We stopped by here for lunch after walking around and having been scared out of our wits at the Amsterdam Dungeon. They have a large outdoor seating area by the canal with umbrellas but it was hot so we decided to sit inside which was nice. Really cool decor with an intricate chandelier on the ceiling. Seemed like a very popular place with tourists and locals. I got the tomato soup which came piping hot, was rich and creamy and just the right mix of sour and savory. Nice complement with the bread too. Could have used another slice of bread to make it more filling. But it was a light lunch. The hubs got the smoked salmon salad which was quite a good portion and came with tomatoes and capers and onions and pickles and bread. We sat there for quite a while after we finished eating and they didn't bother us. We had to kill some time before heading over for the Van Gogh Rembrandt 360 experience. The bathrooms are downstairs and we even saw people walk in to only use them and they let them which was nice. Great place to have some Dutch food while seeing the sights in the city!!

This is the terrace, it is on the bridge, it must be one of the largest in Amsterdam.

Café van Zuylen is in a wonderful location on top of the Singel canal. You cannot beat this outdoor terrace. It's also cozy indoor cafe on the corner. There are umbrellas if it is raining too. It must be one of the largest outdoor terrace space in the centrum. It is also right next to the "skinniest" house in Amsterdam. It's easy to miss since it's so skinny! I didn't rate the food since I haven't eaten. We meet here regularly for coffee and drinks though.

Club sandwich

Fantastic spot to sit, soak up some sun on a beautiful spring day and have a drink, snack or lunch on a bridge overlooking a canal! Service was prompt and very pleasant. We had sourdough bread and hummus to start (ample and delicious) followed by a club sandwich and mozzarella tomato panino. Can't go wrong with either one. Lovely way to relax and watch Amsterdam passersby.

Great find close to our Hotel Die Port Van Cleve. Great atmosphere! Dutch food was great. I enjoyed it so much I went back at the end of the evening. Seemed like a good locals spot, but also welcoming to tourists. The Dutch Pea Soup was excellent as well as the Stompot and other Dutch snacks.

Really nice place to grab dinner. The atmosphere is inviting and the food was really good. Everyone was happy with their choices. Tried one of the local IPA's and didn't disappoint. Will definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for a solid place to enjoy a well cooked meal.

This is a cozy chill place with nice views of the canal. Enjoyed a small plate with an ice cold Heineken while sitting under the outdoor umbrellaed tables.

Smoked salmon

Walked in after walking around the city looking for lunch. It looked alright and that's what we got, just alright. Son had blt, I got croquets, husband had a sandwich and daughter ordered smoked salmon. We all ate half of our food. It was fine but not worth a return and idk if I'd recommend. Oh yeah, how could I forget that there's a cat there that goes from table to table. We didn't see it til after we ordered. If we had seen it before we would have probably left.

This was my favorite restaurant during our stay in Amsterdam. We usually came here for lunch and simple sandwiches like Ossenworst (raw beef sausage) or Oud Amsterdam (cheese). But we had a dinner here once and it was good too.

Well what a surprise! Classy, casual, friendly and awesome food. Menu had a bit of everything- staff was very sweet and the owner really loves what he does (you can tell because he's constantly smiling and doing something). Excellent beer and wine list too. Perfect for Coffee and Pastries or a full meal. Ignore all the reviews under 5 stars for this place as it's worth a stop.

We really liked the food there! The salmon pasta was great, not to heavy on the sauce and it was seasoned to perfection. The goat cheese salad with pear was amazing . We have been traveling for almost a month throughout Europe , and my boyfriend said it was the best salad he had thus far in our travels . I would say those two dishes were winners for sure ! The atmosphere was cool ... One side is just a pub, with some bar food and spills out into the sidewalk . The other side that we visited was the restaurant . There were several locals there, so that's always nice to see . I would would definitely return and do recommend trying it.

Croquettes ! A must try!!!

I enjoyed this place for lunch so much that I came back for diner the same day! Great atmosphere, good music and friendly/attentive staff. I had the traditional croquettes to start which were delicious and for diner had the beef stew and mash.:. Very filling and could not help myself to finish the dish. They also make a great cup of coffee!

Another five star location. Tons of outdoor seating on a canal. It's a pub... In Amsterdam... What more do you want?

Really delicious lunch of sandwiches and tomato soup. Good beer selection. You can sit outside at tables - or inside. Good service.

Interior is simple yet charming, the menu is average en the food is ok. The service is very bad: uninterested and rude.

Everything about this place was great!…read more I'll start with the service. We walked in around 4:10 and they didn't start food service for another 20 minutes. The waiter was super cool and told us to have a seat anywhere we liked and brought us a drink menu. He knew we wanted to eat so at exactly 4:30 he came and took our orders. Through out the meal he was on top of everything and even offered many suggestions! The food was spectacular as well. I had the trio of fries and my friends had other small plates that were all so good! And the sauces that come with the fries, mamma mia! We also shared the Boca's Platter and it was absolutely to die for. Do not pass this up. I repeat, do not pass this up! Between 4 people, the medium was plenty of food. The space itself was also nice. They had outdoor seating for nicer days. We went right when food service began on a Monday afternoon so can't speak to how busy it gets during peak hours. Go for the great service, go for the Boca Platter, whatever you do, just go!

The bruschetta was delicious and if you love blue cheese, get it...it's extremely rich and creamy. The three kinds of fries were solid; curly, sweet potato, and regular with some chili ketchups. The boca platter was HUGE and we got the medium for 4 people. Came with steak, fried shrimp, mackerel potato salad, crostini, and an assortment of cheeses and some pepperoni. Last but not least...my favorite...the tartare. The quail egg was delicately placed atop the center of the meat and placed alongside the four little crostini on the plate. It was juicy and had so much flavor, a little spicy but not an overwhelming amount of chili spice. This meal reminded me of tapas in Madrid; definitely stop by bocas and get everything!

Coffee & Coconuts, seriously another amazing cafe that I visited during my trip in Amsterdam!…read more This cafe is hidden on the outside, but once you step inside, it is massively huge with three stories of dining tables. After waiting to be seated, our hostess guided us upstairs to the third floor, where they have several more dining tables and cozy couches that you can sit on while you enjoy your coffee. My parents, having visited this cafe before during their last trip to Amsterdam, raved about this place and suggested that I try their famous coconut coffee. All three of us ordered their coconut coffee, with my dad adding an espresso shot to his own so that he could stay awake for the rest of the night. Once I reached that first sip, OMG. SO DELICIOUS. How can I make my own coconut coffee back at home?! I loved it so much that I really want to make a copycat of it. The straws are also bendable, which really makes it handy if you need to lower your straw a bit. If I could, I would get on a plane to Amsterdam just to come back for their coconut coffee. That's how delicious it is! Local or tourist, I strongly suggest Coffee & Coconuts. You will not regret coming here at all!
