Average place for food. The portions were very large. I opted for the appetizer size eggplant rollatini which was perfect size for me. My mother opted for the lasagna which she was was fine, but nothing special. My husband opted for the veal Marsala which he said was too thin and dry. The kids had pasta and it came out hot and cooked fine. The server was very attentive and brought re-fills as needed. This was a very average experience for us. There was nothing that would not make us come back, but nothing to bring us back. We did sit towards the front and I could not tell if there was a section in the back for quieter dining as it did get a little loud for our taste. read more

This place has the best Stromboli I have ever eaten. I ordered the American Stromboli and it is huge (glad I didn't order salad) and filled with tons of cheese, ham and other goodies. The crust is lovely and crispy and it is accompanied by a bowl of excellent tomato sauce. My companions had various pastas and all enjoyed their food very much. First time and last. My wife got lasagna and it was like ravioli from Chef Boyardee. Absolutely bad. I had veal picatta and it was no good. It was edible but barely. The picatta sauce was too watery and lacked the flavor. The veal was okay. I had a gift certificate and I see why. Just not good. Maybe they have great pizza but if they use the same sauce on pizza as the lasagna then it can't be good. The bread was the highlight. The soup also lacked flavor. This is an unfortunate review. I have been to this restaurant many times and have always experienced outstanding service and great food. I am sure that none of those things have changed but unfortunately this time the safety guidelines are not being followed. We kept having to remind and ask our server to wear his mask and no one behind the counters or in the kitchen were wearing masks. Some didn't even appear to have a mask near them at all. The people were nice as always but not wearing masks seems a bit inexcusable right now. read more

We have been to this restaurant many times while living in Apopka and surrounding area (15 yrs). The food is always above average yet over priced... But we go because the food is better than most in the area. Tonight was no different... However the visit has turned us off for a while if not forever. Now, there are plenty of positions on masks and Covid-19 in todays world... However tonight we watched food runner after food runner bring food to tables with their masks pulled down under their chin... Over and over the entire time we were there. Serving plenty of patrons over the age of 60/65. Then we noticed, what I assume was the kitchen manager ( white coat guy) prepping, making, packaging and serving food for both dine in and take out customers... Rolling and stretching dough for pizzas and all other items going into the oven not wearing a mask. All others in that area of cooking were wearing their masks... Maybe not a huge deal.... Except we watched him sneeze into his hand and NOT WASH HID HANDS! Never even slowed down making another delicious meal for someone either dinning in or taking there food home. We also watched him rub eye gunk multiple times with NO CLEANING OF HIS HANDS!!! So I was going to bring it up to the manager, until I watched him go from kitchen, to tables, to the bar, outside and of course, never cleaning his hands... Or wearing a mask... The only time I saw him put his mask over his face was when he saw me looking at him... Now to be fair it was not ALL bad... ALL servers were wearing masks the entire time we could see them... And the food was as always... Better than most places around there. Now, I understand it can be annoying... And hot to wear the mask... But you are serving food to people both in and out of your establishment, it is your duty to take caution to protect your customers. I know plenty of people will dismiss this as petty criticism but it was enough lack of care and hygiene that my family will refrain from visiting for an extended period time frame. read more

