Best tiramisu omg, not the best I ever had but pretty close second! It's moist and light , not too sweet and its a somewhat healthy portion. Pricey but worth every bite! I will keep coming back over and over. Some of the other sweets are good too if they are out of the tiramisu. I got the prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted pepper panini which was listed as the customer favorite on the menu. It was a good panini, however, nothing special. My friend got the breakfast panini and liked it but again nothing special, and he preferred the prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted pepper panini instead. The place has great espresso and beautiful looking pastries. I will be coming back for a giant cookie someday soon. The atmosphere here is what draws you in as well as the assortment of sweet treats. Being here on a Saturday reminds me of the old days when the City was vibrant so it was great to experience this again. Hubby is on the hunt for an authentic cannoli so we came here based on you yelper. The filling is pretty good and smooth with mini chocolate chips. The shell was okay and not crispy since the cannoli is prefilled. Eating this back at the hotel and I really needed a nice cappuccino. Ugh! We also picked up a tiramisu which was okay. It was quite wet and lacking in coffee flavor and I'm not sure if the cream is heavy cream versus mascapone. It was very light and not overly sweet at all. This has always been our go to Tiramisu spot! When it's coming out a Pyrex pan you know it's going to be really good. The staff is super friendly and they are really fast turning around your order. It felt like a Tardis entering the cafe. At first it was deceivingly small but when you turn to the left there was a lot of more seating. Horrible service. We sat down outside to study, was looking through the online menu. The staff came out saying the seating was for customers only very rudely. We told him we're going inside to order, only to find out it's cash only. We had no cash on us so we decided to go look another spot. Not two minutes later he comes out to say it again, we told him we didn't know it was cash only and was leaving soon. We gathered our stuff and went inside to throw our trash away in a trash can near by the door, and the employee then said "this isn't your trash can, you need to ask." Home to North Beach poets, writers, intellectuals and locals including the late poet laureate Jack Hirschman and legendary Lawrence Ferlinghetti who were known to hold court here on occasion. The owners and staff including William, Guillermo, Eric, Antonio, Benito and Carlitos make you feel like a VIP. I'm OBSESSED with their almond torta. It's gluten free for whom it may concern, and so decadenty moist and nutty. Has a vaguely citrusy taste as well, like orange zest perhaps. Truly inspired. As for the place itself, it's a cool cafe for a night time hangout. I spent some hours parked there at a table working on a sculpture. No one noticed or complained. Only thing that's vaguely annoying is the bathroom sitch. You have to have an associate let you in with a key, and occasionally they forget you're in there and will let someone else in while you're still doing your business. I made the mistake of ordering the sacrapantina as well........ the chocolate icing was too thick , cake was way too sweet. Also did not have much flavor, again. It was moist, though. It's so delicious, not too rich, and the pistachio flavor is pronounced and is balanced perfectly with the fluffy plain cream texture. SO GOOD. We also ordered the tiramisu, and I was not impressed. It was TOO moist, and had little to no flavor. The cream was fluffy and the texture of the cake was good but the flavor was not there whatsoever. Will be returning to try their other delicious cakes! I went with a Korean friend and when we were ordering, the cashiers said "Xie xie" to us at the end. Cash only. I love this spot, it's a perfect place for dates me and my partner enjoy it. Like us Latinos, Italians also drink coffee anytime of the day. So it's refreshing to grab a cup of coffee late at night. The people working in the register are incredibly friendly and helpful. Parking is a little difficult as North Beach is a popular tourist destination and Chinatown is two blocks away but it is bus accessible. Their pastries are decent, a little too pricey for the small amount you have. but other than that, I highly recommend trying coffee. read more
