We came across this coffee bar when we arrived at Assembly Row. Since it was too early to have dinner, we decided to get something to drink to pass the time. We went inside even though they have some outdoor seating: it was a day with on-and-off rain. The staff here is very friendly and patient. My husband ordered a pumpkin spice latte, and I ordered a sweetened iced tea. The iced tea was strong, which is nice to see, and the sweetener added to it was just right. The latte was every bit as good as Starbucks's offering. I liked the ambiance here. It gives off a homey and cozy vibe. Some tables even have upholstered chairs, which further the homey vibe. We chose a table that had regular chairs. We noticed customers with their laptops out, presumably working on their tasks. No one was made to feel rushed. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. If I lived in the area, I could easily picture myself visiting here from time to time for a cup of tea. They have outdoor seating, which I imagine is nice to use on a nice day. My wife and I typically come here on coffee dates. Why? Because the music, the interior decor/design, and exceptional coffee make us feel as if we are living out a scene in a romance flick. I want to give a shout out to Carla, who graciously provided me with kindness/hospitality/excellent customer service. This is a perfect cafe to catch up with a friend, work on your laptop, or quick grab and go. It's usually always busy in the cafe but the service is quick. The cafe is clean and bright. Reviewing chains is always so weird for me because, in all honesty, these aren't that different. Cafe Nero is pretty dependably average in terms of coffee and food, but above average in terms of being a good place to work. The wifi is not only available (hear that, Barismo?) but is also pretty good, despite all the freeloader students (as someone who used to be one of them). The pistachio frappe latte was honestly not great and I could not get myself to finish the drink. Wow, the service was ridiculously slow. There were only 2 people ahead of me in line, and it took probably 10+ mins to get up to order. They take your order at the register and then make everything, coffee and sandwiches before moving on to the next person. The food was meh as well. I got the chacon breakfast sandwich. All the sandwiches are premade, sitting in the case waiting to be heated up so I should have known that they weren't going to be great. The bacon was so undercooked that I took it off. I got a hot mocha, and at least that was good! My favorite part was the ambiance. They had mismatched tables, chairs and couches. The Mango Eclair was DELICIOUS- it also had passionfruit flavor which sent it further into the stratosphere of excellence. I will get baked goods from Caffe Nero every time I visit Boston! Especially this Eclair! My only critique is that I ordered a refresher drink as well, and it tasted incredibly weak / watered down to the point it just wasn't enjoyable. I would be willing to bet that the main line of drinks - coffee, lattes, teas and hot chocolate would be delicious and I'll definitely try some on our next visit and post an update. I swung by here for a coffee pick-me-up, and the caramel latte was very good. I also grabbed a couple of pastries since they were highlighted as seasonal specialties. The cinnamon kouign amman, while hard to pronounce, was oh so easy to eat. This muffin-esque treat was delicious. Just a short walk over and we walked into what seemed like an Italian Starbucks. I ordered a double espresso and received it pretty quickly. I added a bit of sugar and we were on our way. I like strong espresso not the watered down stuff you get at certain coffee shops. This espresso from Caffe Nero was hot and strong. Caffe Nero is my go-to place to get work done. I love the caramel latte -- I ask them to make it warmer and they always accommodate my request. The space is phenomenal. WiFi and electric plugs make it someplace you can comfortably stay. Great energy. Comfortable seating. Bathroom is clean. Gets really crowded -- given its location, no surprise. I lowered my rating because I found the service to be very sub par. The baristas look annoyed and they are fairly rude with their disinterest. After giving this place a try in Boston, I'm now really disappointed that they don't exist in Philly. Quite honestly, they may have some of the best cold brew I've ever had. It manages to combine smoothness and boldness equally. And somewhat surprisingly because you never know what you're going to get with a chain coffee shop, I really liked the food options. Service was very friendly and helpful as well. Unfortunately, the food was really lacking. The sausage panini-like sandwich tasted like it could have come out of the freezer section of any grocery store - processed bread, chunks of sausage, mixed in a melted cheese mesh - it really was nothing to write home about. The chicken salad sandwich, ensconced in a croissant, contained some mayonnaise laden chicken bits (which also tasted more or less processed) and not much flavor beyond the mayo and the buttery croissant flavor. Caffe Nero coffee shops are pretty consistent wherever you go: good coffee at a fair price. The aesthetics of this specific shop are adorable compared to the smaller Boston locations. They have twinkly lights, tons of outside seating, and a bocce ball area. I ordered an iced mocha with almond milk and it did not disappoint. [Note: they only have two types of dairy free milk (almond and soy), which was a slight bummer.] I had to take off one star because of the HORRENDOUS amount of gnats & fruit flies in the pastry case. I came with the intention of ordering coffee and a snack, but quickly changed my mind when I got to the counter. I've never seen that many flies in a coffee shop before, and it made me question the freshness and cleanliness of the shop. I was debating between 3-4 stars for this place based on the pastry case alone, but ultimately decided on 4 because I suppose most people come here for the coffee and the location, not the snacks. read more

This location has a nice and clean interior. The ceilings are very high and there are hanging lights all around. I ordered an iced latte with oat milk and it tasted alright but not the best. As of today, the store is operating under revised hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Although the coffee might not be my favorite, the location deserves more stars because of its atmosphere. We were in Assembly for a busy day of shopping and errands. After spending 15 min fighting our way through the tjmaxx parking lot, we needed coffee. We stopped at Caffe Nero to get a quick coffee before scavenging through TJMaxx and Trader Joe's for a variety of things. I've seen Caffe Nero around but never been to one myself. It has a nice industrial look and would probably be great for holing up to do work. There was no wait because the barista was really quick to make drinks - feels like a cause and effect situation. I got the iced vanilla latte and my boyfriend just got a small hot coffee. He was a fan of the quality. I also liked his coffee and I'm not huge on hot black coffee. I will say my vanilla latte was a little too sweet for my liking. My only other complaint is there was a swarm of fruit flies by the trashcan/straw area. Not sure how one addresses that but it doesn't look great and protecting my coffee from impending fruit flies was a bit tedious. Over all, good coffee. Good pick me up while shopping. Stopped by here to get a quick bite to eat before hitting the road. Caffe Nero has a very nice patio area and a good amount of indoor seating. Like any great coffee shop, it's got WiFi. Free parking as well for a few hours. They have Italian-brand espresso makers and plenty of Italian-style sandwiches. I wasn't that hungry, so I ordered a slice of limoncello mascarpone cake and a peppermint iced tea. The cake was excellent--you could definitely taste both the limoncello and mascarpone--though the tea was nothing special. The restroom was very clean and well-lit (you'd be surprised how many great coffee shops have dim bathrooms!). The food is a bit on the pricier side, but the ambiance makes it a great place to come relax and get some work done. A great stop in the Assembly Row area. read more

Gorgeous outdoor patio area with long rock granite fountain display. Coffee/espresso is good, but a decent distance from great unfortunately. The large selection of Italian sandwiches remind me of what you find all over Rome and in every Italian gas station along the highways....but unlike throughout Italy, these are not cheap at about $8-9/sandwich.
