Tony has good food, reasonable prices, good-sized portions, friendly people, and a central location just off 93 in Saint Johnsbury.

I go in for lunch and order plain boneless wings just so I can dip them in Tony's red sauce instead of the usual dressings.

I should have known better, though. What we got: - Lobster roll flight - Fried clams dinner The lobster roll flight is served as an appetizer and doesn't come with any sides. It was lobster prepared 3 ways. Classic butter, wine sauce, and a jalapeño mayo. The classic was good, the wine sauce was bad, and the jalapeño mayo overwhelmed the lobster flavor. It would be better as a classic mayo with a drizzle of the jalapeño sauce. In all 3, the lobster was overcooked and the portion was small. The fried clams were delicious. About 9 or 10 in total. A big portion of fries and two small hush puppies. The hush puppies were delicious. But for $30, the price is too high for what you get. The server was friendly, but her energy was off-putting. She was very erratic, made sure to mention that they had drinks on the menu, and then proceeded to give a detailed list of every alcoholic beverage they had. We came in for lunch, on a Wednesday, and weren't looking to drink; her energy just didn't match the energy of the room. When we said we were just going to have water. She exclaimed "FANTASTIC, LOVE THAT!" and then rushed off. Surf Shack was a hit and a miss. But more of a miss. For $75, 1 app, 1 entree, and water. The price is outrageous for what you get.

Most of my problems had to do with the kitchen. Me and two others in my party ordered the Buffalo Mac and cheese. Another ordered the beef tacos. Basically nothing came out super hot. My Mac and cheese had several bites that were straight up cold. The food came out fast, so i don't think our waitress left it sitting out. But because some bites were cold, I do wonder if the noodles came out of a frozen bag. The beef tacos were also cold. They remade the tacos, so that was good, but the were a bit bland. They did not have enough of the noodles left, so they could not remake the Buffalo Mac and cheese. However they asked me to pick something else. I went with the boneless wings. Those came out very hot and they were very good. It was just a very unfortunate start to the beginning of dinner.

Will never be perfect, or Homes and Garden ready, but its home, perfect the way it is. I had the scallop plate (one of many blackboard specials). Portion was very large and they were cooked to perfection, definitely tasted fresh and not Sysco frozen. Dad (92) stuck with Chicken Tenders which he DEVOURED. Thought we'd be taking 1/2 of it home, he doesn't usually eat much, they must have been delicious. We are just visiting, he lives here, I'm sure they will be seeing him often. Son (19) had the burger with bacon, the little I saw of it it looked perfectrly done.. I caught a glimpse before he inhaled it. All of our fries were done to perfection, slightly overcooked to make a crispy outside and awesome inside. They all disappeared pretty quick too. Was hoping for whole belly fried clams, but may have to wait for our next venture North from Maryland

The Little Grille has a Yankee backbone with a Mexican, Cuban and Brazilian infusion. All very tastefully done in a converted railroad depot. Service was impeccable with a gregarious and friendly waiter making superb recommendations. I had the chicken burrito with rice and black beans, a little of Brazilian fejioada, Cuban "moros y cristianos" and Mexican flavored chicken. Oh yummy. My spouse had the pulled pork and fries. Also excellent. They have a fine brew selection as well as featured drinks and they're getting an espresso maker to make espresso martinis. Superb lunch

The next table was too small for the 4 of us to eat comfortably without constantly bumping elbows. Finally, got a good seat, it was fairly warm, and room to move. The lighting was so dim, it made it difficult to read the menu. We were having to use the flashlights on our phones for lighting. The waiter seated us and then I guess he went on dinner break because we sat there for quite a bit waiting to at least order drinks. Or maybe it was just him covering the whole restaurant, I dunno, but I know we sat and waited. When he returned, we ordered drinks, and dinner as we didn't want to go through that wait again. I had never eaten at the Lobster Trap before, so I was looking forward to eating here, as being from the area, I know it's been around since I moved to the area in the early 80's. And by the looks of the place, that's the last time it went thru any kind of decor update. (I'm not being rude, just honest, but I'm sure if I'm wrong, u die hards will correct me). Sadly, I was disappointed with the whole shebang. The atmosphere, the food, the waiter, none of it made me feel like I couldn't wait to come back. I was sooooo hoping that this would be a valley jewel, "a must" to eat at again and again. For a meal that's going to cost you at least 75$ ( I don't drink alcohol) ,and a desire to take home the leftovers, you may want to skip The Lobster Trap.
