This place is alright, but not stellar. I really wanted some spaghetti ragu in Italy and it would be nice in Verona, but it was lackluster. The ragu sauce was not very hearty and appetizing. I ate the whole dish and it was a snack. I had a lemon granita thingy and it was just lemon juice with ice. My dad had a banana smoothie and it tasted alright, but I said I could make that. The view of the Arena is good and the seating outside is nice. They have wifi and let us sit there for a while to pass time before meeting with tour group. It got much busier around 12:30 to 1pm. I have had better spaghetti meat sauce dishes in SF. And I can make it myself, but thanks for a nice leisurely experience in Verona, Italy.

Beautiful view of the Arena di Verona. Otherwise a standard Italian / Veronese tourist trap. You're in Italy, so the food is obviously good, but if you are not specifically in need of the view, you can most likely do better. The service was slow on a lazy day in early April. Food selection wasn't particularly extensive nor inspired. Taste was OK. Desserts were definitely sub-par. I can get better tiramusú, well, anywhere. Dessert was over-sugared and tasted like mushy cardboard.

I've eaten a lot of delicious meals in Italy, as is easy to do. But I was blown away by this…read morerestaurant, just off the beaten path in Verona. One of the best meals I've ever had in Italy - including the food itself and the professional and warm, friendly service. We arrived to town by train, a bit late for lunch. Nevertheless, they offered to serve us. We ate outside on a quiet side street off of the main square. We started with the Mozzarella di bufala in crosta di pane con pomodorini al basilico e peperoni which was excellent. The mozzarella was slightly warm and contrasted nicely with the cool tomatoes. Next was the pasta - Maccheroncini with fiori di zucchine and pancetta crocante. This too was a beautiful blend of smooth, creamy flavors and textures and salty, crunchy ones. We finished with the mixed grilled meats as a secondo. This was a perfect compromise since we could not agree on any one meat dish. I really can't be sure what all the different meats were, but the ones I sampled were all delicious - this is clearly a specialty of theirs. Our final coffees (espresso) arrived with house made cookies on the side. A quick note, the portions were large. In order to sample more items, my husband and I shared one order each of the appetizer, first course and second course. I'm sure I couldn't have eaten ever two courses alone given the generous portion size. The servers were very professional and attentive. They were there when you needed them and did not hover. I will also add that we were traveling with a one year old so meals out can be a challenge. The servers were over-the-top warm and interacted with our son making us feel welcome and at ease. We will definitely return to this lovely restaurant, highly recommend!

Our food tour stopped in here where we enjoyed some delicious primi platti (first course) meals…read more The interior is a beautiful restaurant with lots of light and exposed stone walls. It was quiet when we arrived at noon and then filled up quite a lot by the time we departed. Clearly, a restaurant for the locals. First course, a big pile of a pasta called "bigolini" which I've not seen before. It is like thick spaghetti with a rough surface. That is needed because the sauce on it was quite thick and another interesting taste - nettles. Definitely different. Second course, risotto made with a red wine reduction. Very flavorful and rich and the pasta was perfectly al dente. We'll definitely need to return to here for dinner! [Review 16980 overall - 185 in Italy - 496 of 2022.]

The restaurant is very cute (free WiFi) and homey feeling with an exposed brick interior and interesting decoration choices throughout the space. If you're so inclined there's also and outdoor patio area. Maybe we just ordered poor menu items but the food was underwhelming and not particularly standout. For our anti pasta course we went with the cured meat trio with polenta. The meats weren't particularly good and combined with the bland polenta it just wasn't a good combo. For our primi pasta course we had the bigoli in a horse (yes horse) bolognese sauce. Of our three dishes this was the best. For our main meat course with did horse cheeks braised in an Amarone wine sauce with polenta. I didn't like the polenta any better on our second dish and the cheek just didn't do it for me. I ended up leaving the bulk of the dish uneaten. All in all-maybe I just ordered poorly but I if I ever make it back to Verona this spot will be a pass for me.

This was the most amazing meal we ate in three weeks in Italy -- and we ate loads of great food…read more L'Evangelista is a vey upscale restaurant on a quiet street a block off the main pedestrian thoroughfare. While it follows the form of apertivo, primi, segundi, dolci, this is not traditional Italian cuisine but what I've seen termed as "Italian contemporary cuisine." That means world class, innovative food. And we loved it. Simone Ferrigno, the manager, greeted us when we arrived and seated us at an elegantly laid out table. We ordered wine and our food, and the show began with beautiful dish after beautiful dish. And fabulous wines. We chatted with the German couple at the next table who had ordered the vegan tasting menu and they were in heaven. Alas I cannot for the life of me find the receipt with the names of the dishes we ordered. If I find it, I'll update my review. I'll just say this, exquisite food, world-class service in a beautiful ambience. After we had paid our bill (thank goodness the dollar is up relative to the Euro) and we started walking away, Simone ran after us to ask how our experience was and to thank us for our patronage. Note: A reservation is essential at L'Evangelista. I just noticed that Yelp has two Euro symbols to indicate the price is moderate. I'd actually give it four Euro symbols. L'Evangelista is not for you if you're on a tight a budget.

However, we experienced a couple of disappointments. My husband and I had the zucchini blossoms stuffed with ricotta and a local cheese to start. They were quite greasy and TBH, I make better ones at home. For my main, I had another special, the pappardelle with fresh mushrooms. It was Fairly good. My husband had some stuffed crepes that looked a lot like blintzes. He loved them. The hostess who served us, the waitress, and the waiter who served us drinks were all attentive and professional. However, the waiter who brought us our dishes was not. He was brusque and after we had just ordered a cappuccino, we sneezed on his hands without wearing a mask (he was the only worker in the restaurant not wearing one) and didn't wash them. We canceled the cappuccino and he seemed surprised. We tried to explain why to the hostess and she didn't want to hear it. A very mixed experience.