I absolutely love this place. In all the years that I've gone here I've never been disappointed. Fresh, fresh, fresh!!! What more can one say. Too many places make gnocchi that is so darn heavy. These are like light fluffy pillows. The calamari & mussels (my two favorite dishes anywhere) are just simply fabulous. On top of all this they make a killer pizza. The place is nice & clean. They have two sides to the restaurant. One is set up for more fine dining, but you can get the entire menu in either side. Service has always been good. Several years ago, I went here with a couple of friends. I'd never thought of having the New York Strip. My friend told me it was fantastic. It was & better than many steak houses that you may visit. We have been ordering food from Positano's since they opened and also from the other locations when in the neighborhood. The food, specifically the pizza, is always the same level of quality. When you order a cheese pizza, you know what you will get. The same goes for their spaghetti and meatballs which is standard stuff. However items which require a bit more attention like chicken and steak can be a hit or miss. I have had recently a filet mignon which was so over cooked that it could have been mistaken for shoe leather. I specifically asked for rare to medium rare and I guess along the chain of command the order got lost or maybe the cook in the back got busy and forgot the rule of thumb when cooking steak. When you cook steak on an open flame, 2-4 inches above the flame, cook the steak each side for 1 minute (rare), 2 minutes (med rare), 3 minutes for (medium), 4 minutes for well-done. And that is EACH SIDE. However if you are on an electric grill, the heat should be medium when cooking. Beyond 4 minutes it is shoe leather. For cooking a chicken breast cook until 165 internally, but if you are making chicken parm, it would need to be a little undercooked then thrown in to bake with the cheese to melt. Tonight the order was good but not perfect. The other problem with our recent order was the pasta fagioli (bean soup). When I get soup from a restaurant it should be, well, "soupy", wet, liquidy (not really a word but you get the point). When we opened our soup it had the consistency of baked beans (but worse). There was ZERO liquid in it, ZERO pasta. It was as if the cook used a slotted spoon to serve the soup. We ended up adding chicken broth to it in order to eat it. It was tasty but I would expect that some one in the kitchen would know the difference. Overall there is nothing wrong with the flavors at Positanos. As I mentioned we have eaten hear many times and never really had much issue with the service or the food. The staff is usually friendly and there have been some extremely perfect servers and hostesses at this location. We've even used their party room for holding small gatherings. Tonight they receive my wrath. I was unhappy with the quality of the food. read more

Atmosphere was nice, food was not that impressive. Mediocre actually. I was expecting more from their dishes. Large portions which is nice. I'm not a great cook, and it tasted like something I could have made for much cheaper. We kept joking about that at our table, how it would have been something I cooked and we all would have wished I would have just picked up tacos. I know that sounds terrible, the food wasn't terrible but it was average to sub average which is disappointing when the expectations given by the environment and prices would be interpreted to be above average. Awesome pizza and great take out service. My two little boys and I stopped in late on a Friday night while heading home to Mount Dora. Being unfamiliar with the area and the kids wanting a "fancy pizza" we pulled up the Yelp app and the reviews were great but it was that first picture of a big yummy cheese pizza was exactly what my boys wanted. I want to sit and eat but the boys wanted to go home, even the place was obviously busy the staff were quick with our order and we were in and out in no time! The kids loved the pizza and so did our neighbor! There was more than enough for hubby when he got. Plus I had gotten a lasagna and cream of mushroom soup. What a great place. Erica was our server. I'm from Chicago and there are a great number of wonderful Italian restaurants there,but I'm telling you, this was close, so very close to being perfect. The service was great for a busy Friday night. I ordered the lasagna, which was bland enough to remind me of an awful wholesale frozen lasagna. I wouldn't recommend it. The food also was presented rather poorly, like they just threw the food onto a cheap plastic plate without a care. The food seemed to be of low quality, the beef in my meal was very similar to Pede's offerings. If you have lower standards for dining and don't like lasagna then this would likely be an enjoyable experience for you. You can tell by the atmosphere that the prices are heavily marked up. By this I mean that the prices are average compared to the competition, but the food itself suffers. I'd give this place another shot, and try a more popular dish. For now, however, I'd avoid this place for a good lasagna. read more

Gosh, I'm surprised by all the 5 stars. Our experience was a solid 3 to 3 and a half but no where NEAR a 5. Not all that friendly when we got there, service good but not great. The food, while plentiful, was not what I'm used to for 'great italian'. I had Gnocchi and they were literally 'wet'...from either being super overcooked or reheated or something. All the sauces were unappealing and looked literally like they came out of a can. "Fresh cheese" was a stringy mess you get at the warehouse club in bulk and the salads were small and nothing special. One of our group had a stromboli which they raved about, but it was served at least 5 minutes before the rest of the food. Again, fine experience and if we're in the area we would go back in but it's not a place to drive out of the way for in any way based on our visit. read more

