This place use to be awesome. It has decline in the last couple years. I really used to enjoy the primavera. The last couple times including tonight. It lacked the proper amount of garlic cream sauce. The vegetables and pasta noodles were bland. Tasted like the pasta water wasn't salted or seasoned after. The food here is quite good. The caesar salad and garlic bread starters are good and fresh. I had the pollo toscano. The chicken was breaded and fried, but not greasy and tough. The linguine and sauce were well balanced and had a very good flavor with nothing overpowering or over salted. I had the large plate and it was a bit too much for me. Should have gone with the small. The service was very good and the prices about average. My first time ever going, my boyfriend suggested it as he had been there before several years ago. So myself, him and our daughter go about an hour ago. There was an older lady that held the door open for her other older friends, then RUDELY shut the door in the face of my boyfriend who was holding our daughter. We are an interracial couple (NOT that it should matter) and I found that to be extremely rude! Fast forward to us walking in and standing there for a solid 3 minutes at least before someone greeted us, we tell her party of two and was told she had to clean a table for us. She walks off and leaves us standing there, meanwhile she's walking all in the back doing her own thing. Totally unprofessional and a racist environment in my opinion. My wife and I visited Cafe Amici tonight and she ordered and enjoyed her entree choice. I, on the other hand, found my entree, Pescatore al Cartoccio, to be less than appetizing and about $5.00 more than listed on their website. The oil served with the buttered, toasted bread (very good) had rather bitter overtones that I have never before experienced in an Italian restaurant. For my salad, I ordered a regular side salad with the house dressing. The lettuce was not crisp and it was not cut or torn into appropriately sized pieces and had to be cut at the table - and it was lettuce greens with nothing else except one piece of tomato. The dressing was good, but it did not taste like it was freshly made by the restaurant.I I asked the waitress if the entree came with pasta and was advised that pasta is now considered a side with most all of their entrees - something else I have never experienced in an Italian restaurant. I also asked if the pasta was sauteed with butter and garlic or if it was just cooked in water and put on a plate and was told it was cooked al dente. That was not what I asked, so I again posed my question and was then told the pasta is sauteed in the sauce of the entree ordered. That was not true! The pasta was just cooked in water, put on the bottom of the parchment paper in which the entree was cooked, and then had the minute amounts of seafood the Pescatore al Cartoccio was supposed to contain put over the pasta followed by a small amount of Fra Diavolo sauce. There were six mussels which were extremely mushy rather than chewy the way they should have been, 2 shrimp that were not jumbo and were rather mushy verses being juicy and tender without any stringy chewiness. My opinion is that the shrimp were undercooked, as were the two small scallops that were rather watery and very soft rather than having some chewiness one would normally expect. When you check the restaurant's website it plainly states that the ingredients of the dish are tossed together, they aren't and the entree does not automatically come with your choice of pasta as indicated on the website. I haven't been here since 2003 and Cafe Amici did not fail to impress. By far the best Italian cuisine I have had since we lived in Italy. Great service, fair priced and very comfortable atmosphere. We'll be coming back for sure. I highly recommend this cafe to anyone in the area. read more

How does this place have an average of 4 Stars? It's not terrible or disgusting, but it is so drab, glum, and bland that I can't imagine why you would choose this place. The service was slightly below average (server failed to pay attention to requests, was a little awkward, and just overall odd). My wife and I had cheese tortellini with bolognese sauce and it was so bad I didn't even finish or ask for a box. That has happened maybe 3 times in my life - I either finish or save enough for later. This time I had no desire to even finish my meal and waste the calories. Server saw and didnt bother to ask about how the meal was since it was obvious we were not happy. This is going to sound smug, but I feel it's an appropriate way to frame it: My wife and I returned to the States after spending 10 days in several Italian cities. My wife and I LOVE this place. I've been a couple times before but this last visit made me stop to write a review. Both our meals were exceptionally good (although it took 30 min for our to go order was ready). My meal lasted for both dinner and lunch the next day and my wife had 3 meals with how large her portions were. I'm not giving this place 5 stars for the portions as I believe you're paying a good amount of money so I expected those portions, I was rather more impressed with the flavor. I usually don't like to go out for Italian as I've had few places stand out as being something worth spending the money one but Caffe Amici did not disappoint and I cannot wait to go back. I read Yelp reviews and it was positive so I tried this place yeaterday. Nice staff but sadly I was not impressed with their fettuccine alfredo with chicken. The sauce was watery and not much of a sauce nor was it cheesey at all. The chicken was tender but not sure what it was marinated in or seasoned in but tasted like citrus. The garlic bread was probably better than the meal itself. I was disappointed because for $18 it wasnt worth but maybe $4.00. I also over heard a couple at the next table talk to each other and the one person said " I have never seen jalapenos in Italian food." That shouldve been a clue my dish was going to be questionable. Ive been to Italy so I know great Italian, I didnt expect to compare it but this dish was not even comparable to The Olive Garden. I should have just went there. This resturant has the typical Italian dishes but lacks the Italian tastes. I had the spaghetti Bolanaise. Plenty of ground beef but it looks like the kitchen favors Greek spices. The dish lacked the sauce that typically comes with this dish and it was very dry and It was flavored with oregano... sorry not flavored with oregano but drowning in oregano! We had the calimarie as the appetizer. This dish was well presented with an outstanding horseradish sauce. This also had some oregano in it but it was not overwhelming. If you like Greek dining, come to Amicis. On the other hand, bypass this resturant when you crave Italian. Another flaw was the service. It was very slow. We spent more time waiting for the waitress on taking our order, refilling our drinks and waiting to be checked out then the time we have eating our dinner. Not good folks! read more

Best Food In Town ! ! ! Lived in Fort Benning for 6 years and enjoyed dining at Caffee Amici each week, maybe a special, maybe off the menu or maybe a dish I put together. Some of our favorites are the Seafood Fra Diavlo with crab legs , chicken marsala, the hand cut rib eye steaks, of course the fabulous risotto and choice of pasta with choice of sauce as well as the delicious desserts. Their sauce tastes like it comes from a can and it's not embellished with anything special, almost ketchup like marinara. In Columbus for business and decided to try this place. I was seated quickly as I was only the 3rd table to arrive. I ordered and then sat and waited for a LONG time as other tables were sat and receiving their food. Finally I asked the server if I could at least get my salad - he lied and told me the kitchen screwed up and then a few minutes later came to the table to ask me what salad I ordered. Seems like maybe he didn't write it down. The main dish (lasagna) was so salty that it was inedible. My co-workers dish however was decent - so we shared his. At the end of the meal after a 30+ minute wait for my salad, nasty/salty lasagna, not coming back to check on us, he rudely offered me a $5 credit and told me because I took a couple of bites of the lasagna- I should pay for it. I've always loved their food but I said in my last review I just wish they had a more romantic ambience; however, after this last time I am compelled to change my rating to 5 stars. I had family come in for my graduation and I called to make reservations which ended up being 30 minutes before they closed. They were so nice and friendly even though they ended up having to stay late. I didn't realize I would be that late (graduation ran long) but anyways, I just really appreciate the top notch service. Me and my wife ordered dishes that we've gotten before that have been delicious to us before at other restaurants. We ordered the calamari and it came out burnt to a crisp and rubbery.We were also given side salads with house dressing and the dressing tasted like industrial glue. I ordered the Francese Veal Pasta and it was tough as a two dollar steak. My wife ordered the Chicken Parmesan and she says it was very delicious, but the noodles were under-seasoned and subpar. The waitress-was very good, just left us as soon as another party came in and she knew them. This was our first date out in a while and this place disappointed us.
