As soon as you're seated, you'll have a tempting signboard presented at your table with every southern classic you can imagine. With entrees like fried chicken and catfish, endless sides like turnip greens, white beans, and just about anything you can imagine fried, and every kind of southern pie, it's all there. The catfish is magnificent, with that wonderfully gritty cornmeal batter surrounding flaky, tender fish. The complimentary roll is also delicious! And the servers are very nice here! But there are some downsides. The fried okra, my favorite southern side dish, is actually soft and soggy. No self respecting southerner would ever make soggy fried okra. It's about the worst I ever had. And the onion rings, which are hard to mess up, were burnt black and lacked flavor. They were inedible. The cashier is rude and doesn't have time for "thank you" or small talk or a smile or even giving you your receipt when nobody else is in line to pay their bill. That's just how it is. If you want good catfish, Sling Shot Charlie's will come through. But if you want a southern culinary experience that's enjoyable, there are much better places to have it!

Their seasoned fries are awesome as well and their Philly cheesesteaks are delicious but WAYYYYY too small in size for the cost. I'm from NY and we would go out to Philly for cheesesteaks a lot and anyone out there would riot if they paid $13 for a small hoagie like this. Their beef cheesesteak was barely filled at all when I first tried it, but their chicken cheesesteak was definitely more filled but still very small for the price point. I also tried their catfish and unfortunately hated it because it tasted super fishy and you can tell it was from frozen filets. We also got their fried okra once and it was terrible. Super slimy and bland in flavor. Overall, we will be back for the wings and since I'm not a wing fan, I'll be back for the barely filled and overpriced, but delicious, cheesesteaks.

I went in with high expectations as it seems to be the only fancy spot for a long distance around. Also, I was a fan of the previous restaurant in this building, Vinegar Jim's. The service was friendly and the drinks were surprisingly good, though their cocktail menu is primarily sweet beachy drinks which I don't prefer. We started with the BBQ shrimp and burnt ends plate, both of which were excellent. My girlfriend and brother both got the Debris Samich, which I liked but they did not as the bun was rather soggy. I thought it tasted good and was happy to treat it as a knife and fork sandwich. I had the 38-day dry aged prime ribeye- which was offered at a great price for the quality and the treatment of the meat. The center was cooked exactly how I ordered it, but around the outside the meat somehow appeared to be raw while simultaneously having a burnt crust on the outside. I was underwhelmed because even though most of the steak was great the burnt bits turned me off. We had a few desserts, and my favorite was the butter cake. They're definitely worth a try. Good food, good prices, and friendly service.

The food was actually very good, fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal…read moreand would gladly order it again. The quality of the food is the main reason I am taking the time to leave this feedback. My one concern is the restaurant's use of plastic containers for hot food, especially containers that appear to be reused multiple times. Repeated washing, heating, and everyday wear can cause many types of plastic to break down over time. As plastic ages, it can develop tiny cracks, become brittle, and potentially release microscopic plastic particles into food. Scientific studies have shown that heat can increase the migration of chemicals and microplastic particles from certain plastics into food and beverages. While the amount can vary depending on the type of plastic and temperature involved, serving very hot food in older, repeatedly used plastic containers may not be the healthiest option for customers. Beyond the potential health concerns, reused plastic containers can retain stains, odors, and bacteria if they are not properly sanitized. Because the food is so good, I would encourage the restaurant to consider using higher-quality heat-safe containers or more environmentally friendly alternatives. Doing so would better reflect the quality of the food being served and demonstrate a stronger commitment to customer health and safety. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would recommend it. I simply hope the restaurant considers upgrading its food containers, as that was the only aspect of my experience that raised concern.
