It's pretty amazing how the same business can differ so much for location to location. I love the BTP on Whiteladies Road. Admittedly it still gets very busy and is too loud to work without headphones on, but the busyness of it all is what I like. It creates a buzzy atmosphere.
Gloucester Road, however, is busy in a lifeless kind of way. It feels very cold and doesn't seem to have any type of warming or welcoming atmosphere to it. I'm not sure if it is just because it is a huge building with lots of exposed brick work, but there is something very uninviting about it.
I went for breakfast with my girlfriend this morning and we both had the chorizo hash. We had to ask exactly what was included as that was all it said on the menu. It had: chorizo hash. spinach, mushrooms and poached eggs. Sounds absolutely delicious. I'll take it! And it should have been - but it wasn't!
The chorizo hash was really under seasoned. I was really excited to try the first mouthful, but was left really disappointed. What I could see on my plate should have tasted so much nicer than it did. It looked great! My eggs were OK, but Soph's (my girlfriends) were over cooked. We also swapped a chorizo hash because hers were a bit overdone. I quite like things like that a bit crispy, so I was fine with it. At least it added a bit more flavour.
The only reason this is a 3 star and not a 2 star is because of the coffee. I had a latte and it was superb. Definitely one of the best latte's I've had for some time.
With so many great places in Gloucester Road, BTP better get this right. But, to be honest, with the amount of mums and push chairs I see every time I go in there, I think they'll do fine as they are, which is a shame! read more
