was twice, but I ate it anyways. The wind was blowing really hard when we were at the table and the umbrella attached to it was opened up and it caught on the wind. We were working really hard to wind the umbrella down and one of the guys screams (as we are doing it) from the food truck: "You guys should get that winded down" as if we weren't struggling to in the first place. read more

Best tacos! We ordered one of each. The beef taco and the pulled pork we're definitely my favorite. The pulled pork has like a sweet chili sauce on it - so good. The owner is super friendly and you can tell he really cares about what he does and what he's doing. Highly recommended. It's right next to the Jay Country Store with a little room off the back with foosball and tables. Also- the guy made his own truck out of an old Winnebago - that alone is pretty awesome. Caja Madera has moved its winter operations to the town of Jay. And by moved I mean they drove here. I buy three every Sunday. The chorizo, the pulled pork with candied ginger and, this week, ground beef with fried onions. It's a great addition to the food lineup in the area. Fresh ingredients and obvious care go into these things. I can't imagine it'll be here forever so I'm just going to eat as many as I can. Food is always excellent, prices very reasonable. The tacos are soft tacos, just so everyone knows. I usually try and get one of the specials, but I've not had anything that wasn't great there. They can get very slammed at times so don't put off going there for lunch too late. But, even if you do end up waiting a bit, it's worth it. It is the only place local that is serving up authentic Mexican food. You can tell some serious prep and thought go into the recipes. Their speed, and attention to detail pays off because they serve up quick, hot, and with a smile on their face. The way anyone should. As a trained chef myself I would offer these words.
