I have consistently visited this adorable caffè for the past two years and I have been nothing but pleased every time. The service is excellent, and the food is equally as amazing. The owner, who is always behind the counter cooking or making beverages, never fails to make me feel welcome and doesn't forget who I am despite how long its been! The atmosphere of this Parisian-style caffè is comforting, and makes me feel like I'm in another world for the time being. What a gem! So much more than I expected. Huge menu all displayed on the wall. Very friendly people, seems like a good hangout. Coffee selection is just beyond... So many choices from the famous "poop" coffee to straight up hot black. Beautiful presentation too. That man is a true barrista (barristo?). Food was pretty tasty. Love the crepe options. I tried a savory crepe and I would do it again. The boyfriend partook of the homemade spinach focaccia and was happily impressed. One important thing: they only accept CASH. We didn't have any. They owner told us just to pay next time we came in. We laughed. He didn't, he was serious! Super hospitable (We ran to an ATM anyways). Was a frequent customer then moved away from the area. Didn't have any problems with the owner prior. 4-5 years later I was randomly in the area and decided to return. I placed my order and smiled. Being new to RI, I have been slowly trying different local restaurants. One thing I hadn't been able to find yet, however, was an amazing cafe. Until I found Caffe Bon Ami, that is. Walking in, I was immediately overwhelmed by the choices of coffee/beverages in general. The staff and owner, Malcolm, were able to spout off hundreds of different types of drinks at me until I chose one (I landed on a hot moccachino with cinnamon). I also got a Belgium waffle with fresh strawberries and bananas. Although it was a bit pricier than I imagined, it was worth every penny!! It was the best coffee and waffle I had ever tasted. Malcolm also was nice enough to come talk to me for a bit while I ate. We talked about my move to RI, his funny experience in my old state of NC, and how everything at Bon Ami is made fresh by hand. Was looking for a place that served good espresso in the area and stumbled upon Caffe Bon Ami. Very happy I did because the cappuccino was excellent, which is hard to find around RI. They deserved five stars for that alone, but the people working there and the owner were very friendly. Talking with him he was extremely nice and takes a lot of pride in the products they serve. Came here about a week ago, out of many coffee places in Rhode Island this is by far the best places I've been too. The coffee was awesome. Very tasty and uniquely made. The service was awesome, most places you go to buy something to eat the employees aren't as proud to be there so they give you dirty looks and aren't in the mood to service you, but Cafe Bon Ami was very different i was actually able to take my time to pick what I wanted to have. The owner was a great man, he taught me something that day I was so surprised about the facts of different coffee beans he knew of. I would definitely come here again!!!! read more

This place is adorable. I only had chai latte and my sister had a coffee, but we both loved our drinks. It is a very cute little café and the service was wonderful. It is cash only, which I did not know before I placed my order (I failed to read the signs), but the cashier/barista said to just bring the money back some other time. I was two dollars short and they love their customers so much that they just let me go. Of course, I ran to the bank to take out more cash but it just amazed me. This is a great little place and I will definitely be back, this time with more cash. read more

If your looking for the laid back type of cafe without all of the TV's and wifi this is the place. It's based on a European bistro with phenomenal food and excellent coffee. You must try the Kopi-Luwak coffee if you go there and make sure it's between 7am and noon for that specific coffee. This cafe was built on character, integrity and love. Everything from the homemade muffins to the waffles to the Panini sandwiches are excellent. This is a place you can bring a date or just yourself and you will meet some great people here as well. The owner Malcom dedicated his life to building this cafe with his mom Susie who passed away. Susie's spirit and love still roam this cafe everyday. This place is fabulous. It is cash only and I forgot to take $$ out prior to stopping in. The ladies were generous enough to let me take my coffee and GF/Vegan cookie as I went to the ATM down the street. Even told me I could come back later to pay if it was an inconvenience. First visit and I went for the Kopi-Luwak coffee brewed in a Belgian siphon machine ($25, enough coffee for 2 people). The coffee was delicious, the owner is very, very, VERY enthusiastic and knowledgeable about his product (he advertises "pomp and circumstance" and he isn't kidding... you get a mini-class when you order, and even shows you a picture of the animal that "produces" the coffee and a sample of the, ahem, "raw product" when it is extracted from the marsupial... verging on over-the-top but hey, I told you he was enthusiastic). Overall it was a great experience. Also had a pecan waffle, which was a good batter-style waffle, but the real treat was the coffee. I'm definitely coming back, and if my future visits are as consistently good as my first, this place will rank a 5. This was the best coffee experience I've had in Rhode Island in the almost 4 years I've lived here. Worthwhile mention: This place accepts cash only. read more