My wife and I went here the other day, having driven by hundreds of times over the years. I wish for a half star here, for 3.5 would be the perfect rating, but alas, there just isn't. I rounded up due to some great service we received. It all started as we were waiting to be seated, the gentleman making the pizza was watching our young son in awe of him spinning dough. He then put on a show flipping it around, and gave him some dough to try to copy. It was fun, and passed our 15 minute wait. As for the food, I can't say I'm in love with the house salad dressing, although I'll admit I'm not a creamy Italian dressing guy, it was just bland to me. The bread was fresh and hot, and the garlic knots were spot on. They had a flaky, crusty outside, and were nice and soft in the middle, and of course were well coated with garlic and oil. The dinner courses were on the slightly above average side. I had the chicken parmesian, which was about as good as most restaurant chains, and the fettuccine alfredo I thought was great. It seemed to have some extra cheese in it that made it less soupy, and thicker in consistency. My wife had the penne a la vodka, and she seemed to enjoy it. Overall, the service was attentive, our food seemed fresh, and the price was on par with what we received. One thing I did find puzzling though, was this concept that they are "fine dining." The sign outside says yes, but the inside says no. On that scale, comparing it to fine dining, it would be 3 stars, but on casual, 3.5/4. read more

I have been going to the restaurant for years and like the quality of food and service, I find the value is slipping and have to only give it two stars. My favorite is the "Mama Mia" balsamic chicken dish with a medley of vegetables Plus it irked me that they used to match the happy hour two for one glass of wine that Chili's offers. Then this restaurant went to only on Thursdays and then not at all. One glass of wine of an average California winery is $ 8.50. Having two glasses of wine is as much as my meal and I refuse. The salad offered is fresh and tasty but the house dressing is blah. Service is always good . A better experience for value and quality of food can be had by competitive restaurants and this restaurant is not doing any incentives to make them stand out. read more

My son, daughter-in-law, husband and I, wanted to get together for a nice dinner and we decided to choose this restaurant because it was close to my sons house. It did not disappoint. I was there with co-workers who'd been frequenting Positano for 10+ years. Penne a la vodka is popular for a REASON. Great homemade sauce and portions that make you look forward to leftovers. They have Blue Moon beer that's served in a frosted glass which = perfection. My friend had the eggplant rollatini - flavorful and beyond. I am going back for the pizza, to be sure. read more

I've had better pizza else where, the dough was good the sauce was bland and little to no spices used. We just ordered 2 slices and a coke to try the place out. The service was Really poor. We waited 15mins before someone approached our table. He brought bread and then left. No eye contact no word spoken just bamb bread and gone.I saw him again and made eye contact He spoke to a young girl and she glanced our way then kept walking. I was about to leave then thought I would give her one more minute. She came by and said she was sorry and had a lot of things going on. We found this was a new server because she messed up another tables order and the owner said it was because she was new there. Overall the restaurant really needs better service. This little gem of a place is around the corner from me. There are not many dining options in this area, so I'd have to say this is probably the best place to go for miles. I hear it's really happening at night on the weekends (many people eating outside, band playing, etc.) but I haven't been. I mostly go here for lunch. Sometimes their food is a little bland, but it always tastes fresh and simple (if you're in the mood for that). I love chicken francese the most probably. It's lightly battered chicken cooked with lemon and white wine, served with mixed veggies and a few chunks of yummy sweet potato. (No pasta comes with it, which I like. Pasta would just be too much and I wouldn't be able to finish it.) My favorite munchie at Caffe Positano is their tomato soup. Every time I'm there, you better believe I will order their tomato goodness. They say it's freshly made when you order. Hmm. It tastes really good but I don't know about that. The only issue with enjoying this soup is they always forget to offer fresh parmesan cheese on top. Sometimes I even forget that I want it, and by the time I realize I don't have any, I'm already half-way done. I'm no detective for the cheese police, but I notice this tiny fault. Maybe the rapid-cheese-firing people at Olive Garden can train the Caffe Positano staff on this. The restaurant is pretty large in size and there are two sections. I love Cafe Positano! I usually come here when I'm in the area for family occasions, because my dad loves this place too. I almost always get their Chicken Marsala, because the chicken is always tender and the sauce is mouthwatering. My dad, who does not like mushrooms, loves the sauce, which says a lot. The hot rolls they bring out are fantastic, and their tiramisu is a thing of beauty. You can taste just a hint of khalua, and they put little chocolate bits in with the mascarpone cheese.
