We didn't eat at L'Orologio but stopped for a glass of wine before we headed to dinner at a place further away from the Colosseum. The dining room was filled with people eating quickly so they could head down the street to the opera. We sat on the two chairs on the sidewalk in front of the window. We slowly drank a glass each of Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva whole we watched the well dressed Veronese head to the opera. Great people watching and great wine -- the best we drank in Italy. If we had had another night in Verona we would have returned for dinner. BTW L'Orologio means "the clock." The restaurant is located by the clock in the city walls, hence the name. Did I mention how wonderful the Amarone is? Deep, rich, complex red wine from Veneto. read more

Had a fun supper here when in Italy. A bit confusing-- we walked by and asked if we needed reservations and were told yes. We made one for an hour later (when they would be open as they were not yet), but there was certainly no crowd. To be fair, we eat earlier than most Europeans, so it might have been that. Really decent spot, just south of the arena in Verona that was just what we needed on a Saturday afternoon when most other restaurants were closed. Had a meat and burrata plate - awesome - and also a couple of pasta dishes which were mostly good. Lasagne was rich and creamy. So awesome. But the other pasta dish had a pretty oily sauce, a bit disappointing. Great overall spot, good location and thanks for being open!! read more

This restaurant is in 2 locations, slightly apart from one another. One is for indoor dining and the other is for eating outside. They provide Wi-Fi but it won't reach the area for outside dining. No big deal. It is close to the Amphitheatre but not too close where all the "tourist traps" are. I had a very good meal here along with the local white wine (Soave). I had the tagliatelle with calamari and shrimp. It was excellent The service was good and prompt. As with most restaurants in Italy, go early if you don't have a reservation as tables tend to fill up quickly. I think I went at 6:30 or 7:00 pm which is early by Italian standards so was able to get a table without a reservation. read more

I found this place from yelp. When I arrived, it was pretty empty and I questioned my decision lol I ordered bruschetta, octopus and Venetian style liver. Bruschetta was good but not very different from other places. Octopus was very fresh and it was so delicious with potato salad. But the signature was Venetian style liver. Liver was so soft and juicy. Parsley and sautéed onion was killing all liver smell. It was so so delicious. I also paired this courses with valpolicella per servers recommendation. Amazing food and wine! Stopped here after seeing the sites on our trip through Italy, and had an amazing dinner. It is more of a wine bar, but they have a delicious menu for dinner as well. We started with the bruschetta, and then got the Rocket Salad (for me) and the Tagliatelle Ragu (my friend) and we both loved our meals! When a menu states that the spaghetti they offer is with "pomodoro fresco e basilico," one would expect fresh cherry tomatoes and basil. In fact, that was the English translation on the menu. What we got, however, looked and tasted like canned chunky tomato sauce and pesto that looked like it was squeezed out of a tube. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars instead of one is because of the friendly staff. If it weren't for our long journey and first evening in Verona, we would've taken more time selecting a place to dine and likely chosen a different place. read more

Who knew that the English translation of L'Orologio di Corso Porta Nuova means The Clock of Corso Porta Nuova? Thank you Google Translate because I don't speak Italian. We found L'Orologio through Google Maps since we were close by and our original dinner plans fell through the cracks. L'Orologio is right before the main street of all the action in Verona. It is amazing that this restaurant stays calm, untouristy, and untouched by outside influence. I highly recommend a meal here if you have the patience to wait a long time to order, wait to get your food, and wait a long time to get your check. We ended up being the last ones in the restaurant because we kept waiting. Such is life in Italy. Throw out the New York mentality. We started with the Ricottina Verdure grigliate e ricottina (Mixed grilled vegetables and buffalo ricotta cheese) and Pulpo e Patate Olio. The vegetables were full of flavor and the cheese added a bit of creaminess to the bite. The octopus was cold and tender. I would have preferred it to be a hot dish but it was just as likeable with the help of olive oil, tomatoes, parsley, and olives. For our main courses, we got Parmigiana di melanzane (Eggplant parmiginana) and a meat filled Tortelli in a butter and sage sauce. The eggplant parmigiana was more like an eggplant lasagna since it was made of stacked layers of eggplant and the tortelli was firm. Both were delicious. I wish the servings were a little bigger. They were that good! L'Orologio was a great way to end our day trip in Verona. Highly recommend! Whatever you do, just don't watch the clock. read more