So much about this place reminds me of France: the decor, the food/drink choices, the service. That last part is not a compliment. I've never waited so long for a latte (or heard it pronounced with an accent on the "e"). My wife and I were going to have breakfast, but we waited so long to order that she gave up and left. And it wasn't because there was a line, but because the guy running it was micromanaging so much he couldn't be bothered to acknowledge me for several minutes because he had "9 other things to think about" (his words). Even once he had someone take my order, it took several minutes to get my latte. He had the boy who took my order come out to ask if I wanted chocolate powder (because I finally just sat down) and then, even after the boy told him I didn't, he insisted on coming out to ask me again. The place was only about 1/2 full, so I can't imagine how it would be when it was actually busy. The latte was good, not great. It was too hot, there was no lid for the to-go cup, and I think the espresso might have waited too long to go into the milk while he was doing his 9 other things. Some of the food selections looked like they might have been really good, but I have no plan to go back to find out. read more

I was visiting Rhode Island for about 3 weeks and found this cafe my first day there. I went back several times. Malcolm, the owner, is an amazing human and everything at the cafe is made from scratch (except the bagels). The biscotti is fantastic and not bone dry. The coffee is probably the best coffee in Rhode Island. I had the power plate several times and it was great. Malcolm is also a great listener and the cafe vibe is exactly what I would look for in a "regular spot". If I were living in Rhode Island, this would be my go to place for breakfast, brunch, and coffee. Definitely coming back! read more

No matter what he is doing or who he is talking to Malcolm knows how to make everyone feel cared for and special! The last time I was there lovely classical music was playing and it was just the right music I needed to wake me up and start my day off right. You guys. I consider myself a caramel latte connoisseur. This place has the best iced caramel latte I have ever had in my life. That's a bold statement. But I stand by it 100%. The owner is friendly and knowledgable about all things coffee. He gave me a sample of the milk that they use in their lattes (which is part of what makes it so damn good) and I swear the heavens opened up above me and I saw the light for the first time. Passed by the Dunkin Donuts on Park as I was looking for a fresh bagel other than the usual DD. walked in and was third in line to order. There were couple of specials for breakfast so decided to call my daughter to see if she wanted one of the out of the ordinary dishes. Got on my call (keep in mind 3rd in line) The owner came out to help and looked up at me on my cell and started complaining to other customers how he hated when people came in and got on their cell phone to ask others what they wanted. I was stepping aside (even though there was no one behind me). Due to his rudeness I turned around and walked out. This is no way to treat a customer- especially not from an owner. The best breakfast place around! Great customer service. As soon as you walk in, Malcolm makes you feel like part of the family. This was not our first time here, and we will continue to stop in when we are in the area. Not only does the staff make you feel right at home, but the food and drinks are wonderful. Today we had a capuccino, a gluten free english muffin with egg, spinach and cheddar cheese, and a wheat bagel with ham, egg, spinach, and cheddar cheese. The food was fresh and delicious. The kitchen staff brought it out to us and made sure we were satisfied with everything. The friendly regulars chatting within the cafe are a testament to the wonderful population that this cafe attracts. They always ask how your day is going and are willing to strike up a conversation. Cozy cafe in the bustling city of Cranston; the food is fresh and delicious, as well as their coffee, and the staff is very friendly. I hope they consider moving to a bigger place, because it does have limited space and seating which is unfortunate when it gets busy. You can't imagine how great this place is, especially when you see its location in a nondescript area of a place like Cranston, Rhode Island. I live in the SF Bay Area now and have tried hundreds of independent coffee shops in Rhode Island, New York, and in Sidney, Australia. This is the best I've ever had. I went way out of my way, twice in two days, on a recent visit, just to get a cup of the golden concoctions there. I may have used the whole trip to Rhode Island as an excuse just to go there. The owner Mal is super friendly and very talented. On a good day you'll catch his Mom, in her 80's, helping out as well. He can make coffee using almost any method: espresso machine, french press (like Europeans like it), sleeve (like at Philz in the Bay Area), or drip. His blendeds are made from actual coffee and skim, 2%, or whole milk, however you'd like them, and he adds syrups in the right quantities. They taste like coffee instead of sugar. He also makes crepes, waffles, and muffins from scratch. It's also beautiful and clean, with a unique copper ceiling and other decorative elements. Really, truly, this undiscovered gem is among the best in the country. read more

We have ventured to Caffe Bon Ami a few times and every time we have been completely satisfied! The owner and his staff will go above and beyond what is expected in order to please their customers. No matter where you are in the state this place is well worth the drive! We have sampled various coffees and loose leaf teas and they all have been served piping hot and have been delicious. The coffee is excellent and I like to get my espresso beans from him. If I have any questions on machines or coffee he always responds and answers my questions with great detail.
