Dee's is by far the best sandwich shop in Cranston, and it's one of the best in RI. It's been my go to for nearly 20 years, and I have never, ever, been disappointed. Always fresh bread (I love the hard Italian roll), plenty of meat, fresh vegetables, and the best dressing around. Absolutely amazing every time! My go to sandwiches are the Italian grinder, the corned beef & Swiss, and the pastrami and Swiss. Service is always great here and they are very efficient in both making the sandwiches and at the cash register. There are a few tables you can eat at, or you can take your food to go. Either way, the charm of this old school sandwich shop is unmatched. It's always busy at Dee's, but if you call your order in early, it will be ready for you when you arrive. One of the best old school deli's in RI. My 'go-to' is the Italian 'all-the-way' on a Hard Roll. But if you are lucky enough to be there on a Tuesday you have to try the Veal, it's slow cooked and mouth watering delicious! Prices are reasonable and it's always busy. Takes me a lot to write a bad review but I was SO SO SO DISAPPOINTED... the sandwich was $19 and tiny. The steak was not seasoned, the roll not toasted, and the American cheese was ice cold and not melted. The potato salad was disgusting as it was separated and sour. Dee's Deli is my first stop on the 9th Annual #BestSandwichRI showdown. Dee's Deli has their own parking lot with a few spots and street parking. I parked on the street since the parking lot was full. Inside Dee's Deli is very cozy, various awards they have earned hanging on the wall, and merchandise. There are about 4 seating tables. When we arrived on a Saturday afternoon about 12:30pm, the line was up to the door. We waited in line about 15 minutes prior to placing our order and they were almost out of bread. Sandwiches come in a small or large size. I got the small daily special steak sandwich with Shaved Steak, American & Provolone Cheese, Mushrooms & Onions and my husband got the small build your own roast beef sandwich with Mayonnaise, Lettuce, Tomatoes, and Provolone cheese. We also got a side of macaroni salad. After a few more people ordered, they had only multigrain bread left and then after a few minutes, they were out of multigrain and moving onto wraps. It was still maybe 1 hour prior to closing. Right by the line to order, there is a fridge of drinks. I got an iced tea. The bread was very fresh and a perfect combination with the Shaved Steak, Cheese, Mushrooms & Onions. The sandwich was so tasty. I also really enjoyed the macaroni salad. You enter a small eatery with very friendly service. It does not seem like there is much order or organization in the process of getting your food but stay in the line and they will get to you. This place can only be characterized as being great because of the line that is always forming. The grinders are filled with fresh cold cuts and the price is unbeatable. Not sure the Mac salad is homemade but it does definitely compliment the sandwiches. The torpedo bread is nice and fresh and maintains that Italian crunch. A suggestion- it is best to come early because they only serve until they have bread left. And there are days that they do sell out! Top Quality Sub We've tried Italian subs all over and Del's wins hands down. Family owned and consistently good. The eggplant sandwich I got was pretty good. I came for RI Food Fights and was given a small eggplant which was larger than I thought (normally around $10). And it was stuffed very well with layers of thin eggplant. Now unfortunately the sandwich didn't have too much flavor and it had too much sauce. The eggplant itself was so tender, but needed more seasoning. Same with the sauce. They forgot to put any cheese on it which would've helped the taste. Unless you walk in, This establishment is so popular, you need to call in your order before 11 am to insure you'll get your sandwich that day. Because they close at 2:30. I've been here numerous times since it's walking distance, and they're by far the best sandwich place in RI. I decided on an Italian grinder, because I heard that was one of their specialities. They look amazing, and taste good as well. I participated in the RI food fight event. You basically pay $36 for a bunch of sub tickets are various places then vote in favorite. I got the eggplant parm here. It was pretty good but I waited my entire 30 min lunch break in line to order it. If you call to order you get a voice mail that says don't leave a message. It's a very busy place. The lady at the front seemed annoyed with me that I had a free sub ticket even though I purchased a second sub. Just not a friendly person. My husband validated that and said she was miserable as well so at least it's not just me. Overall okay but would I wait 30 min again? You gotta love Dee's, it's been around forever. It gets really busy around lunch time everyday. Calling in your order helps to beat the line. They do close early if they sell out of all the bread before normal closing hours. Which has happened more than once. If you want an Italian grinder come here! HOLY LARGE SANDWICH BATMAN! Could have shared it - but ended up spreading it across two meals. I had an Italian grinder and it was delicious. Great bread - not super soft but not so hard and crusty that you hurt your mouth eating it. I also am a big fan of shredded lettuce in my grinders so that was exciting. We had trouble ordering last week, couldn't get through. Made a note to call right at opening and we were able to get through and place our order. When we arrived there is a sign limiting it to three customers inside, so i waited my turn and it moved fast. Sandwiches were ready as soon as I got inside. I have read so many great reviews about this Deli and had to try it out. I popped in Friday, about 230-245, wasn't too busy, inside is small, but adorable. Order right at the counter, this experience, was pretty slow, but the food is so worth it! I had the meatball sandwich and the meatballs were fresh, moist, delicious! Bread was tremendous and can't recommend this place enough! I've heard it does get very busy, parking is limited, and I did try calling order in first, no one picked up. I also noticed that there did t appear to be an area to pick up phoned in orders, which makes me think you may have to wait in line to pick up call ahead orders. I love this deli. Everything I've ever had in there was so so good. We went again this year for the food fighters sandwich challenge. I always vote for them because I really think they are the best. I am also very lucky that they are in the same city where I live. It was nice to just order from the car and Mike went in and picked it up quick and easy. He had the Italian grinder which is always absolutely amazing. I had the meatball sandwich. First of all, I ordered a regular size and it was huge. I cut it in half and Mike had half later. These were the best meatballs and sauce that I've had in a restaurant. It was just like something that was made at home by someone who really cared and wanted to produce and serve really good authentic food. I would like to go back there at some point just to see if I can buy the meatballs and sauce because it would be nice to have a home style spaghetti and meatball dinner with these delicious meatballs. The people are very nice and the store is clean. There was a line outside waiting to get in because of social distancing so it was a place where I felt comfortable and safe. I was very excited to see their food truck at Mulligan's Island a few weeks ago. I ordered the Italian and a kid's meatball parm. The Italian was perfect and was made with just the right amount of pepper rings to accompany the traditional Italian cold cuts. My picky eater gave a big thumbs up for the meatball as well.