Lovely restaurant with great service. I'm always a little unsure about going to a restaurant alone as a female solo traveler as some restaurant staff can be rude and disdainful like you're taking up a table that would otherwise have two diners. But the waiter was very warm from the start, recommending a good Valpolicella Ripasso, and made me feel very comfortable dining alone. The head lady there, perhaps the owner, wouldn't give me the time of day, but I ordered more than I usually would (lasagna, a side of verdure, wine, and dessert) because the waiter was so welcoming. The chocolate mousse I ordered was almost too rich, more like a fondant, but I still ate the whole thing. Very reasonably priced and just the nicest atmosphere. We are on holidays from Australia. We speak poor Italian (only the pleasantries - Grazie) and loved every moment of our experience at L'Orologio. The staff made us feel so welcome! Friendly and smiley, the staff were so lovely from the moment we walked in. The menu is generous with a wide selection of Italian cuisine on offer. To make it easier for ourselves we went for the Seafood Set Menu for two. Octopus, Seafood risotto, Sea Bass and Chocolate pear cake for dessert. All the dishes were delightful. Light, full of flavour and perfectly Italian. The seafood risotto was my favourite dish. A dish I would never order at home which is what holidays are all about. Trying new flavours and exploring different cultures. We asked our friendly waiter for a wine recommendation. He recommended a couple of different whites and we went for a bottle of a local white wine. It was the perfect accompaniment to our meal. We are already planning our next meal here - definitely a sign of a perfect score. 5 stars for this local Italian restaurant in Verona! read more

Great service, such decent prices, beautiful restaurant. We came around 2 or 3pm and for 3 orders of food, 3 glasses of wine and a dessert our bill only came to 59,50 euros. (They apparently gave us a discount and didn't even tell us until we actually prompted them since we thought they made a mistake). I had a minestrone soup which was pretty good, and my Dad got the margarita pizza which I never order myself but found absolutely, ridiculously delicious. Good food and close to the main Piazza Bra (short walking distance) but not directly in so you get to see what locals come in and order and be away from the crowds a bit. read more

Excellent food, a good wine list and generally excellent service, marred slightly by the matriarch of the restaurant. The younger men were charming, welcoming and hospitable, spoke fluent English, and were helpful as they could be, whereas she was officious & terse bordering on rude, spoke only Italian (to us, at least) and seemed to resent our presence. The young men wisely kept out of her way, but let us know with subtle facial expressions and comments that they sympathized. We finished our excellent meal then left as soon as possible, which was a shame as we would otherwise liked to have lingered and tried one of their liqueurs. read more

My husband and I stayed a ways away from the center of the city and on the way back to our hotel found this little gem. A sweet lady greeted us and explained the menu. My husband ordered the seafood rissoto and I ordered the tagliatele with ragu. Both were delicious and flavorful. My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel Trieste, which is down the street from L'Orologio, and asked the hostess for a restaurant recommendation for lunch when we first arrived and she recommended L'Orologio. We usually have all of our restaurant pics planned out in advance, but we were tired and our room wasn't ready so we wanted to eat near the hotel. We were really glad that we asked for the recommendation because L'Orologio was perfect! Our estimation of the hotel staff of Hotel Trieste (which was a great place to stay) went up a notch as a result. The restaurant is very centrally located, and small but airy during the day, with windows that open on to the street. (There seemed to be a downstairs seating area but we didn't see it so I can't comment on what that was like.) We each had a pasta. Unfortunately I'm writing this review a few months late, so I can't remember exactly what they were, but both were excellent. We also shared a Cassatta Siciliana for dessert, which was really great. read more
