They have a few hot sandwiches, a couple of hot flat breads and all of your standard sandwich fillings. Why is it so good? because everything is top quality and their passion is obvious. The beef is thick and rare. The chicken, weather it be coronation, mayo & sweetcorn or any of the other varieties they do, is stacked on and accompanied by any of the salads they have on the counter. You can tell that they want their customers to be as excited about their food as they are; and I am every time I eat here. But Sandwich Sandwich isn't just about sandwiches. Perched on the counter are the most amazing soft boiled scotch eggs, sausage bakes and delicious cakes. It's almost painful to stand looking at them if you're in a cue; they look so good! The guys have shaken up the lunch time sandwich run in Bristol, and I applaud them for their efforts.

They've been here for eight years and it has to be one of Bristol's best kept secrets. They have a good range of sandwich fillings with all the usual baguettes, paninis and loaves from local bakers, and some very fine fresh coffee to boot. It is the vibe that really gets this place going. The staff mix up their days choosing crazy themes to pull in the people. I've been there on Elvis day, 80s day and a Grease themed day. All pretty similar but who cares? They dance, sing and laugh constantly, turning any standard lunch break into a happy music-filled one. And I mean incredible! Every week they have 3 or 4 options to choose from. You pay by pay-pal and then pick them up from The Canteen on Stokes Croft, with a one hour window between 1-2. Now that's some serious underground Sandwich dealing! I was lucky enough to be invited to their debut last week, and I was really excited about it. In fact, I had to slow myself down as I pretty much ran down Gloucester Road. I got to The Canteen and waited for a minute for mine to brought out to me. A girl came to meet me and handed me a brown cardboard box with my name artfully written on it, a glass bottle of some red juice and a little cup cake. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to eat it in the Canteen, but I wasn't walking anywhere. I wanted it immediately! So I sat down, opened it up and tucked in. I chose the 'Steak on a bed of feta and beetroot with wild rocket and a homemade honey and mustard dressing, all compacted in to a toasted Sesame seed baguette' and oh my goodness, it was amazing! The steak was perfectly cooked and the feta and beetroot worked so well with the meat. I don't exactly know what the red juice was, but I'm guessing it was a homemade raspberry and mint juice - because it had raspberries and mint leaves in it - *Sherlock! It was really refreshing and I really wanted more. I would definitely have bought another bottle if I could. Fridays have always been my favourite day of the week; The Gourmet Sandwich Club just made them a whole lot better!

The sandwich deliciously tasty and super yummy, and the cookie, well the perfect dessert - with the raspberries adding that little extra something. We arrived before they opened and by the looks of the other 'vultures' circling around the entrance, this location is popular as a breakfast stop. They appeared to be having a staff meeting and once done, opened their doors to a group of hungry customers. The service was as quick and as friendly as I have experience in any location of this chain and the quality of food is consistent. I wish we had Pret in Canada... with the same menu as the UK.

I was in town for a meeting so I thought I'd pop in for a quick bite to eat. First impressions where good. This small deli can only host about a dozen or so people at the front of its restaurant. There is additional seating upstairs to which I took advantage of. However there is no lift or escalator so this isn't a good sign for anyone with walking difficulties or is in a wheelchair. Having said that after about five minutes of me taking my seat upstairs someone hobbled in on crutches so it can be done? The menu is quite extensive, boasting a whole host of classic Italian combinations. Sausage and peppers, pizza slices, fresh cannolis arancini balls, panini's and calzones. The food options are split over several laminated menu cards which is a bit excessive. I feel that all items could be placed on one menu in a traditional book format but that's is just me being picky. You have to place your order and pay at the counter, there is no table service as such. I plumped for their Italian sausage panini aptly called 'The Napoli'. It consisted of Italian sausage, roasted herb potatoes and mozzarella cheese. Baked in a fresh roll this was quite a big sandwich. The sausages where lovely. Perfectly seasoned and not too overpowering. The cheese again was a treat and worked well. The potatoes on the other hand where disappointing. Slightly underdone and completely tasteless. Definitely not roasted. I mean they may have been shown the inside of an oven but that's about it. As part of the combination it didn't really work which was a great shame. I ended up taking most of the potatoes out and leaving them. I had a coffee latte with my sandwich, not being a great coffee lover I can't really pass judgement on it because all coffee tastes the same to me. There was a bit of a wait for my order but it was cooked fresh so it's worth the wait. All in all it was a pleasant lunch choice. At £7.00 including the coffee I didn't think it was too horrendous. I'd definitely go back but I wouldn't have the same choice because of the potatoes. It's well worth going here rather than Burger King next door.
